The oceans look sooo much better now!

Featured Replies

I love all the details they added to the water in this update. When flying over the ocean, you can finally see the white caps, and noticeable wave movements as well! The oceans don't appear calm all over the world like previously. And another thing that's really awesome is that you can see a lot of white caps near the shoreline when flying around islands! It looks absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. We just need AI ship and boat traffic now to make the oceans come alive even more!

Back when I was more into xplane, I remember a mod you could install that added worldwide boat traffic to the SIM, much like the current worldwide Airline traffic in msfs.

Something for the team to consider, if that data is still available.

The Global Ship Traffic AI for FSX/P3D is currently being worked on for MSFS. So hopefully we'll see that soon.

There is the Marine Traffic plugin for XP, but the ocean in general looks terrible.  They don't have any skills to implement realistic water shaders.

I just wished they had blended the rivers into the oceans. As it is now they still have the distinct dividing line showing after 3 patches.

white caps and wave movements have always been there from day 1, its just controlled by the wind how much waves there will be. In my own opinion i dont like the new look of the ocean in this update, but thats just me.

Indeed. The water, the reflections, the colours, everything is dreadful in X-Plane.

They changed the wind depiction on the ocean quite a lot. Before the newest update the white caps only started at insanely high wind speeds and there were long stretches of speed (like from 20 to 40 mph) were nothing changed. Now we get the white caps at more or less the right wind speed of 22mph or so and it is a much better gradient.

Yup, exactly. I definitely didn't see those details in the water prior to 1.9.30 patch and I fly around islands quite often. Even when I manually set the winds I still couldn't see much wave movement let alone white caps at all. They were non-existent for me.

Now they need to fix the water masks, Amazon river is blue instead of brown, Caribbean Islands sea is dark blue. Maldives, Seychelles, etc, all that needs to be fixed.

They are, but like most things in this sim, the world is a very large place. But for places where they have done the water masking, it looks absolutely beautiful! If you check out Kerama Airport in Okinawa Japan, you will see the beautiful water mask. Makes flying around islands and tropical places so immersive and breathtaking!

Yes, I thought initially the ocean didn't look as good but after flapping about for a bit I think it's a vast improvement.

Unfortunately, because water masks are out for the time being we also lost inshore evaporation pans, salt, potash and the wonderful colours resulting.

Call me silly, but I would love a bush plane I could fly to back lakes and get out and fish the waters. A sort of fishing simulator built right in!

Believe me, it's not just you. the ocean water textures look much worse with the latest patch, in particular, on mild weather settings starting from the clear skies. They just smacks of FS2004 water texture enhancement packs to me back in the day.

@sarp_79 Wow! You're in a good mood today. That's the second negative and obnoxious post, I've read from you in about 1 hour. 😮
