There is no vaccine against the new beastie. Besides, there is no treatment against it either. Hospitals, doctors mitigate the symptoms only (Respiratory difficulties, fever etc.)

Common sense dictates to be careful.

forget to even respond to a "smart" post like that domkle, how i deal with my grandparents only my wife and i decide.

Things are getting worse here in Spain, today has been announced the state of alarm, which will traduce in closing non essential things and probably a limitation on the movements (Maybe some kind of quarantine, we don’t know yet).

So if I don’t get invited to the next week alpha wave, I think I’m going to become crazy at home (hope not to get illness).

There is little scientific or clinical logic to closing down schools too early in this situation. But it helps to alleviate the media induced sense of panic among the masses.

There absolutely is hard scientific and clinical reason to close down schools and much more.

Here's also a convenient gif that explains how different attitudes affect the curve

#Cornavirus has a cure rate of 99.7% for those under 50 it infects. Cornavirus spread is leveling off.

You realize that what the world does and has to deal with has nothing to do with american politics? We don't care one thing about it.

More over, you don't seem to understand that the issue with this coronavirus is not mortality at all. It's how contagious it is and how a 5% of the infected needs to stay in ICU for WEEKS. While a 5% isn't much, the fact that the virus is very contagious makes sure that it will be a lot of people needed an Intensive Care Unit. I can't speak for the States but, at least for Europe, none of the nations have enough ICU beds for the potentially high number of people who will require it. Which will lead to a collapse of the healthcare system and an increase of deceased.

Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."

1. American politics have nothing to do with an officially recognized global pandemic, declared so by the World Health Organization.

2. Simply because it has a lower contagion doesn't mean we should take it less seriously

3. The death rate quickly goes up with people 50 years or older. Are we just going to ignore old people?

4. It's leveling off only in countries that took immediate and drastic measures, so pretty much only China and South Korea. In every other country it's spreading fast and accelerating.

5. As i said before, countries going in lockdown and thousands of deaths aren't "just media hype for an election".

With respect, you guys are wasting your time. Anybody who thinks this is a global hoax (with close coordination across countries as different as Italy, Iran, and China?) to affect a U.S. election is obviously not operating with a full deck...

I still try despite knowing all i get out of it is getting word not allowed off at other people. I know i should stop but sometimes i get results.

Edit: wait, the word "p i s s e d" is not allowed? I didn't even know some people consider it a swear word.

While that is true, there are lots of way of telling someone the stupidity of their argument. And since internet gives voice to them, it might as well give voice to my side of things too.
There is another thing however. It's one thing to read about it in the news and it's another thing to see it with your own eyes.

This is a viral-pneumonia being hyped as the Black Plague before an Election.

The US isn't the entire world. No one is voting for anything in Italy yet doctors are, right now, having to decide to let elderly patients die because there aren't enough ICU beds.

Any indication of Covid-19 spread levelling off is due to heavy isolation measures put in place by China and Europe. It's due to people taking the exact opposite attitude to you.

Left unchecked, infection rates double every 4 days. With no vaccine there's the potential for it to rip through a county, infecting 60 - 80% of the population, overloading hospitals and killing 10s or 100s of thousands.

As you said earlier,  there will be nominations aplenty for the Darwin Awards in 2020

Well, you know, in any aviation-related community, there's bound to be a couple of people that'll say, "Hey, there's a gap between those two thunderstorm cells - I bet I can just get through there."

Looking forward to reading the writeup in Peter Garrison's "Aftermath" column in Flying.

I always think it is best to read a post carefully before dismissing it. My words were  ' There is little scientific or clinical logic to closing down schools too early in this situation.'  By closing schools at an early stage it guarantees that children will be roaming around, mixing with others, including elderly people, to a greater extent than if they were in school. This has been explained many times by respected healthcare professionals, in official capacities, who are not seeking to promote themselves online, for possible commercial reasons.

At some point in the spread of the virus, in any country, it probably will be necessary to impose a total lockdown, but that requires careful consideration. Not a knee jerk reaction.  Closing schools at an early stage will impress those who want to see something done, but do little to flatten the curve. It will also affect healthcare workers with children. Do they take time off to look after them every day?  Simplistic solutions rarely have the desired effect.

Eh. There are billions of people in the world, and some of them are bound to be be completely immune to logic, reason, facts, science, evidence, etc......

Unfortunately for them, living in an alternate reality shows few signs of being an effective vaccine..........

In a way you are right for that particular person but there are other viewers, lurkers who are still in the doubt about the reality of the threat and the importance to be cautious, young and old alike. Not paranoid, not panicky but cautious.  To say that it is a hoax invented by the medias is irresponsible because reading that, some people will not take the necessary measures to protect themselves. So it is useful to repeat ourselves.

Also, as said above, this is not only about the nasty disease itself but that it fills up rapidly all the ICU beds of our countries. That means less beds for heart attacks, strokes, traffic casualties etc. In France for instance all not urgent surgeries have been canceled.
