Is there any good reason to update to 3.3?

Featured Replies

As there are more "2000 technology" (FSX) airports are out there that just ran fine in P3D V3.2 and much less P3D-compatible airports, the update v3.3 affects nearly 90% of all my current airports. I am sure that the visual progress in v3.3 is not worth the loss of all these airports. I understand that development must go on - but the price is tough.

Regards,

Chris

  • I found nothing in the change log to interest me either .

  • I think the best reason to update is if you like updating all of your add-ons and fixing everything that might get broken...   /s

LM Quote    As you can see fixing one issue with the now standard z-bais ordering of scenery layers has broken something in the older ASM Method. So it's a point in the evolution of P3D that breaks

That can't be right; backups and fallback procedures are fundamental software procedures.

It is good that LM is looking forward to the future, but big steps like loosing backwards compatibility for recent released scenery probably would have been better with a new version....

I can imagine that developers have no intention to upgrade their scenery with each intermediate relea

We do not want scenery for 3.0-3.2 alone, scenery for 3.3 alone, scenery for 3.4 alone etc...

If developers are going to back out on P3D we will end with default scenery at the end...

So are read me files on new software that warn people to make a backup of their original files before installing the new content which could cause problems with some installations.

Pretty sad that we have to depend on a backup to feel confident in "updating" our sim, isnt it? None the less be labeled as "complainers" when we show concern for this tedious practice.

Let me be nice - anyone who does ANY sort of update without having a backup plan is either incredibly naive or incredibly stupid. Of ALL the mantras that have come down the pike since the Turing did his thing -  MAKE A BACKUP - has been  the most repeated.

So no, I do not feel sorry for those who violate the cardinal rule of computing. And if making a backup is too tedious - don't complain - move on.

Until this is sorted out one way or another, It would be nice if LM put the 3.2 installers back up for those that need them.

Here is a glimpse showing the new features of our upcoming ground polygons. Since v3.3 of P3D, older techniques for building grounds are obslete. We took that chance to try creating a fully native P3D ground. Here is a test on our Palermo LICJ scenery.

That looks nice.  One thing that would make it *compelling* is for LM to enable non-flat runways...sloped and crowned.  That would make a compelling reason for devs to change.  The seasons thing has me worried, though.  I'm sure there will be a solution for that at some point.

Sloped runways will only be universally possible if they can also get the AI planes to use them.

Yes, no seasons, is something I would never move to.

I would imagine if all the aircraft were square, you wouldn't move either. Point being, the chance of either happening is non existent. It is truly impossible to really judge a product while it is being assembled - wait until it is complete. I've already read at least 10 posts worrying about no seasons. Typical rampant misinformation.

If true then why move over immediately to an unfinished technique breaking the backwards compatibility, why not wait until it was entirely assembled?

Well then these people spreading this misinformation should be sent to the dungeons, immediately.

Interesting!. Palermo is btw, an excellent scenery developed by Jetstream Design!.

By the way, there are freeware scenery already developed with truly sloped runways, perfectly working under the "old" system.
