Does P3D 3 = P3D 2.6?

Featured Replies

I wonder if OP had made a thread saying "I've never used P3D, but this is a day-one buy!" - would all of the Beta Testers (don't forget the capital B and T!) respond in the same manner? As in, "You've never used it, therefore you can have no opinion."

I think this is directed my way ... maybe?  Couple of points, neither one of those quotes exists in this thread ... this thread still exists with opinions intact as it's within ToS so far (with an exception or two) ... but the original title was "Does P3D V3.0 = V2.6?"  The non-speculative answer to that question is No.

The OP then shifted to his opinion on "value" of V3.0 which is fair enough and all within ToS ... I inquired if his opinion was based on actual product use -- it turns out it was not, so it then became pure speculation and conjecture and Bill changed the topic title to be more reflective of the content.  At that point speculation goes back and forth with some that agree and some that don't agree of "value" ... all with ToS so far.

So your first quote is clearly someone's desire ... it's not an opinion or speculation.  Your 2nd quote was never said by anyone in this thread and opinions on both sides are intact in this thread ... again staying within the ToS so far.  Everyone is free to counter opinions so long as they stay within the ToS.

Cheers, Rob.

Yes Chas, pushing the boundaries ... but I think you misspelled "freaking" unless you subscribe to the urban dictionary ;)

Cheers, Rob.

Well as a real pilot and a sim pilot, I have an observation.

based on my many conversations with real pilots and the V3 threads

I suspect that many sim pilots (certainly not all) who got into one of those

conversation may be spirited away after ominous looks exchanged

by the real pilots as a result of them coming to the conclusion that

said sim pilot was likely a terrorist!

I think ....

I get good FPS with 2.5 ( average over 30 fps with a 2 GB GPU) , no OOMs, no blurries, no micro stutters, I fly with all kinds of addons which you can see in my signature, with zero problems.

I think where you went wrong, was saying it was "an excuse to screw us for another fee".  Nobody is screwing you out of anything.

Maybe after almost 30 years of simming I know what I am doing, I think you possibly have some years of catching up to do.

Sorry, but if you really think it's v2.6... you simply have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. There are sooo many changes to Prepar3D v3 that aren't simply on a list of 'things';. Many of them you'd not even care to learn about, but they're there and they make a major difference in the product in many ways.

The bug list isn't the only thing that was changed about the product... it's just the only thing about the product's changes you understand.

Ed just playing devil's advocate for a moment. If this is the case then why can't 2.5 users expect bug fixes without the extras of V3? After all there are bugs and then there are improvements or enhancements. IMHO the later is V3.

The first reason that comes to mind is the same reason that the 1.4 users didn't get the "fixes" of 2.0. There are substantial changes in addition to the fixes that make 3.0 a change in direction. V1.4, 2.0....5 are now unsupported versions. They will no longer be patched or updated. Logistically, it becomes a big problem. There is always a cut off point - in this case, after two years of free support and updates - 2.5 is it.

Philip, can you point to where I said my opinion was the only one?

My "dissent" point was made because 5 out of the 5 immediate responses to my OP were "why post this" - please read them again. 5 out of 5.

It's depressing, when you make a pretty obvious point (like, the new release is disappointing), that you are met with "don't post this" in response to your complaint.

Was it really necessary to start a new topic for this...? Seriously...

I see my post was misunderstood, which might have caused some troubles here. I didn't mean to say you weren't entitled to have an opinion. Read my post again. What I (imho obviously but apparently not) only meant to say was: did you really have to start a NEW TOPIC for this. There is a BIG topic about v3 in which opinions like yours are posted all the time. Why start a new topic about this? That was all. You could and should (imho) your views there. Then it would never ever have resulted in 4 pages (right now) of arguing (on the edge sometimes)...

Are we really so desperate for a new FS solution that we'll accept a few bugfixes as an excuse to screw us for another fee?

Well, English is not my first language, so I always thought that "a few" is appropriate to numbers much smaller than 238 changes.

Give me 64bit.  I'll pay what you like.

And you want 64bit for what? To have better VAS usage I guess? Didn't you notice, that it is there?

Hey Rob

I have a pro license for P3D v2 will it cost me another USD199.00 for P3D v3?

If this is correct, can ask for a refund for P3d v2 and use that refund to buy P3D v3,

Will P3D v3 update P3D v2 or will you have to do a clean install?

Why in this day and age is P3D v3 still 32bit (XPlane 64bit) surely LM with all their resources can make a 64bit flight sim.

Look this is a massive upgrade and LM should be financially rewarded for their efforts and I do not have an issue with that.

If I have too pay another USD199 on top of the USD199 I have already paid, That's a lot of money to invest, Hopefully it will be worth it, time will tell.

PS When the dust settles I will make a decision whether to invest or not.

Robert

I'm not Rob but:

- Yes, it will cost you another USD199,- to get v3

- You can ask for a refund for v2 if you bought it during the last 60 days.

- v3 is a completely separate product so it has to be installed from scratch (alongside v2 if you want to).

- Making the sim 64bit isn't an easy task and it's better to make sure the current 32bit tech has been optimized to the fullest before you make it 64bit. Besides, VAS problems have been taken care off for now.

Erm... Pretty silly really, isn't it?

Let's say you have purchased MS Office 2013 & Office 2016 comes out.

Do you REALLY expect a refund or a free program?

or, you have X-Plane 10 comes out & you have X-Plane 9....

Pretty silly to expect the new version for nothing.

LM does not really need to offer a 64bit version to their corporate clients.

Oh, why $199 & not $59? (No license debate please!!!)

We do not need to know, or are interested, or care if you are not going to buy V3.

This happens after every single sim release!!

Don't knock it, unless you have tried it.. As said MANY times before, full refund offered.

Robin
