On my modest system at Orbx KHAF in P3D v4.5, when looking towards the hills in the east where San Fransico is lurking behind. my frames (locked at 30) would drop dramatically. This does not happen in v5; they stay at 30 (same settings with a highly reduced level of AA and AF). It's definitely a lot smoother than v4.5, but I requested a refund anyway, because my videocard is not up to the settings I would like to use. You're missing the best part about v5 then. v5's smoothness is more impressive to me, than the fps. Even an unloaded v4HF2 wasn't this stutter-free. So we're starting at a much better point with v5, prior to loading it down with add-ons, than we were with 4.5HF2, which was itself a really good version. April 22, 20206 yr There's something that i dont get: What is the point of having V5 if you will need to drop your sliders to fsx levels (Some even talk about 1024 textures!) to be "safe" from ctds due to vram? Sounds like to enjoy the same addons that you're using in 4.5 you will need to drop those sliders a lot and it obviously will look worst than v4.5, so what's the point? Juan Ramos

Maybe not all people have issues....so some people are quick to get refund and they know that LM is working on fix. So what's the point of that? As far as I can see there are lot's of reports that V5 is smooth. Once they make a fix and once we have all add-ons (PMDG/FSL/REX/ASP5), than we can talk. In the mean time this tread became pointless....Bashing and complaining using bush planes without weather? CTD on landing? If something is really wrong than that means we all would have same issues...This could be some baby disease...LOL And yes, we are talking Lockheed Martin...Name tells it all, doesn't it? They are not in business since yesterday. My sliders are to the right and textures to 2048 and I didn't had CTD on landing...didn't had any CTD. And with all that MAX of 4 GB. With 1070 GTX. So how's that happening? So let's wait and see. Patience is a virtue...... I have none but....whatever. Alex
April 22, 20206 yr Much of this VRAM issue comes down to the complexity of the scenery. I can fly with high settings at Orbx Skagit, but those same settings crash my system at Orbx Vashon. I can't even load the sim at FSDT Chicago O'Hare unless I turn to minimum settings. I'm not sure how you can confidently create a flight without knowing if you're VRAM has enough headroom for the destination you chose. All of my testing has been with GA, and I'm sure the payware airliners would be much heavier still. Curt Branch

I don't know what your monitor refresh rate is, so I can't tell you what the recommended FPS setting is. For me, in v5 so far (that could change), that is a 60hz refresh, vsync ON, and framerate unlimited. I can also do 30hz refresh, vsync ON, and framerate unlimited, but 60 is nicer 😀 One of the perks of v5 so far, is that it performs so much better, I am able to vsync at 60 instead of 30, for my rural performance profile. I'm pretty sure that once I load up a complex airport with a complex airliner, my hardware won't be able to maintain 60, and I'll have to revert to a 30hz refresh rate, and vsync at 30 fps...but even there, P3Dv5 is significantly more fluid than v4.5HF2 was. April 22, 20206 yr Personally, I've increased many of the settings from what I used in V4. So far it's way smoother, and my VRAM usage with a 1080ti at 1440p are generally in the 6gb range with ORBX regions, airport scenery, AI and weather (I don't use Truesky yet due to the weird visual glitching with terrain and scenery objects). i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
April 22, 20206 yr One good thing I've seen from V5 so far is that it seems to have solved the dreaded stutter that always occurred at FlightBeam's SFO when you cross the intersecting runways.

April 22, 20206 yr 2 hours ago, Boomer said: 144Hz. There was a discussion of G-Sync and smooth performance in this thread, starts about mid-way down the first page. Assuming you have G-Sync enabled, you need to keep your framerate above 36 fps because that's the lower bound for G-Sync. Below that it doesn't work. Then I'd suggest making sure G-Sync is enabled in Nvidia Control panel for Prepar3d.exe and then experiment with settings based on what you can reliably achieve. Personally, I'd aim for something around 40 as a starting point, so you can try locking your frames there or around there, and try it with vsync on and off in P3D because different people have had different experiences and I'm not a G-Sync expert. 5800X3D | Radeon RX 6900XT

My 11GB 1080Ti gets easily maxed out in v4.5 in areas with high resolution and high density scenery (think Orbx Honolulu). The worst part is that one is not aware of the issue until you suddenly get a slide show. I now keep HWInfo64 always running just to keep an eye on my VRAM usage, which in v4.5 averages 4 GB just cruising over Canada. No way am I buying a new video card with less that 11 GB and I'm waiting for something closer to 18-22 GB. HWInfo64 That is quite the program. Lots of info. Jim 747-100 till the end.
