I wouldn't be at all disappointed if the "Microsoft Flight Simulator X" hint just means we'll get to listen to the FSX theme song in the new sim's user interface 😎

BTW I LOVE the cloud shadows in that short video. Can't wait for more info.

I do hope that they bring back the FSX theme song!

What I read about the hint is: their next update will be FSX, which means they will release SP3 for FSX. 😁

Does anyone else scroll to the bottom of the page and think, word not allowed, I wish Mr. Allensworth was around to see the times we're living in?

No, I don't either, hopefully they've figured out a way without the legacy code.

Unlikely; I think many of you are forgetting that FSX is a 32 bit application. Thus, to convert your legacy aircraft will require recompiling the source code to conform to a 64-bit architecture.  Obviously, licensing agreements prevent MS from doing this without the express consent of the original creator.  In short, the guesses regarding backward compatibility are probably misplaced, at least as it applies to aircraft and other complicated addons.

I dont think its about backward compatibility, i rather expect them to release FSX as free to play or announce it as part of XBox GamePass

Excellent.

What kind of reply are you looking for that would live up to a reply being of 'Value'?

I see alot of excited simmers, the openness of MS laying the roadmap, listening and involving the community, and sharing their reactions of what looks to be a great few months ahead to learn more.  The 3 sec clip even looks fantastic. Express optimism, be it cautious or not but a major dev that wants to listen and involve feedback from WE the simmers surely provides value.

Guys, they are teasing us, even messing with us. It's great that they read the AVSIM forums and we should appreciate their approach towards the community for now.

MSFS is in development for quite some time now, it's incredible what has been shown so far. But let trusted developers like PMDG, FS Labs, FlightBeam, FlyTampa etc. get their hands on the SDK to judge their possibilities with the new platform, before anybody jumps to any conclusions. And the issue of how (and where) they'll be able to sell their products for MSFS is also not answered, yet.

Of course everybody and their sister would love to see this almost perfect landscape with dense autogen, 60+ fps due to leveraging 32 threads on a 16 core CPU and raytracing capabilities of a 2080 SUPER--but there will be disappointments for sure.

As for me, I'll become the biggest fan of Microsoft if my dreams as a sim(!) enthusiast will become true...!

Cheers

I do see that announcement from Microsoft.

I do not see anything in this topic except enthusiasm for something that is way off in the future.

While this is wonderful for those that share it and delight in posting "me too" and their own pet theory

of how it will be done, there is nothing here that could advance the developmant of the proposed simulator.

If value is found in sharing what is already done to death, than that is really good for those that find it.

I just do not see it.

Umm what are you expecting? There are other threads to discuss advancing this simulator.

Excellent.

Do you have anything of value to add?  If you believe everything said so far is worthless, maybe you can improve things a bit.  Everyone will have some kind of insight that might further our knowledge of the new sim.

Trying to assess the improvement in volumetric clouds is near impossible in a 3 second video. I would have preferred to see one long enough that shows the aircraft descending through a cloud layer with views to the left and right so we can see the improvement over the current cloud rotation issue with non-volumetric clouds.

They might have developed some kind of conversion utility to migrate FSX addons into FS2020.  That would truly be epic.  Converted addons might not be as detailed or modern as native FS2020 addons will be, BUT it would give the new sim a HUGE array of aircraft to fly out of the gate.

I hope not. I'm all for a fresh new start.

There will definetely be no backwards compatibility.

Whilst this may eventually prove to be the case, how can you possibly know this for certain? (Unless you're the MS mole, of course!)

Unlikely to happen unless they somehow compensate DTG who currently have the licence to sell it on Steam.
