To FSX Users on the Fence................FS98

Good post, Jim.   It is annoying when people randomly tell the whole community which sim they should be using.

I only fly heavy jets. The sub logic 767, 747 and A319 are must haves. (I'll never understand you shorts 360 guys). Will I have to re buy these for FS98? Also I'm thinking of getting WinME. I hear it's really good.

Yeah, WIN 98 is dead. WinME is the future.

Based on the advice here I just installed FS98 (true statement). But I have no idea how it's working. Everything is smooth but I don't know what the frame rate is. All I see in the frame rate counter of a bunch of question marks and asterisks.

Don’t be alarmed, those are just censored expletives, a sign that FS98 is flabbergasted by the FPS you are getting. Please refer to the definitions below for FS98 FPS Meter nomenclature.

?!?!, those are good framerates” = high framerate,  200-300% of monitor’s actual refresh rate, above the threshold for owls to differentiate from reality

Holy !?!?!?!? !?!?” = ‘uber’ higher framerate, theoretically capable of causing seizure in most humans

!?!?!?!? !?!?!?!? !?!?!?!?” =  The event horizon of FPS experiences. FPS are so high, each frame exceeds the speed at which neurons can fire, even possibly exceeding the speed of light according to unproven theoretical physics, and thereby incapable of ever being revealed in the physical dimension of time and space. Also known as "Dark FPS".

Even though there are thousands of files that are exactly the same between what you are using and FS98 they are two very different sims. The sub logic planes are for training purposes and FS98 planes are for entertainment purposes only. If you need a second opinion just ask Obi-Wan Kenobi. He has two versions of FS4 installed and one copy of FS95 that he never uses. However, he is a leading expert on the sub logic program.

So with that being said yes you will need to repurchase those planes.

WinME is the future.

But please make sure you get the 64 Bit version of ME because you'll want to be ready for the 64 bit version of FS98. Doing so will TRIPLE your performance (watched another YT video) so get ready for that!!

No, no, no, Ethan you have it wrong!!

Didn't you know that the human eye can't differentiate anything over 24 FPS?? This is because film is recorded at that rate and the human eyesight has evolved so quickly that we can't tell the difference. I think everything changed when that guy on A Clockwork Orange had his eyes forced open.

global warming will come to an end.

I hate to pop your bubble, but we had global warming in cycles long before humans.

Anyone else notice the lack of XP10, FSX:SE and P3D users expounding the virtues of their sim compared to the mighty FS98? Long live FS98!

Ice Ages too, but 64 bit FS98 is going to end all of that. I read it somewhere on the Internet on Wednesday. No, I remember now: it was in the Planet of the Apes movie near the end.

OMGosh Mike you are right! Now maybe, just maybe I can take Ric's statement about global warming and relate it to your observation:

Wait for it!

Wait for it!!

Wait for it!!!

I GOT it!!!! Those other threads are just a bunch of hot.............................................................

Too true, in too many different ways, unfortunately.

Seeing everyone is trying to convince us, like we don't know what we are doing, I offer:

1. FS98 loads super fast. No more waiting around for the program to load!

2. Takes full advantage of modern hardware!! Just watch those CPU and GPU loads stay nice and low!

4. No more OOMs---ever!!

With all due respect Jim, but I don't think this is your honest opinion.

Now, with the patch for Active Sky 1995, I will stick with FS95 Steam Edition :P .

I do have FS98 installed on my PC, unfortunately it really doesn't like Windows 7. I tried to import the magnificent scenery of FS98 to FSX, if I remember right it resulted in beautiful variation of strange shapes.

I wish there was a way to mix these simulators. Once I accidentally managed to install FS9 on top of FSX, when I launched FSX I got FS2004 loading screen. Unfortunately then it crashed, otherwise I would have enjoyed FSX with FS2004 performance.

:LMAO:

I have not LOL this much since my last Chris Rock concert.

This thread is exactly the kind of garbage this forum doesn't need.
