Still worried about the flight model ... how planes move

Featured Replies

People in every line of business want to make money, the kind of money that will make them rich or in a comfortable standard.

So the top line of products, thats to make the top seller/owner rich. They dont care if gpu vram costs 10 dollars per gigabyte, they will charge 10 times more. When we were in the Pentium II days of the nineties, 1mb of ram was sky rocket price. Because it was the top of the tech. The only way to make 8gb gpu cheaper is release volumes of 12, 16 and 32gb cards.

I am afraid of some default plane graphics. I saw the 747 and it looks funny, not the 747 as in real.

The atc also worries me. I ve seen its still annoying and repetitive, not even better than the actual Xplane11

I’m extremely worried about MS2020 in its current iteration.

It looks like it’s missing the following:

No Turbulence

Icing does not affect aircraft

Landings seem rigid and non realistic

No Landing gear compression or smoke

No crash physics

None of the default aircraft are even remotely close to study level and the closest on the horizon isn’t set to be released until next year.

How could any flight sim enthusiast hardcore or not even consider using this product seriously?

Don't know about FSX, but FlightGear (I think) and XP model a reduction in IAS during a sideslip, taking into account the fact that the pitot tube is not parallel to airflow.

But I presume you're talking about something more, like a significant drop or fluctuations of IAS? Maybe a bit related to this, but I think none of the major general purpose sims models IAS errors/corrections vs airspeed.

For example, when taking off in a C172, the airspeed needle sometimes "jumps" a bit around 40-50 as the airspeed comes alive, and any time the airplane encounters a gust, the airspeed needle will fluctuate significantly.

The A2A Commanche definitely shows a reduction of indicated airspeed in a sideslip when you do one in P3D. I was pretty sure it did, but I tested it earlier just to confirm it.

Yes, if anyone would model it, A2A definitely would.

I agree, and before anyone jumps on me 😁  - I am as excited for this sim as the next person. I also understand that these are default airliners and that they have to strike that difficult balance of keeping the (casual) airliner simmers happy AND the absolute newbies to the genre. I also want to say I have not been in any testing program for this sim, I've never touched it and so Im going off second hand "feelings" I get from YT vids.

While the light GA planes look good and "feel" fine the Airbus & B748 look and "feel" like toys. The sterile spotless showroom exterior of the Airbus especially makes it look like a plastic model. But that is just a simple eye candy issue and one that repainters will fix ASAP! My reply has to do with what looks like a lack of "heaviness" that comes across when watching vids of the 320 & 748 flying. They come across as a bit too sprightly.

With THAT out of the way I want to say that its nice that we are getting the A320NEO, specially since it has basic FMC functionality which is just right for casual airliner simmers. With the Queen being rapidly retired IRL when it comes to passenger operations I hope MS will give us a cargo B748 as those will stay in service for many many more years.

People are so dramatic in this community, it hasn't been released and there are threads who are already worried or disappointed 😥. Wait until its release and then we can talk again.

I can understand what you mean but the combination of excitement and our flightsim nerdiness/pickyness/worries means its not going to stop and will continue all the way to 23:59hr Aug 17th! 🙂

Sans landing gear compression / smoke, FSX had none of those out the box.

Look at P3D today.

It's unfair to buy a new house then complain that it's not furnished. The house is far better than any prior. Let PMDG, HiFi, ORBX, etc furnish it. You'll like it a lot more than your P3D house.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

Maybe you should try and find the answer to your own question yourself.

Why indeed old simmers, FS enthusiasts, the A2A, PMDG etc. crowd in a nutshell, are interested by FS20 ? Why Randazzo, Gentile and others high level dev say that the new sim opens new horizons to their company. Think a little about it.

Hint : we are not on MS payroll 😁  . Just sayin’.

We have all wanted a sim to where a lot of the work is offloaded to the GPU like most current AAA titles. We have that now and like clock work, we have people saying that we should put things back onto the cpu. Good grief.

'ashmatt7' maybe you missed the smiley there? I want no other than my brand new nVidia 3080 (still to be acquired) to smoke when it cranks every beautiful RGB pixel out of the sim! At the same time I won't watch the tail camera much, or outside view landings, until they're not a pain to the eyes anymore.

Call me Matt.

It looks like I did miss that. I wouldn't worry too much about the tail camera. The airplanes look good from the cockpit when moving around. I'm sure it will be ironed out.

Thanks for getting back Matt. Yeah, I think we're all in for a lot of fun. I just hope those 3000 series graphics cards don't taker too long to get on the market. I don't want to invest in a 2000 series at this moment in time.
