Bonanza Turbo V2 RELEASED

Featured Replies

I completely agree! The Turbonormalized Bonanza and the Working Title Team are amongst the very best things about MSFS!

Perhaps I should have said... the Dazzling Roberts and Ray and Bert!

Bert would love to contribute, but has been left behind on the technology curve.

Time for the younger talent to step up.. and they have! 🙂

I'm not sure about that Bert. You seem to find ways around things pretty well. And you are a lateral thinker. Your panel mods are/were brilliant.

Thank you! I still get a few requests each week.. but it is getting less 🙂

Speaking of tinkering does anyone have link to something that explains how to get both the default and the turbo mod in the selection screen at the same time.

Hello,

The Turbo Bonanza is the plane with the best flight model out there, its response to rudder and stall behaviour is wonderful !
So thanks a lot to Robert Young & all other modders (especially the WorkingTitle & G36 mod teams) that make this sim much more enjoyable.

However I've made same modifications to my installation to improve my experience:

  • The Turbo G36 wants to replace the non-Turbo one. I want both !
  • No "Lean" page on the G1000 for the Turbo
  • Can't start the Turbo G36 cold & dark with my Honeycomb Alpha Yoke

So I've installed the Turbo mod the following way and was able to fix all my issues. 🙂

*** Disclaimer : This is a temporary hack, as mods will evolve. Don't try this if you're not confident with tinkering MSFS files. This worked for me, I have no idea if it will work for you. I use the MS Store (Deluxe Premium) version of MSFS, v1.9.5 ***

The following procedure is an evolution of Kaosfere's procedure (thanks !) to keep the standard G36 and Turbo one separate.

* Make sure you have the latest G36 Mod by FrettFS and WorkingTitle G1000 mods installed in the Community folder. Make sure the G1000 mod is loaded first (I added "000-" in front of the G1000 directory name, that will do it). If you've already installed the Turbo mod, delete it from the Community folder.

* Go to the directory containing your 'Community' and 'Official' folders.  Inside `Offical\OneStore` live all the stock packages.  Copy `asobo-aircraft-bonanza-g36` from there, in its entirety, into `Community`. [Kaosfere got an error from Windows Security doing this, I didn't. If you do, zip the `asobo-aircraft-bonanza-g36` into a zip file then unzip it into `Community`.]

* Rename the "asobo-aircraft-bonanza-g36" directory (the one in the Community dir !) to "Bonanza-Turbo-V2".

* Open the Turbo mod's zip file, find the "Bonanza-Turbo-V2" in it and unzip it into Community, this will try to overwrite some stock files, allow it.

* Enter the Bonanza-Turbo-V2 directory and find the `SimObjects\Airplanes\Asobo_Bonanza_G36` directory.   Rename it to `Asobo_Bonanza_G36_Turbo`.

* Copy (not move !) the file Community\bonanza-g36-improvement-project\SimObjects\Airplanes\Asobo_Bonanza_G36\panel\WTEngineDisplay.xml into the Community\Bonanza-Turbo-V2\SimObjects\Airplanes\Asobo_Bonanza_G36_Turbo\panel\ directory

* *** Optional : for HoneyComb Alpha yoke users ***
In SimObjects\Airplanes\Asobo_Bonanza_G36_Turbo\engine.cfg, you'll see :
 normalized_starter_torque = 0.1 ; Starter torque factor
 starter_time = 1.8 ; Time the Starter stays active when pressed

These values are not compatible with the Honeycomb Alpha yoke starter key. The standard MSFS values are 0.3 and 1.5 respectively. But to fix it I only had to modify this one :
 normalized_starter_torque = 0.2 ; Starter torque factor

* Regenerate the layout.json file in the Bonanza-Turbo-V2 directory either manually (ewww) or using MSFSLayoutGenerator.exe. (https://github.com/HughesMDflyer4/MSFSLayoutGenerator)

Now :
- I have both the non-Turbo G36 and Turbo G36
- The Turbo G36 has a functional "Lean" page (the "System" page is present but non-functional as the standard and Turbo G36 have a completely different electrical system)
- I can start the Turbo G36 with my Honeycomb yoke starter key.

Of course, as synergy between teams improve, I hope this procedure will not be useful for long ... But for now it does the job.

Cheers,
Haddock

For the less adventurous... Use the Addons Linker app to either enable or disable the Turbo mod before starting up MSFS. 🙂

@Bert Pieke

Bert- I've been thinking about getting that app... my Community Folder is growing... how does it manage the folders for Orbx and FSDT- I broke FSDT the last time I tried to move them out before an update....

I have made my own walk through as normal for myself but if anyone would like a copy PM me your email.

I would upload it to AVSIM lib but I found it a pain in the as.

Robert is also going to add it to his mod when he has time.

I have the normal G36 improvement mod, and Robert Young's turbo model in the menu by following the above instructions.  They are both superb! 🙂

The instructions can look daunting at first, but you shouldn't be scarred-off by it.  It took me just two minutes, and that was taking it slowly, as care is needed.

It would be great if they could collaborate at some stage to make the ultimate G36 pack. 👍

Note: The only thing I couldn't get working properly was the engine tuning/mixture gauge not working in the RY turbo G36, but I think this is due to the loading order of the G1000 mod and I need to look at it.  I had the 'north up' option on it though, so the G1000 mod was at least partially loaded.

That's not the first time I've read about "loading order"... is that even "a thing" in MSFS, and HOW does one order the loading of the Community Folder?

It looks like mods are loaded in reverse alphabetical order by their name. I noticed that everything works correctly for me if I add" a_ " to the name of the G1000 mod (G3000) - "a_working_title_G1000*** "  and add the letter  " z_ " to the name of the mod of the aircraft itself -" z_bonanza***".

The reason it is a "thing" is later loading mods for the same aircraft can overwrite changes from earlier ones even if the later mod is changing a totally different characteristic.

And some other seeming remote mod, like a repaint, can screw up our primary mods.  The Working Group should be notified of any conflicts we discover, as they can dig into the dark corners and clean up the conflicts.

Thanks Nick!  That's the info I needed.  Will give that a go now. At SOME point I hope @Asobo releases a PDF manual for this sim!
