Fonzie says remove the dead zone to cure AP problems.

Featured Replies

The latest in 'tips' forum is to try removing all dead zones from controller sensitivities to cure some of the worst autopilot problems. Hmmm

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

So the autopilot uses your sensitivity settings ? How odd.  If you have more than one controller which one does it take its settings from ?

Interesting, I have a TH Warthog Hotas and I have never use any deadzone on any axis, and I have never had any autopilot problem.

System: I ASRock X670E | AMD 7800X3D | 64Gb DDR5 6000 | RTX 4090 | 2TB NVMe | Seasonic Vertex 1000W I LG Ultra Gear 34 UW I

I have used deadzones on all my controller and have not had an autopilot problem.

CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB
MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro |  GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K

I have used dead zones sometimes and didn't get problems with autopilot. Althought someimes I didn't use dead zones and did get problems. And vice versa.

Unfortunately there seems to be no Quality Control at all as to what gets accepted (and then locked) in the Tips and Tricks subforum ...

My story is I am lucky with my controller (no sloppyness).  I have dead zone set to only 1% on everything, and response curves at 50%.  I have never had any problems with autopilot either.

The thing some people have mentioned about having to set a 10% dead zone in the Airbus seems strange, and wouldn't feel good in normal / manual flight.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I have to up my dead zone to fix the AP off course problem.

I have my dead zones all at 100% and everything works as expected....

MSFS Alpha tester on W10 Pro x64. Hardware: AMD 5900X 12 core CPU. Cooler Master ML360R AIO, Asus X570-E mobo, Asus Strix 3090 24GB gfx card, G.Skill TridentZ 64GB (4x16) DDR4-3600 RAM, Samsung 970 250GB SSD (OS), Samsung 980 Pro 1TB M.2 pcie-4 NVMe SSD (MSFS install). EVGA 850w Gold cert PSU, CUK Continuum full ATX tower.  43" Sceptre 4K display. VR: HP Reverb G2.

This doesn't make any sense - having constant small control inputs from a slightly deflected controller is likely to cause problems with the AP (oddness with the PID integral term) then anything else.

Appropriate deadzones (slightly more than any noise or centering offset) are a good thing.  10% for no good reason also seem bad.

I did the dead zone adjustments as well as other suggestions. I still have a lot of autopilot problems.

OK, here's the scoop on Tips and Tricks.   They are use or do at your own risk.  If it helps someone to fix their problem....all the better!  If it does not work to fix your problem...move on!  There is NO discussion allowed in that forum.
