January 29, 20215 yr What is that black line going along the road in that second London screenshot? I hope that’s an artifact that’s rectified before release.

If you read between the lines when they talked about branching code then there will be an inevitable delay. I hope I'm wrong,we'll see. Branching in itself should not cause a delay. Branching and merging is an every day development task facilitating multiple developers working in similar areas of code. I do it all the time at work. If we are talking complexity of their changes and the testing effort, that's something else. www.supertrafficboard.com

I mean, it‘s obviously a spectacular airport, but since there‘s no sand surface nor tides in the sim (yet), I wonder if it‘s that great to land there now. 4 hours ago, superspud said: Expectations are riding ridiculously high on the official forums for some people. I think they're going to be sad when it hits. Better autogen and sorting the coastlines would be good enough for me. Anything else is a bonus I learnt my lesson with the US update. I‘m sure Snowdonia, the Lake District and the mountains in Scotland are going to look much better. I‘m also looking forward to the new procedural buildings and especially the churches, but I don‘t expect a quantum leap. Having seen the screenshots of Canary Wharf and a video on Bluesky‘s website I‘m a bit sceptical with regard to the quality of the photogrammetry. I hope I‘m wrong and it‘s just because of the low resolution of the images and because it‘s not finished yet. It looks like it‘s not finished yet. As they said, they‘re still working on the integration of the photogrammetry data. There are also quite a few buildings missing. I have to admit I‘ve seen better photogrammetry. The round building on the right in the top image looks rather odd. But the good news is that the data seems to be quite recent. i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2
January 29, 20215 yr I am actually hyped that they fixed the save and load feature in simconnect so it means now the auto save feature in FSUPIC will work 😀 AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 64GB DDR5 6000MHZ RAM, RX7900XT, FreeSync 165hz 1440p display
January 29, 20215 yr It really is incredible the way Orbx has managed to adapt to the new paradigm and thrive. When MSFS was announced, they'd recently devoted most of their development resources to the True Earth series. It was a bold bet that photoreal scenery with autogen was the future. They were exactly right, but then MSFS came along, doing it infinitely better out of the box. It could have been the beginning of the end for Orbx, who made the right call at the right time but then had their lunch eaten. Instead, Orbx quickly reoriented, bet big on MSFS, and hasn't looked back. Maybe a lesson here for some other developers who have been a little less nimble? James

There's a sand surface for concrete that looks pretty good, certainly doesn't it sound it. I couldn't figure out how to get patches of water. I've noticed the sim REALLY doesn't like beaches. Almost everywhere I've looked at has been at high tide. I was referring to Out Skerries as the weird choice. Here is it in all its glory. I added a picnic table to it as I couldn't think of a single thing else.
January 29, 20215 yr I don't mind another few days of delay for the UK Update, if it's required. But I find it really disturbing that they tied "Spikes Removal" to this update. This is a serious bug which was introduced more than a month ago, and the fact that most forum users use the community workaround relying on an old dataset does not free them from correcting it as soon as possible. The same goes for the water flowing upwards on coastlines, where I am not even clear they intend to cure this. January 29, 20215 yr @superspud I have many of your airports:) Does this mean that with MSFS handcrafted ones, your scenery will have to be removed? January 29, 20215 yr I would expect so. They're designed to work with the existing version, not a new one. For certain mods like Shetland it'll be a doss. All I'll have to do is delete all the terrain fixes and there'll still be plenty of improvements. For others like Liverpool I expect there'll still be aspects of mine that are better, Asobo usually skimp on the proper detail, but it'll all get so mixed up with their own improvements it'll be very hard to untangle. I might rebuild places like that around the new version or I might decide it's not worth bothering. Either way I'll have an extremely busy few days which I intend to bill them for. Where they usually don't deliver is stepping beyond the bounds of the airfield, they often give up before they've even left, so Land's End and Barton are the ones I'm most interested in checking out.
January 29, 20215 yr @superspud will you be putting out amendments through 'flightsim.to' as and when? January 29, 20215 yr Yes. That's my go to portal. Liverpool is the only one I'd consider properly building around again, if there's a reason so, but I'll see if Barra can be added to. Shetland will take a few minutes to update. Land's End and Barton will remain separate downloads and people can simply not download the Asobo version. That's if they remain better of course.
