LOL....JV at Orbx mustn't be liking this. A lot of their stuff will be of no use; Global Base gone, LC products gone, True Earth gone, City Scene gone, Regions gone, HD Buildings gone, Orbx Trees gone. Just airports will be it. Practically the bulk of their portfolio is redundant. No wonder they are focusing on XP (though that is a gamble people will stay with that).

I'm currently reading trough all of the MS event posted today on FSELITE.com man Im blown away!!!! just look at some of the clips in this interview alone (tons of screenshots in the post ahead)

This is the info MS was hinting would have come sooner then we thought....WOW WOW WOW!!

Yeah that’s true, they will probably loose a lot of revenue if a lot of XP and P3D users jump ship. They’ve really expanded their business a lot over the past few years adding more employees and even an office I think. They probably never envisioned MS getting back into FS, much less with a new sim like this.

XP users will not be sticking with XP.  Now that the flight modeling has been confirmed as being on par with the XP (which for the most part was the major differentiator) the playing field has shifted - significantly

Unless you're using Mac OS X or Linux, which is what originally made me use XP9 when FSX was available

Companies will follow the users, it's either adapt or die basically. There are a lot of companies who are going to need to shift focus because any niche that they were using or developing for in the sim has been closed.

No season`s in MSFS P3D and LM will be safe, MSFS is a picture post card flyer.

ORBX will fall back in love with P3Dv4 and seasonal scenery.

Freeware. 
Zibo 737, Gateway scenery and Ortho4XP are even bigger reasons from my reading of social media.

MFS is going to do all of that (well, an A320) and probably all of it better. Just need someone to provide an AutoGate or SODE equivalent and it appears there's nothing XP11 can do that MFS cannot.

MFS will also be multiples cheaper than bringing P3D to an acceptable level.

I reckon we will see procedural grass, trees, snow and maybe even frozen lakes, in the landclass / 'Fully Offline Mode' to define seasons.
Hopefully, photoscenery / 'Adaptive Streaming' seasons will come later through the use of shaders.

Check out the interview in the thread SDK Discussion for MSFS, season`s not planed but may come some time down the road not important according to the Dev`s summer texture only, this put`s it in direct competition  with LR XP but P3DV4 will be the only sim with seasonal scenery, I will not give up my season`s and my PMDG aircraft now I will take a pass on this now.

I must not have been clear. I claimed that I think quality freeware is the biggest reason for XP's popularity (and a lesser effect of P3D needing lots of expensive add-ons), rather than your claim that aerodynamics in XP is the primary reason for the numbers using XP as a main sim.

There now appears to be nothing that current gen sims can do that MFS cannot do much, much better and possibly cheaper. I'm expecting use of current sims to plummet once MFS is mature.

Flight dynamics has always been the biggest technical differentiator between FSX based sims and XP.  Now it has no unique selling point.   It's just another plausible world sim.

People will also opt for free stuff yes.  But that isn't exactly a glowing endorsement for the sim itself..

Now it probably doesn't mean a whole lot but Mike (Major) Nelson just confirmed that the sim will be available on the Microsoft Store and Gamepass next year. Also it looks like they've used a lot more legacy code than I thought so I was wrong about that.
