Much better performance in P3D V4.3

Featured Replies

I see some improvments in DL not huge but they ar there, and less long frames

I agree 100% with Rob A

Its lot of parameters that can give differnt results , be careful with no improvments or huge 40%

iam happy with the  "mild" improvments thats ar there in my system

Those are pretty harsh words.  Maybe go mow the lawn if your getting too worked up over this.

There's a big difference in the performance and maximum throughput of your system vs the OP. A 980Ti <> 1080Ti when running 4K + DL.

I've noticed an improvement in smoothness and max FPS on my rig too.

Think alot of this is subjective.  Im sure there is FPS improvements else why would LM even mention it. So the fact that some see performance improvement and some dont, is clearly a difference in system configuration, and addons.  Perhaps even the way some addons are compiled with what SDK may have  a bearing on performance.

Havnt done alot of testing as yet, but in my first few test flights, I had about the same until panned around and spot view doing 360 view all around, then my fps jumped 10fps locking into 30 with 4k @30hz. But some airports were harder hit still and others were great. So again it comes down to addon and how well they are optimized.

To really test it, use default p3d v4.3.  when they reference improvement in performance, im sure they are not referring to specific addons but rather the core of 4.3. Adding 3rd party addons then adds all kinds of variables that can affect that core statement.

There's just too many variables that come into play to do a proper performance comparison. Like others have said, everyone has their own unique setup. Some play in 1080p, others in 4k, some in 1440p. Some start at different airports, with different add-ons, etc.

If you wanted to do a comparison you should have everyone use the same addon, start at the same airport, run at the same resolution, etc.

I am not yet on 4.3, but I read on a German forum that locking fps makes autogen fading in smoothly even with the max distance setting. Might be worth trying - no guarantee of course.

I was (...am...) a victim of this issue myself and will try it as soon as I find time to install 4.3.

Kind regards, Michael

The problem with discussions like this usually is that people tend to forget that a lot of us are simply sharing personal experiences and not hard facts that have to be the same for everyone. So the OP sees much better performance on his PC with P3D 4.3! Nice! Awesome! Great for him! Really! If you do not see that much better performance, well, pity, too bad for you! If performance gotten worse on your PC, bummer, I feel sorry for you. And that's where people should leave it at. But noooooooooo, instead of just saying 'I am not seeing that improvement on my PC', period, people start saying things like 'I am not seeing that improvement on my PC, so you must be lying'.

Nonsense.

If everyone would simply see personal reports about performance as PERSONAL reports than no one would get annoyed, no one would need to accuse others of anything, no one would need to be accused, no one would have to be called a liar and we would have peace on earth.

Why call it a hype or a lie or whatever? If someone sees an improvement on his PC or if someone says things look smoother BE HAPPY FOR HIM. If someone says his fps has gone from 25 to 50, wow, great! That didn't happen on my PC but I am happy for you! If you don't see similar improvements: too bad, but be happy with what you've got.

There is no need at all to call each other bad names and to have heated discussions about it because you will never be able to compare things in a good way anyway. If one guy says fps has gone from 25 to 50 with 4.3 and another says it didn't happen on his PC, it still is 25, do you expect the other guy to say 'Oh, you are right, it didn't go from 25 to 50 here'? Of course not, he will still be enjoying his fps of 50 no matter how mad you get about it. Calling someone a liar won't bring his performance down to your level. Neither will saying 'But it really is better!' turn a mediocre fps of 20 into a whopping 60+ on someone else's computer.

Discussions like these are a waste of forum space, really. And time. People should spend more time flying.

I installed 4.3 (client only for now, but contents will follow). Unfortunately my experience agrees to yours: Autogen still loads in patches, albeit perhaps a tad faster. fps locked or not doesn't matter.

Anyone, perhaps, with more luck on this one?

Kind regards, Michael

I challenge anyone who claims to have "Huge","40%", "Doubled" performance to do the same comparison that I have shown on my system. It's easy.

1. setup a scenario, save it and ten fly for about 10 minutes recording the flight with the built in recorder and save the .fsr file. Something where you are maintaining about 35 fps. And restore your default textures first. the less addons the better.in my videos, only orbx and addon airports where involved and the ngx in the night video.

2. For good measure restart the sim, load the saved scenario and then playback the .fsr file. do not change the view or move the point of view. use shadowplay to make a video of the flight with the fps counter in the bottom right corner.

3. backup your .cfg to the desktop.

4. unistall the client, Scenery and Content.msi for V4.2 and after each one install the Client, scenery, and Content.msi for V4.3 all per LM instructions.

Compare the .cfg to the one on your desktop. they should be identical. edit if necessary the new .cfg to match the one you already used.

5. delete your shader folder and do the necessary with the addons you used like ORBX unified look and airport elevation for example. Don't use any addons that where not used in the V4.2 recording.

6. start V4.3 and load the saved scenario and .frs file.. again don't move the view. The view must be identical in both videos. Let the recording play a couple of times to regenerate the shaders.

7. for good measure restart the sim. load the scenario and start the playback of the .fsr file and record with shadowplay. Before hand move the shadowplay fps counter to the bottom left corner.

8. you have then capture the exact same rendering in 4.2 and 4.3.

9 I used VLC to place the two videos side by side so that the FPS counters where next to each other and anyone can see that videos are virtually identical with very close FPS in both.

The only reason I even bothered doing this is because I was suspicious of the claims made in the "Prepar3D V4.3 has been released" thread.

And I suspected they where BS claims.

My challenge to anyone making such claims is to repeat what I did and show that there are "Huge","40%", "Doubled" performance increases.

If they do i'll eat my words!

Why bother? What a waste of precious time. What's the problem if someone else says he or she is having a 40% increase in fps? What difference does it make to the performance on YOUR computer? None! If he or she is right or not or full of BS, it won't change anything on your or my or anyone else's computer. So why go through all this trouble while you could have enjoyed a nice flight instead? I would never ever waste my time on challenges like this and I can't really imagine why anyone else would.

No personal attacks please, I'd rather NOT have to take action in this thread but I will if some of you can't just disagree politely without name calling and characterizations.

I'd recommend you do the content update also Michael, just be sure to re-install those products that might be impacted by a content install (I don't think many are but you can look at what's in each "package" here: https://prepar3d.com/news/2018/06/114765/)

Cheers, Rob.

Didn't take that long and I did it for my own benefit. But since I did it I shared my finding. Frankly, I am suprised that someone who has been knocking around the FS community as long as you've been doesn't care about people propagating gross misinformation about one of our beloved platforms.

I agree with Jeroen, sorry.   The guy can think what he wants, as can you.   This is about rainbows and unicorns and general happiness -- not questioning people's motives.   A new version of any sim should be a cause for happiness, I think.   And if not, a person always stay on the version they like best.

I have not made a formal study but It does seem like most folks who report little or no change are running 1080TI. Many who report improvements, and that includes me have 980TI or similar.....even with some sliders up a notch. If you read the list of updates, a lot of them are just things getting tweeked by LM. Those things could make it possible for us less endowed in the GPU area and older processors to perform a little better. You guys with the big pipes 🏑 were already enjoying those benefits and wont see as much improvement or none at all.😂

Now I wish and I am sure along with plenty of others that all of you spinning BS hype about 4.3 would just stop. It is raising false expectation in the community that will not be meet and hence leave many who update and even purchase Prepar3D V4 disappointed.

I don't know how in the hell you know my setup in terms of what software I run and if its updated or not. What software have I not updated for v3.4?

Rob isn't the end all be all to the FS world. I don't care if hes a beta tester for boeing. What I know is, is that I have a MASSIVE improvement with the performance pertaining to dynamic lighting. Just because you don't and Rob doesn't doesn't mean a thing.

You are so mad and bent on letting everyone know how you feel...

Spend that time on something more constructive.

That's enough guys. I am REALLY amazed, although I SHOULD know better. How many times does it have to be said that everyone's system is different? So someone says " I got a huge increase" and someone else ants him to PROVE it? Really???

Calling someone a liar because YOU do not agree with their findings is a violation of Avsim TOS and  any future childish retorts will be dealth with.

What surprises me the most is that many of the people involved in this thread have been around for a long time and should know better - they should know the posters who are always positive and those that are always negative and respond accordingly.

If someone wants to start a thread about their impressions on V4.3 and we can keep it civil - go for it but this one has too many bad vibes.
