REX EF Final Vertict?

Featured Replies

Took advantage of the sale and bought REX Environment Force. My question is, can this be installed on a network computer? I already have Sky Force 3D running on a network PC and wanted to do the same (if possible) with Environment Force.

Ok this is what I have done.

1.) the same, but configured the texture resolution option in manual mode which has the same as in SF

2.) the same but setup all the cloud models / texture resolution / etc... same resolution as in EF

3.) Correct

4.) restore the original shaders from P3D before running EF
(is the folder ShadersHLSL in the P3D main folder which need to be restored, I make always a backup of the main folders after a new version of P3D)
Or you could uninstall the P3D client and reinstall, which will write the original shader folder. Also delete the shader folder (C:\Users\(yourUsrName)\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\Shaders)

In auto mode EF just does that and select all stuff based on AS RW

Mark with SF and EF goto textures and change them to DTX5 512 there all 4k default. Make sure to do it in both.

IMO you don't need or want other shaders just use ASP4 for weather SF and EF job done. EF in Full AUTO.

Thanks guys.  I did not restore the original shaders before running EF. I am I able to do that through Tomatoshade?  I hope so, I really don't want to reinstall the client.

Mark back up (no need but..) delete your HLSL shader folder within P3D, run client and choose repair it will take seconds and you will have a new default HLSL shader folder.

Exactly + Save a copy of the new default ShadersHLSL folder on your pc outside P3D

Hi,

For those new user...what do you think?  Easy to set-up, easy-to-use, notice improvements to textures & colors, etc.?

Thanks!

Is it already possible to tune the clouds brightness manually ( make them more white ) when using automated mode ?

Did you find a solution? I don't use any other shader/texture tweaks, only REX SF+EF + Active SkyP4.

Sorry, I thought you were using EF, because your question about grey clouds was in this EF thread.

No need to be sorry. I am following the EF thread with great interest.

A friend of mine has it too and I have seen EF in action. Lots of potemtial, but at this moment I find the clouds too grey in several situations. Therefore my question to the more experienced EF users...

The clouds to be too grey is rather a broad subjective statement. If you don’t own it how can you know this ? The auto mode tweaks the cloud coloring and the lightning. But the clouds have not been reported to be too gray in normal operations of EF.

I picked up EF on sale. It does have great potential. Once 3rd-party textures are integrated, the texture injection functions as it should, and when the automated lighting and water influence get dialed in better I will use it every flight. Using asp4, Rex TD, and EF in automated mode to create the environment right now just doesn't give me the atmosphere that holds my interest. The daytime cloud lighting and shadows, whether sunlit or overcast, aren't quite right. i'd say they're too grey..., but you've said that already. 🙂  In my opinion the EF mix of cloud sunlit bloom, indirect lit areas, and shadow areas does't have the right contrast or color response. To be fair EF does do a better job of it at dawn and dusk. But midday isn't hitting the mark.

At this moment the combo of asp4, asca, envtex, and your PTA all-seasons June profile create a more enjoyable and realistic environmental experience for me.

However, I really like the cloud morphing that EF brings. And I also lean toward liking the Rex TD/SC textures better than the asca and envtex ones, but just by a bit.

SO, all that being said. Why can't someONE get it right? I guess there still might be hope!

BTW, are you doing a July PTA profile Gerard? Not that you need to, June is pretty dialed in. Just curious... Any-who thanks for your contributions sir, hope that helps.

ps, sorry, I don't have an answer to your question about EF manual editing in auto mode.

You can’t be serious . Look at your own forum and several posters here at Avsim. The screenshots that they have posted.

And I have seen EF working with my own eyes at a friends.

Imho there need to be the possibility to tweak the brightness of the clouds with a min - max value, so within a range.

Autimated settings are the personal taste of the maker... Like I make my PTA presets.

Myself I like more cloud brightness when the sun is shining on top of them, a little more cloud shadows on themselves and a little more saturation :
