January 5, 20179 yr I do have those upper and lower atmosphere settings enabled. Doesn't help. Edit to add: If I see it again, I'll quick-post an ICAO, but it's gonna be tough to get exactly the same injected weather due to time delays. Might be worth a try though. I actually get them too occasionally, even with the upper and lower atmo settings enabled and everything set to the maximum. It's usually like you said, when the sky is gray and not the bright blue it often is. This is in XP10.51, so doubt it's 11 beta related. Also, does any one lose certain "effects" like prop discs or the like when the view is showing just the plane against the sky? Like, say for instance I'm flying level and I have the view outside. On the lower part of horizon over the ground I get the full propeller effects, but above the horizon against the sky, I get no effects at all from the propeller. Not sure if that makes sense. There are some transparency issues related to X-Plane, like looking through glass will show a clear sky, effects from plane disappear when looking towards the sky, looking through a prop removes effects, smoke rising from a plane cuts off right at the horizon, stuff like that. Believe it's an inherent problem with how depth and transparency work together. January 5, 20179 yr I don't know if this has anything to do with the cloud problems some are having, but there's a bug noted as of : 31/12/2016 Visibility limit slider unpredictable behavior.

With Xenviro off, everything looks normal with my propellers when viewing plane inside or outside. With Xenviro enabled with all settings enabled, the props disappear when outside. Inside from cockpit view looking through window, the props show up just fine even against the sky. With Xenviro enabled but "lower atmosphere" disabled, props show up fine. I also noticed when testing this just now, the window glass disappears as well when "lower atmosphere" is enabled. Additionally, with lower atmosphere off I gain about 4 fps opposed to it being on. Are these all know issues with "lower atmosphere". Thanks for any thoughts, really just passing along what I just saw in direct comparisons. Really nice program otherwise (other than occasional server weather delays/dropouts). Might start flying with lower atmosphere off and see how I like it. January 5, 20179 yr Here's a comparison of the off shot with yours, notice how similar the sky colour is and the clouds (outside of the size difference of course). Yeah, I can see why that led to thinking lower atmosphere might be turned off. My first recommendation would be to completely remove xEnviro and re-install it, to make sure nothing is going on underneath. EDIT: Also, what happens when you tick / untick the lower atmosphere setting under those conditions? Does it get worse? Does anything happen? I'm not ready to uninstall/reinstall yet, but I might try that at some point. I'll try turning on and off the lower atmosphere setting next time I see these clouds. One possibility is that XEnviro is only pulling in a partial set of METAR data, and not building the full vertical layers it needs to represent the current weather. I posted a shot earlier flying out of Vancouver Intl where a thin layer of heavy rain and low viz at ground level suddenly transitioned to blue skies after climbing out of that layer. It looked like a cloud layer failed to load. I've seen a few other things that looked like missing data in a vertical layer. So maybe that's it. Although, you'd think the program would just not try to show something if a layer is missing. I have a pretty solid Internet connection so I don't think it's a network problem on my end. January 5, 20179 yr Honestly I think we need to just wait until Laminar does their thing - like shooting a moving target until it has stopped I would expect a perfect product from xenviro - pretty much impossible really I would get concerned after the RTM version of XP - speaking of that its been pretty quiet on the LR front - hope they are ok lol Rich Sennett

January 5, 20179 yr Well, I'm not expecting perfection from XEnviro, and I know it's in an early release state within a program that itself is in beta. Still, I want to settle down and do some flying, so I want to pick one of these weather programs for the short term. Then I'll evaluate again later. Right now XEnviro is looking great half the time, and really weird the other half of the time. SkyMaxx Pro v4 strikes a middle ground and looks okay most of the time. Not great, but not weird. In the end, and for the short term, I'll pick the one that's the least objectionable looking, because they both have their problems. X-Plane and Microsoft Flight Simulator on Windows 10 i7 6700 4.0 GHz, 32 GB RAM, GTX 1660 ti, 1920x1200 monitor

Never seen such ugly clouds and skies like posted above. Must be a problem outside of xEnviro. [email protected] ∣ Asus ROG Strix B650E-E ∣ 64Gb@6000MT ∣ NVidia 5090 FE

That's why you'll see transparency issues everywhere, under some circumstances with the default game, others with xEnviro, even SkyMaxx. It's just a core problem that needs to be fixed by LR. January 5, 20179 yr While I'm on the subject, here's a repeat of that weird rain behavior I ran into just now (about 15 minutes earlier than this post if you want to try repeating it). Location is EGEO (Oban). Plane on the runway, nice rain effects: Using the same external camera, zoom up a bit higher, still looks good: Continue zooming the camera vertically, just a bit higher.... and BANG!... a sudden transition to clear sky and a few cumulus, no interpolation at all, and no obvious clouds that would cause all that rain. Just weird rain layer that looks like a lake below, with sharp-edged transitions against the mountains. This is the same thing I saw on a flight out of Vancouver a few days ago. Not sure if this is a data dropout. It looks like it's missing a transition layer of overcast and rain clouds that should be sitting on top of this layer, but it's also loading all that higher level stuff. January 6, 20179 yr Heading to KDEN from KLAX today Turning over Las Vegas Unlike Skymaxx Pro, I love the variety of clouds xEnviro gives you. No two flights are the same.
January 6, 20179 yr I've been comparing actual MEETAR via Foreflight with xEnviro 1.06. Looks like a lot of times it's way off in xEnviro. I wonder if has something to do with "historic weather'.
