May 4, 201511 yr Im sure most know about it but for the newbies the best way to control LOD and Autogen etc is the fantastic Sim starter http://aviation.pero-online.de/ Allows you 9 different profiles. eg when in GA ORBX I use LOD 7.5 but when PMDG ORBX its LOD 4.5 ZORAN
May 4, 201511 yr Moderator If one bothers to READ NIck's bible or has been around Nick as ong as I, you will see that he always says that it is GUIDE - a SARTING point. The OS setup is firm but for FSX, they are starting points. Rick - I have no problem with someone not liking NIck - as Fr Bill said - sometimes he has an abrasive personality - but stating that he knows nothing more than any other simmer just is NOT true. He has a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, he has headed up a group for NASA, he's worked with Aces on FSX, worked with NVidia on drivers, worked with ASUS on developing BIOS for mobo's, etc. so he sure as heck DOES know what he is talking about. Jerome - I agree Nick dislikes ORBX products - for various reasons - BUT I have set up every system according to his guide using both FSX and P3D and using both ORBX and GEX and have had NO ISSUES - not stutters not anything. As I said, his GUIDE is just that - a GUIDE - it is a starting point not cast in stone settings. Some people will be abe to run exactly as he describes, others will have to adjust, but follow the basics and you are good to go. For you to diss the guide because it doesn't work if you use it wrong isn't truthful. To say that yo9u couldn't get it to work is more like it. That's your opinion, your experience and you are entitled to it. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
May 4, 201511 yr Just did Nick's tips -- amazing stuff, 60 FPS frames, and SMOOTHNESS is the key. Thank you! Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering

Excuse me? Have I said anything 'but stating that he knows nothing more than any other simmer just is NOT true'. like that anywhere in my posts, considering that I've stated I do use his Guides? zoran, thanks for that link. May 4, 201511 yr zoran, thanks for that link. No probs. In time you will find it to be the most important ad on you have and its free (donationware) ZORAN

May 4, 201511 yr Nick's P3D guide with Autogen set to Normal rather than OOM Bait settings and locking frames at 33 with Triple Buffering On and V-Sync on have yielded incredibly smooth stutter free flights up to 3 hours so far with heavy Maxed out weather coming from Active Sky NEXT on my system while running the PMDG 737NGX. Thanks Nick. My sim finally looks and feels how I've been trying to get it to look for over a year now since I started this expensive hobby in the FSX platform. May 4, 201511 yr What is a sarting point?, Mr nick has had to start singing the praises of P3d! does he not produce a scenery add on, and aircraft add ons which he would like now to sell into the P3d market ,which would be difficult for him to sell if he did not endorse the product, what amazes me is how P3d goes from being the devil,s spawn to becoming the saviour of flight simming ,and that flight1can,t wait to shoehorn all there products into,I suppose the 6yr old mustang will be released next for P3d,if you beg them for long enough, there nothing like money to bring people to their senses or make them throw away their principle,s ,it,s, a pity they corrupted their own mustang to stop its use in P3d a couple of yrs ago it left a bad taste in peoples mouth ,most likely why Mr N doesn,t do Good old Avsim Peter
May 4, 201511 yr Nick Needham certainly is one of the "personalities" of the FS community. Whilst I'm not qualified to comment on the veracity of the information in his "bible", I will say I don't like the manner in which he takes many swipes at Orbx (perhaps because they produce a competing commercial product to his own?), he takes a swipe at Bojote, he takes a swipe at a great swathe of developers, and generally has a very scathing attitutude towards the rest of the community. Given Nick Needham is elevated by some members of the community onto a pedestal reserved for the technical guru, I would hope he had the decorum to publish his "bible" without such unpleasantness towards other parts of the community. What's more, does anybody remember the very interesting thread on the Estonia Migration Tool support forum last year? The one where a user reported EMT had wrecked their P3D2 install when they had used EMT to install GEX? Nick
May 4, 201511 yr I was going to try the settings of Nick, then I saw the ugly images he posted and I remained with my excellent settings.

May 4, 201511 yr I was going to try the settings of Nick, then I saw the ugly images he posted and I remained with my excellent settings. Thats a mystery, my P3D with the settings Nick posted looks beautiful. In addition I've gained tremendous 'smoothness' (60 FPS) -- its like a new sim. Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
May 4, 201511 yr I would hope he had the decorum to publish his "bible" without such unpleasantness towards other parts of the community. Not a hope, his ego won't let him. His scenery is a slight (I did own GEX USA ) improvment over default, but compared to FTX its a world away and he knows it, hence the bitterness. I'll stick to my BS scenery and the settings that make it run so well.

I merely stated that his P3D recommendations will very likely result in an OOM with any complex scenery add-on, such as those available from Orbx, that's a hard fact and has nothing to do with truthfulness. I haven't ever had a need to follow his "Bible", I've been building my own systems for over 20 years, I'm not new to this. Your comment about me "not getting it to work" is not relevant in any way. Everyone runs their sim with their own unique hardware combination, it would be naïve to think that one setting fits all and works for everybody. Personally I question the use of the word "Bible", as it infers a certain superiority. Reading through his "Bible" one does get the impression that it was intended to be a guide as much as a virtual soapbox to have a go at Orbx and any other "IGNORANT DEVELOPER" that fits that description of his.
