Things I'd like to know:
- How big is the performance improvement?

- How long have devs had to prepare update for this?

No matter what, I'll get excited over a new sim any day.

What interested me -

Have you been working closely with developers with the development of Prepar3D v5 so that they can easily bring their add-ons to the new simulator quickly for the wider community?

Yes, we pride ourselves on an open and thriving ecosystem of third-party developers. Many of our major third-party developers have been part of our extensive v5 beta program to not only begin developing new content but to provide feedback on the new features.  In addition, backwards compatibility is very important to us. With the new rendering engine there are some visual differences, specifically with lighting that may have had some small impacts to third party textures, dynamic lights, and other effects. Our third parties have been using the beta version of v5 to make these adjustments and quickly release their v5 versions near our launch.

I am missing two points:

- Removed autogen popping at higher autogen distance settings

- Removed ground morphing in mountain regions for high-resolution mesh

Kind regards, Michael

Maybe DX12 will solve the first point...

As many developers have committed to MSFS2020, I am wondering how many will "commit" to P3Dv5 with the new technologies.

For me it is simple, I really do not want to have to rebuy my P3D addons to be honest so I will probably wait to see what happens with MS, although I was encouraged to read this

"  What’s great is that for most content developers, nothing new is required to tap into the power of DirectX 12.  All models and effects are being rendered using our new engine, which automatically takes advantage of the CPU and GPU optimizations we have put in place. One-way developers can get more out of the new engine is to upgrade their models to use our Physically Based Rendering (PBR) materials."

Will previous addons only require a little tweaking ? I wonder

Here is a cut and paste from the Interview. Don't know if this will help or hurt :)

Added additional advanced Varjo headset options.

Additionally, using the Prepar3D Development Kit (PDK), software developers can create their own custom rendering effects and textures using C++ and DirectX 12.  In fact, our Virtual Reality module is developed using the PDK rather than internal interfaces to ensure that third-party hardware vendors could develop their own advanced Extended Reality (XR) integrations as an add-on, too.

Addon support will be the difference for me. If I can't port over stuff from V4, I don't see myself buying V5 with FS2020 on the way. Now, If I can port over a lot of add ons, both scenery and aircraft like the NGXu, I will probably buy V5 and FS2020. If I can't, I'll stick with V4 and wait for FS2020 where at least I know we'll have the NGXu.

I won't, however, rebuy my current addons for V5 when I know I will probably have to rebuy them for FS2020 anyway. That's not happening as far as I am concerned, so every developer should keep that in mind when they are considering their plans for V5.

Looking at the video, it seems like this isn't much of a leap in the way that FS2020 will be, so I am hopeful that switching over to V5 won't be as bad as switching to V4 was.

I feel its too late for P3D...I do appreciate the large gap they filled after FSX dried up but its 2020 now and MS are back in the game to give us a breath of fresh air from P3D's money grab Version 1-5 "Academic Licenses"

Yeah, I just saw the v5 teaser trailer. Other than the cloud colors and shadows, the ground textures and all the rest of it is still ole fsx. Not enthralled.

So many unanswered questions about compatibility with third party P3D4 airports, scenery, aircraft, etc.
