Orbx/DTG joint press release tomorrow!

"Hello folks, allow me to clarify the press release further. We have no plans at this stage to port 100+ products across to FSX:SE as DLC sold by DTG.

We have entered into an agreement to create two brand new airport sceneries which will be designed for FSX:SE default and exclusive to DTG for 90 days. Those projects are under way and DTG will publicise them when they reach beta stage. We're also providing the Lancair IVP. These sceneries are designed for default ground terrain and won't have Objectflow support and will use default FSX vegetation and autogen (although we may provide an optional Orbx tree set).

During the 90-day exclusive period these two airports will be further enhanced to match their respective regions (whether that is an FTX region or FTX Global), and have Objectflow added. Finally they will be specifically tailored to P3Dv2.x and released as triple-installers.

So essentially we release these new titles as Steam DLC via DTG early in the development cycle before the triple-installer work commences.

Meantime, existing FSX:SE users are welcome to install any of Orbx's 100+ products provided they don't also have the old FSX Boxed Edition on their PCs.

I hope this is now clear for everyone smile.png"

In retail there is something called a lost loser.

You're thinking of people who don't pay retail and pirate products, they're the lost losers. Although I've heard the heads of some 3rd party developers being referred to as the same, lol.

Thank you Propsfan

So yeah, nothing we are gonna be interested about in that Orbx stuff, but hopefully new players will.

Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."

So we can buy the fully implemented versions of the SE stuff 90 days after it releases for the Steam users. In that time they will "finish up" the releases for P3D/FSX boxed. Looks like a good plan to me.

Well thanks. I didn't mean any harm. I thought it was funny that Poppet asked 'what do you think Jim' and Jim Skorna came back with his down to earth response - which I agreed with.

Ah myself and Jim go back years,  the end of 2014 i think,  Jim has an uncanny ability (superhuman) of not getting wound up

As far as senior is concerned - I am not sure whether that means age or member status

I think it means old.  You know your getting old when your grand-kids are calling you Spiderman

"We call our grandad "Spiderman".

He hasn't got any super powers - he just finds it difficult to get out of the bath"

Guys and gal,

Lets stay on topic here or this too will get locked.

No, you will be able to buy the watered down version for SE and then in 90 days the full version will be released for MS FSX/P3D.

Yes, that is exactly what I said! The Steam versions will be followed in 90 days by the FSX/P3D versions.

Hopefully, the ORBX DLC will cost less than the Full version, because it lacks of custom textures, Objectflow, etc... It will be interesting if they give you a discount if you bought the DLC version of the addon.

Cheers :)

Good to see DTG actively embracing 3rd party devs. Hopefully this practice will continue with their own sim.

i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea

That is sure a key point moving forward.

Orbx business practices does not surprise me they done this. They are talented bunch of developers and artist but thier CEO is arrogant jerk. Steam only for first 90 days for thier future products not a nice way to treat old time users.

Well they explained that in their forum. They are releasing a much watered down version for Steam users. In other words they will release to Steam in the earlier stages of development and then continue to develop for their FSX/P3D users.I don't really see that as being a bad thing, or against their 'old time' users..FSX/P3D users get a much enhanced product that we all know and love.It is not as if they release a product to Steam and then make people on FSX/P3D wait for theirs..it is almost like two different products.

Time will tell how that all works out.

The 3rd party developer world is in a state of chaos, considering that they have to cope with three different sims, FSX, FSX/SE and P3d. No one knows how this will all shake out, especially with DTG also making noise about its "new flight sim". I don't think that JV is an "arrogant jerk". He's just caught in a major transition period for his business. Will P3d 3.0 be 64 bit? Will that product and DTG's new product provide backwards compatibility of any sort? And when will the next hot fix of a sim break everything again? With FSX, we just sat around breaking things ourselves with worthless tweaking. Now LM and DTG break things for us, free of charge.

There is no "Microsoft" in the room  any more to stabilize the flight sim industry and the instability will probably kill off companies that have been supplying goods to this community for many years.
