Seeing everyone is trying to convince us, like we don't know what we are doing, I offer:

1. FS98 loads super fast. No more waiting around for the program to load!

2. Takes full advantage of modern hardware!! Just watch those CPU and GPU loads stay nice and low!

3. No need to repay for add-ons and plenty of freeware out there!

4. No more OOMs---ever!!

5. Crystal clear graphics, no more blurries, supports multiple screens!

6. Load up a ton of AI. Your hardware can sure handle it!!!!

7. No activation needed!

8. Updates will not break anything!!

9. And anything else I missed!!!

I love your humor Jim. I hope you never quit Avsim.

Btw, your students must love your class. It wouldn't surprise me if you were one of the most popular teachers at your school.

Today is the last day of the report card marking and the last day before vacation. It's a double favorite day of ours!!

I have to agree... FS98 was one of my favorite releases... all of the improvements from FS95 without the performance penalties... and the shadows on the 2D panels created by the light bouncing off the face of my CRT were exquisite!

Great also if you miss Meigs Field.  But the flight instructor in FS98 (pre- Rod Machado) was a tad gruff!

Rich

I couldn't agree more. I still have FS2004 installed. There is nothing like flying the Kai Tak IGS in the PMDG 747 with Fly Tampa Kai Tak scenery. But...I can barely maintain 200 FPS (true statement). Any suggestions as to what I can do to increase my FPS?

LOL, great post Jim.

Go to FS2002. When FS2004 first came out there was an outcry from many about the low frame rates compared to their FS2002 installation. Sort of like when FSX first came out and people complained about the low frame rates compared to their FS2004 installation.

Using FS98, in this instance, was probably a wise decision. Even people with older laptops should be good to go with FS98. Jim, of course, might just be sick of all these "my sims better than your sim" threads that have proliferated as of late.

Look, if FS98 isn't going to 64 bit, I'm not touching it. I had to do that because it seems every thread, no matter what the OP asked, devolves into an argument over 32 bit or 64.

FS98 didn't have AI. But it surely did have VCs. Loved the 3D experience (hated the performance penalty though).

The best MSFS ever was 2002 though. So many novelties!

It will be in a few years and when it does it will bring world peace, an end to hunger, deforestation of the rainforests will cease, and global warming will come to an end. Just like a certain other 64 bit program has done.

But please beware that you will need to purchase all FS98 add-on again, if and when, your commercial vendors decide to rewrite their programs.

Yep, get out that old 3.5 inch floppy drive and re-install FS95. Be sure to include in your installation the Mallard SFO and NY areas.

I understand there is a Steam version of FS98 coming out soon.  Should really knock your socks off.  Also rumors of a P3D version -4.0.

3.5 inch? Heck, I remember when we were using 5.25 floppies. And they really were floppies!

I still remember when my parents bought me FS98... I couldn't stay away from the computer.

I still use Windows 95 Jim. With that, do you think I should upgrade to FS98 or do you think I'd be better off using my current setup of FS95
