RTX3090, how would MSFS 2020 RUN?

Featured Replies

The BIG ? really will be what, and how much changes after the #3 update with CPU optimization. Until then this is chasing a moving target really. Once that update hits it will be game on for system specs.

Faster, yes.
But not impressive for MSFS.

It's interesting that the added cores and IPC of the new Ryzen 5950x does not outperform the 10900K in this test.  (Edit, I just noticed the top performers are OC intel chips - the Ryzen do outperform Intel at stock clocks).

But as we know, MSFS performance can vary wildly based on what you're doing, where you are, what aircraft you're in, and what the weather is so it's possible that different scenarios would flip the tables.

I'm really struggling with what to do with my situation... I'm often CPU (9700K) bound - especially in photogrammetry areas.  I've been thinking of getting a Ryzen 5900x but they are like unobtanium.  Perhaps I'm better off looking at the 10900K.

You will always be CPU bound, no solution for that until DX12 (perhaps)

Well, a faster CPU will give me better performance then. 🙂

High resolution = GPU has more effect. Find 1080p or lower.

Well I was thinking about waiting for the 6800 but unfortunately my panel is G-Sync only...

I would hope so... with a 10900K. Do you run 4K? Ultra? What FPS do you get flying around a photogrammetry based city?

do you use Process Lasso @captain420?

you have a top notch rig - & it helps all the Windows/apps CPU/OS optimisation,

works well - in the background - for me - & across all software.

& very easy to implement!

If you buy K Intel CPU and don`t OC it what`s the point of buying a K CPU cheaper to buy the none K.

I have decided to wait for the next generation GPU, I am actually very happy with the performance my 2080Ti gives me in 2K.

I am running MSFS on a 3840x2160 30Hz monitor, so 4K benchmarks are the only ones which are relevant for me.

that makes good sense, David

also relevant for the upcoming MFS VR deployment,

4K is real & what i use with 2080Ti - of interest, so far i have not switched between 4K 60/30Hz - the actual Steam MFS 4K performance in the majority of situations has been more than acceptable - & not plagued with stutters.

Yes I run the sim at 4K with Ultra Presets, both LOD sliders to 200. I haven't messed with overclocking yet because I want to see how well I can get the sim to run with vanilla settings first.

I don't use process lasso.

Flying around Manhattan, NYC at dawn/dusk/night with FBW A320NX I get around 30 to 40+ fps with the occasional dips into the 20s. Performance is smooth. I now fly without enabling the FPS counter in devmode which distracts me from flying. I can fully the enjoy the sim with all the bells and whistles even when the fps occasionally dips down into the 20s when in a heavy and intensive area such as NYC.

What's the point of a benchmark when playing @30Hz which pretty much every potato PC can handle?
