Is it just me or is the cockpit lighting a little off?  Every 747 cockpit I've ever been in or seen at night seemed to have a very noticeable orange color emanating from the background lighting.  Knowing PMDG though, there are probably multiple bulb options to create different lighting hues.

Rob,

FWIW, in the 777 there is a colors options menu where you can change the colors of the background lighting (As well as many other things) using hex or rgb. I haven't seen the 747 yet, but I'd expect it to be in there as well.

It's not just you - it's the camera and the post processing, along with some of the processing in P3D.

We go through this with just about every aircraft:

  1. A camera does not know what "white" is, so it will adjust the image to the best that it understands what "white" is. Ever take a picture that was kinda blue-ish? White balance issue on the cool side. White balance can also be on the warmer side as well, which creates more orange hues. Projected light (the screens) is going to throw the balance off for the reflected light (everything else) as well.
  2. Post processing to draw out colors is also pretty common. Even Instagram has the ability to edit saturation to bring out the colors. This will also emphasize whatever hue is in question, which is brown in this case. Boeing Brown being saturated is going to give you a more orange hue.
  3. P3D's HDR function comes with a number of adjustments, one of which - you guessed it - is saturation. The brightness also comes into play. Ever check a color prior to using HDR, and then checking it with HDR on? The color will be rather different (though they've made it better with each version).

All the same, if someone thinks it's off because think photo evidence is better than part numbers, color references, and the Tech Team signing off on it (or if you just want a club scene up on the 74's flight deck), then they can edit the colors in the FMC to their own content.

I think I am a little confused, what is the  "base package" of the new 747, just the the 3 744 pax or all 744s(400/400F/400M...)?

"All three engine types will be included in the initial release, along with the 400, 400M, 400ER, 400F, 400ERF and 400BCF airplanes."

Quite an expansive list for the base release nice! I'm assuming the expansion pack would be the -8 series and maybe the LCF?

I am sure this has been said in the past, but the -8 expansion is not slated to be released alongside the base package.  Correct?

I would assume, that (since it's a expansion package) it will be released at some point after the base package release
