  1. I run at 2560x1440, single monitor. I've seen VRAM usage in excess of 13GB, but I normally fly light GA planes from smaller airports, so no VRAM-heavy add-ons.
  2. I'd definitely rule out the 3080 Ti, its 12GB of VRAM simply won't cut it for 2024 (you'll be constantly balancing on the verge of VRAM exhaustion). I have just replaced my 3080 for that very reason. The 3090 has plenty of VRAM, and seems like the best bet in terms of memory, but you'll be restricted to older DLSS versions. I've always been skeptical about "fake frames", but I have to admit that the more recent frame generation technologies can produce a significant improvement in smoothness. The 50x0 series is generally overpriced for what it offers, but the 5060 Ti looks reasonable compared to its "bigger" siblings, and you'll be getting all the latest tech. 16GB should be OK, but it'd wait for some feedback from multi-monitor users. I've gone with the RX 9070XT (my first "red" card in ages...), but it's a bit pricier than the 5060.
  3. Which package do you mean? The one from Wookie042 is still only available in the old 2020 version in the usual place... EDIT: Please disregard the above, the fs.to search initially failed to return the new version by 55tom55. Thanks for the heads-up!
  4. Yes, looks very much like Sitka.
  5. I was just complaining in the A2A Legacy thread about the lack of good "workhorse" planes for Alaska... Looks like I'm going to have to up my game and learn about turbines 😉 This is going to be perfect, instant buy from me as well.
  6. I see where you're coming from, and I'm very happy about the announcement (flew the RA Legacy a LOT in FSX/P3D), but... at the risk of sounding like a broken record 😉 I was really hoping for something more utilitarian, like a Cessna 185, 206 or 210. At least in FSX/P3D, the less-refined models such as Carenado's 185 could be modded by guys like Bert or Glenn to fly and operate properly...
  7. Thanks! KORS seems to have correct frequencies in the online flight planner, too, but not in the sim itself... I'll keep looking for solutions, KORS has always been my home base for "flying" in the area, so it's a bit of a pain if you want to use the built-in ATC.
  8. Hi! I was wondering if any of you have run into an issue with comm frequencies at KORS (this happens both with and without Orbx's KORS installed). Only the AWOS is available, no CTAF. Instead, the frequency for Victoria Intl. (CYYJ) shows up when on the ground. I've tried removing all custom PNW scenery, but the problem persists.
  9. Have you tried enabling ray traced shadows? This option makes shadows much sharper without having to use extreme resolution settings.

That was actually part of the routine, see this video taken a week earlier in France.
  11. Actually, it's even worse with old-school segmented displays such as the typical BK or Narco units, the digits lag so badly that it's virtually impossible to set radio frequencies.
  12. While I'm a GA-only flyer, I recently encountered a similar issue at KTVL, with VRAM utilization pegged at the maximum and the sim essentially grinding to a halt at 1 FPS or similar. However, I tried the same spot in the latest SU3 beta and got much better results at the same settings, with significantly reduced VRAM utilization, so perhaps they are actively working on this...
  13. Ugh... this AI stuff is really getting out of hand... what were the bigwigs at the BBC thinking?
  14. Love your "flight report" threads, thanks for another stunner. Couldn't agree more 🙂
  15. Unfortunately, while 2WA1 used to be one of my favorite places in FSX/P3D (along with KORS), the MSFS 2020/2024 versions of the old Orbx airports have all been very disappointing so far. While it is true that MS have raised the standard when it comes to the surrounding terrain, most of these (lazy...) ports are in fact less detailed than their FSX versions, with missing clutter, generic runway/taxiway textures, etc. Even in the promo shots for Diamond Point 2024, you can see a lot of issues, such as the misaligned asphalt polygons in shots 3 & 4, the generic runway texture without any edge blending in shot 7, and so on...
  16. The ATC window actually got worse in recent betas, so I hope they're tinkering with it and may fix it at some point... Yeah, I know... BTW, don't try to expand/resize the menu, it will shrink from 3.5 to 2.5 lines then 😉
  17. Isn't ATC being overhauled at the moment? It is a "bit" of a mess, but there's some progress nonetheless. In the SU2 beta, I've noticed that the flow of the AI voices has been significantly improved, although there are still some pauses in the wrong places, lengthy delays between communications, etc. At the same time, the ATC menu is totally bugged for me. I can't seem to get more than two lines of choices to display at the same time, the logic gets stuck in "taxi to parking" mode, runway selection prior to announcing taxi does not work, and so on. With so much being broken, I assume there is a lot of work ongoing, so I'm cautiously optimistic, especially since WT have reportedly been tasked with improving this area of the sim.
  18. Hi Bill, The 5900X is not an X3D model, so it would actually be a downgrade for gaming/simming. According to the benchmarks I've seen, it is about 30% slower in MSFS than the 5800X3D. Best regards, Tym
  19. I might not be particularly old (50), and my level of grumpiness is not for me to judge, 😉 but I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment. It's actually quite weird that people want instant access to everything these days, and yet they are willing to spend 10 minutes watching an instructional video that shows you steps which can be explained in a few lines of text. The most annoying thing for me is that while written instructions allow you to search instantly for the relevant bit, video "tutorials" have you constantly hunting for that relevant bit on the time slider, causing you to waste a lot of time in the process. My favorite kind is those videos that show you simple config file edits, such as "replace the value X in file Y.cfg with value Z", where instead of getting that one-sentence instruction, you have to watch someone fumble around with folders on the desktop for five minutes...
  20. I had the same issue with the A2A Comanche a few days ago and used the same solution, so I can confirm it works.
  21. From my experience, the only scenario in which DLSS has an edge in terms of visual quality is when you are looking at mesh-like objects like airport fences or antenna arrays, trees (and in this case, only against the sky) or powerlines. Otherwise, TAA is much better, especially with glass cockpits. DLAA gives slightly less blurry displays than other DLSS modes, but it still suffers from the same "lag" that makes using input fields with flashing cursors in Garmin avionics a real PITA.
  22. With you 100%. I have no issue with devs including terminal interiors, etc. as long as they don't kill performance, but they really need to get the basics right first...
  23. For me, the latest hotfix update (1.4.9.0) has eliminated all crashes. Stable as a rock here, too.
  24. The latest update (1.4.9.0) seems to have fixed the long loading time. The GTN issue with the Comanche is still there, though.
