Thanks to AMD though for raising the bar higher and now Intel will have to be competitive for the first time in years. Absolutely (or the 7600k). The gaming performance reviews have been lackluster for the Ryzen.
March 2, 20179 yr Ryzen is not the chip to buy for FSX or P3D. Not today anyway. Maybe P3D v4 changes things, maybe X-Plane 11. I'll wait till then at least.
March 2, 20179 yr To me this is more about AMD pushing intel to step up their game, so we all win in the long term. Hopefully the next gen intel or AMD allows us to reach our dreams of 60 fps in p3d or xp11 :) 7900x3d , 64gb 6200mhz 30CL Ram, RTX 3080
March 2, 20179 yr x-plane 11 prefers high clock speeds just like p3d, this was the biggest let down for me, i hope intels 6 and 8 core main stream cpu's can do 4.5-5.0ghz in 2018 when cannonlake and icelake comes out. i still might buy the x1800 for testing and then give it to my 8 year old for games
March 2, 20179 yr Oh well, Bulldozer and Piledriver all over again. http://www.pcgamer.com/the-amd-ryzen-7-review/6/
March 2, 20179 yr Author What a disappointment. Okay, I guess I am going to build a 7700k. Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering

Vulcan gives more options to target multicores. Hopefully XPX/Vulcan can take more advantage of cores vs clock speed in the future ! Go ahead and look at the individual benchmarks, sometimes it comes out on top in some games and sometimes not. The reviewer averaging all the benchmarks together really muddies the waters, why not just post the individual results instead of burying them in the review? Definitely NOT another bulldozer or piledriver, those chips were barely competitive against I3 and I5's, these are going against enthusiast /high end chips and holding their own. Edit: Smokes everything else in Battlefield 1 and many of those benchmarks show only a couple of frames diff making me think theres some other limiting factor on all the setups, maybe the GPU? March 3, 20179 yr It seems like there are a few early adopter issues that reviewers were finding which is to be expected with any new hardware release. Some of the boards RAM clock speed is not unlocked, things like that. Most of the reviewers are generally positive but it does feel like it isn't the big revolution that people were expected. As I'm deciding on a new build right now, I think there is real promise for AMD and Ryzen in the future but as things stand now and for the next year or two, I'm going for an overclocked 7700k. I'm not going to be disappointed with a build based on that and in a couple of years, hopefully the playing field (and competition) will be offering us more compelling options on both sides. March 3, 20179 yr The reviews are mixed , some say not that good and some upto the level , the Linus video shows it between intel 6th and 7th generation which is great, AMD never said they are competing with the 7th generation and their performance of 40% is against their previous gens which they achieved . There is heat issue with the 1800X, this is no bulldozer or piledriver and Ryzen is not a disappointment. I think the best is the 1700. Overclocking an 8 core will have heating. this chip is the king of price / performance. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
March 3, 20179 yr When I take a look at the benchmarks I would say Ryzen is no disappointment at all!? Why would you call it disappointing?

March 3, 20179 yr For those of you interested in Ryzen, don't know if you noticed in the Tom Logan video I posted, but he commented that even though the 1800X was running at over 80 degrees at 4 Ghz, the heat coming out of his cooler was minimal, way less than he normally experiences. The above, made him wonder if AMD's chip was encountering the same TIM/Die interface issues as Kaby Lake. Namely could benefit from delliding. HOWEVER... I understand that AMD solder all their chips, so don't be tempted. It can be done [der8auer did it] but very tricky and great chance of screwing up your chip. der8uer screwed up three chips in the process. Tom Logan from OC3D clearly wasn't' aware that the AMD chips are soldered. But I tell you what, it does make me wonder about the quality of the soldering when Tom Logan's cooler was radiating so little heat. Don't try this at home folks!!!

Would be nice to see a good set-up (MB, CPU, Memory, and GC).. And of course one done with P3D. I was also wondering does the Intel 7700K needs to delid to make it achieve better performance ? Wonder if these AMD can be delid, too. I will wait for more reviews and, a couple of Un-Biased reviews by a P3D user. Peace
