Apologies if this question has been asked a lot before, but I've searched everywhere and tried everything and I'm still getting blurry ground textures on FSX. 

 

I'm running an i5 4670k, 8GB RAM, GTX 760 and I have FSX installed on its own hard drive. 

 

I've tried quite a few fsx.cfg tweaks (set LOD RADIUS to 6.5, AffinityMask=14...), I'm using Nvidia Inspector and have tried changing settings there, but none of this seems to be having much of an effect. I have all sliders at max, frames locked at 30, and this doesn't seem to cause any problems as I get smooth performance, but the only problem is that ground textures look bad. 

 

I tried deleting my fsx.cfg to get rid of all previous tweaks and slowly started building them in again to see if that would help, but I'm still getting blurry textures! Does anyone have any advice, I'm running out of ideas?!

I tried deleting my fsx.cfg to get rid of all previous tweaks and slowly started building them in again to see if that would help, but I'm still getting blurry textures!

As a test, since it's easy to change, under [Graphics] set:

 

TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024  (Set this to 2048) and see if any difference is made.  It may improve, or not!

remove FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION from your config. You have a decent CPU/GPU so there's really not much benefit in having a lower FFTF set.

Sure, you may gain 1 or 2 FPS but your terrain textures will suffer...as you know

I noticed to tthins in you FSX.cfg.

 

One and I don't know if it will make any ddifference with blurry textures, but you have your color set to 16 bit when it should be 32 bit.

 

Mode=1920x1080x16 <- should be 32 bit

 

You also have your FFTF set to .20. The defualt value is .33. While using a value lower than .33 is supposed to improve FPS, it can also cause the ground textures to have a harder time keeping up resulting in more blurries.

 

FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.2 <- Try .33 which is default.

 

It also looks like you have a bunch of Bojote tweaks in the cfg, many of which are not really needed with today's hardware. If I were you, I would save a copy of this cfg, then delete it and let FSX build a new one. Try using minimal tweaks except to add Highmemfix and see how you make out. Make sure to set your monitor resolution on Windows to 32 bit and also in FSX.

There are 2 entries for TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD in the config. There is one near the bottom with a value of 12, Should this be there?

Sorry to say, but this FSX.cfg either looks like tuned by the Bojote tool (which is basically outdated (from 2010)) or by someone who actually has no clue what he is doing. Some points (some are already mentioned):

As mentioned, this is another critical entry regarding blurries. To be honest, I would only increase this value if your FSX works completely flawless with the default value of 4.5... If this is true, increase it first to 5.5, then to 6.5 and see, how things change. I guess, 6.5 is a little bit an overkill for your setup...

VERDICT: what I see here instantly is, that this is another example of a "FSX.cfg tweaked to death". It is a matter of fact, that every single build needs its "personal" FSX.cfg tweaking, it is simply NOT possible, that all tweaks read somewhere can be copied into your own FSX.cfg and work flawlessly. I am also absolutely not a fan of tools like the one from Bojote, as you actually DO NOT KNOW what the tool is doing to your FSX.cfg.

 

ADVICE: save this FSX.cfg somewhere as a backup and delete the one FSX is using now, let FSX build a new one. Then, you set your sliders in FSX as you want (you can crank it up quiet high with this build), careful to use "2 x low" for water and to select the 32bit resolution. Only then, you open the newly created FSX.cfg, add the HIGHMEMFIX=1 tweak and see, how your FSX performs. Only then, you can compare the new FSX.cfg with the old one (the one listed here) and step by step, you add the tweaks again. After EACH step, you check in your FSX, if the tweak does you any benefit, for example using a fixed weather theme, the same plane in the same location for each test. If you do not see any improvement, forget about the tweak. If you see an improvement, you can keep the tweak. Sometimes, you realize only when flying a little longer that a certain tweak has advantages in one situation, while it does not help or make things worse in other situations. Keep that in mind. Like this, you can continue through all the tweaks to get the optimum for your personal setup. That is the ONLY WAY how to properly tweak a FSX.cfg, there is no miraculous way to have more FPS, better image quality and no blurries by simply copy pasting settings from other users, homepages or even by running your FSX.cfg through a tool from 2010...

What kind of blurry are we talking here?

 

1) Slow loading textures

 

or

 

2) Loss of clarity in the distance

 

 

Number one is mostly caused by the hard drive not being able to keep up with the demand for files. Causes:

- Hard drive is not a SSD

- Hard drive is fragmented

- Hard drive is slow (5400 rpm instead of 7200 or 10000)

- Hard drive is a SSD, but using a very slow (SATA1) connection

Solutions: Buy a SSD or at least regularly defragment your hard drive (there are guides for that out there).

 

 

Number two is caused by:

- LOD_Radius is at - or lower than - default. Solution: Increase the setting in the fsx.cfg, but be warned that this will increase file read demand on the hard drive.

- Texture filtering is not correctly configured in the video card drivers. Solution: There are a ton of guides for that out there. Google is your friend.

 

 

Another cause for both:

Expectations are too high. No matter how good your system, you will see "blurry" ground textures at certain view angles in the distance. It's a game engine limitation. And even with a SSD, textures will get blurry if you're flying at very high speeds at low altitudes.

Hi, once I had the same problem. Blurry ground textures. But it happened after I downloaded some free scenery and one or two planes, also freeware. What I did was to delete that last free download as well as those last aircraft downloads Problem solved.  Also check your scenery settings as if you set it  on maximum, you'll only get the focus once you nearer the ground. Too high settings could cause it to be out of focus, so to speak, and as you get closer to the ground never gets the focus right. On  pmdg, aerosoft  aircraft and generally on payware you get much less faults like that.  If you've adjusted your scenery settings, then just ignore my advise. Sometimes we look for the faults on the most difficult areas and overlook the simplest, easiest things. Occasionally, if you just restart your rig, your problem is solved but I don't mean that's your problem now.

This is probably obvious, but have you tried to move around the sliders in the settings? If you have a very good computer, try to move most of the scenery sliders *almost* to the right. Just play around with the settings until you're comfortable. And you might want to try that HIGHMEMFIX tweak in the Fsx cfg.

Also, let fsx catch it's breath and don't try to do extreme things, like time compression, flying quick and low, etc. You have to give time for the sim to load the terrain.

And finally, try using addon scenery. But don't use too much, or it will kill your computer. Hope this helped!

And you might want to try that HIGHMEMFIX tweak in the Fsx cfg.
