Come on mate, this is 2020. Adjusting settings is SO old.

+5 thanks for letting them know😄, people just tend to fire up the sim ad don't study the settings lol

people are saying a sold 30fps like its a good thing in 2020, while vulkan has 70fps oh and no stutters which are in every p3d version...

i5 8600K  @4.5Ghz 16GB RAM GTX1060

Yeah I’ve seen x-plane and Vulkan and you aren’t going to get a solid 70 fps in dense sceneries and heavy addon aircraft. What I’ve seen in videos is around 40 fps in those situations which is great. When I say solid 30 fps, I mean you’d probably see 60+ in many situations if not locked to 30 hz vsync. It’s in those demanding situations where fps would drop below 60 and fluctuate that I’m trying to avoid.

I’ve loaded many demanding (more like unoptimized) sceneries and 60 fps is definitely possible. But you pan to certain spots and there’s a drop to near 30. This is a huge improvement compared to v4 where the drop would be to 15 or lower. This was DD ChicagoX + DD Chicago Airports KORD which is probably the worst optimized airport scenery I have outside of DD New York Airports JFK.

From what I understand the FSDreamteam KORD really shines in V5 and I’ll have to pick that one up some time.

Indeed! It's like reading the manual... Eww!

I can honestly say I am very pleased.  I fly VR only so I don't get to use the enhanced atmospherics so I will be looking forward to Hifi for make AS/ASCA compatible.  In the beginning I was having a disconcerting out of synch effect between the two eyes when panning but have been able to tame that by actually cranking up the sliders.  LM has also indicated that they believe they know what is causing it and will be working on a fix.  What I am seeing with that is now pretty minor.  Now on to what I am also seeing

-Cranked up sliders

-Exceptionally clear scenery including distant mountains

-Ability to ramp up air and road traffic with no impact

-Properly scaled houses

-All this and more with great performance 45 fps in demanding areas like ORBX TE Netherlands flying over Rotterdam.

I am looking forward to PMDG, A2A, Hifi, and Majestic to get there products playing well with V5.  But I feel this is a significant step in the right direction

Requesting a refund, very disappointed.

For people saying they don't like the colors, etc. are you aware you can tweak this via the HDR and Saturation slide bars? move the Saturation to the left and see the changes..

As a compulsive visual tweaker, I absolutely agree with you, but with one exception. A huge issue that cannot be fixed by any sliders is the (insert expletive here) auto-exposure/adaptation feature. In V4, it could easily be eliminated by using PTA/TS, but the HDR shader was rewritten, so it'd take more HLSL knowledge than I have to change it...

All in all, I was initially discouraged by the TrueSky implementation, but it's been growing on me. I think it is, to a large extent, a case of managing expectations. It should've been advertised as being in beta...

One thing to note: the "Enhanced Atmospherics" feature doesn't seem to play nice with the time preview slider, and some of the weird artifacts people have been reporting might be caused by that (i.e. things go back to normal when you apply the desired time setting).

Cheers,

Tym

I hate the new v5 splash screen, ugly as hell. I want a refund.

To be honest I don't think the waves are that different than earlier version.

Bought a one-month developer license and i am very VERY surprised at the incredible performance update from latest version. Also, the new environment is breathtaking, although still in beta and with clear need for fixes.

All in all, the most significant update ever for P3D. No more terrain popups, no more tearing, even with low fps smoothness is incredible, the new UI is, well, weird but more functional (so i like it). I will most surely buy a full license when the dev license expires, depending on already ported add-ons, but yeah, almost sure.

I am curious why some people think they need 45 or 60 frames per second?

The eye cannot see more than 30 fps.

I understand gamers who want more fps because of the fast movement and scene changes, but for a flight simulator?

I set P3Dv4.5 at 30 fps and have a nice smooth experience.
