Save the 800$ & buy a 3080 now, and a 4080 in 18 months. What you're saying is the most sane approach to go about buying a video card. The thing is that there's really no option to buy the 3080 now unless it's from scalpers and then the 3090 isn't that far off in price plus you're not contributing to scalping problem. Right now there are $1400-$1500 3080s on the used market. Or there's a $2000 3090 brand new available. December 7, 20205 yr If your not running 4K you will see very little benefit in a new GPU as far as FPS is concerned, unless it`s for VRAM. Raymond Fry.
December 8, 20205 yr I had a 6800xt in my basket multiple times today direct from the AMD website shop, and every time when clicking the place order tab it said it couldn't ship to the UK, so frustrating. December 8, 20205 yr I also opted for a 3090 which I managed to buy at MSRP after trying for a couple of weeks. No chance to get a 3080. December 8, 20205 yr ...and usually you dont buy a 3090 just for MSFS, so many other apps and games out there who use the fastest card availible right now and if you are a VR nerd like me, this the best option, just wait for MSFS VR 😁
December 8, 20205 yr The 3090 for me in MSFS is brilliant. And with the big Navi flopping, I’m glad I got the 3090. More vram, and an extra 10% in flight sim can be all the difference. Plus, it’s not just about the FPS, this card makes things smooooooth.
December 9, 20205 yr I just upgraded from a 9900k and 2080ti to a 5900x and 3090. While there is a noticeable difference in performance in fs2020, it’s not as drastic as I thought and hoped it would be. 10fps maybe. 15 on a good day. I was really expecting more. Every other game saw drastic improvements though. Crysis remastered in particular went from barely playable to smooth at 5760x1080 on can it run crysis settings. I also play a lot of division 2 and it went from high 40s at the lowest frames to high 60s. Most of the time it’s in the 80s to 120fps maxed out. Big improvement on p3d5 too. Went from 19fps flying over Portland with most settings maxed using orbx addons to about 31fps. That in itself is a phenomenon. There really isn’t a scenario where the 5900x/3090 system doesn’t run circles around the 9900k/2080ti system even with lower clocks. For most of my flying it's ultra on everything, 8x8, render 100, LOD 200. I get into trouble depending on where I am and in what. Both GPU utilization and VRAM can hit maximum and then of course my vsync to 30hz goes down the tube. Often it's weather that can really kill performance so we stop and dial back volumetric cloud slider. Dense metropolitan areas can quickly become GPU bound in use and VRAM. And then there is the anticipated alleged DX-12 effect. So yes, I will see serious benefit from a 3090 or 3080 20Gb. December 9, 20205 yr For those considering 3090, it looks like a 3080Ti is in the works (the Reddit talk is it's for release 1st quarter 2021) https://videocardz.com/newz/manli-submits-geforce-rtx-3080-ti-rtx-3070-ti-rtx-3060-and-rtx-3050-to-eec Here in Aus, the 3080 is just starting to trickle back into stock. Got to be quick on the buy button. Average price is $1400 AUD Edited December 9, 20205 yr by dogmanbird
December 9, 20205 yr Strix 2080Ti OC running MFS well, slider settings adjustment helps, i so hope MFS VR is released December 23rd, then we can tell... (3080Ti with 20GB would be tempting when $prices settle)

December 9, 20205 yr ... and now Discord discussion is that there will be an $80 USD drop in price for 3090, 3080 and 3070 standard cards in Jan. though I'll believe when I see Edited December 9, 20205 yr by dogmanbird
