X-Plane users surpass Microsoft Flight Simulator...

Featured Replies

Again, so much is how we want to present ourselves and form the community, there aren't really any right answers here (other than communities that become overly aggressive towards new users have a long track record of festering and eventually vanishing)

We are in a new era, "The king is dead, long live the king" once in a generation type stuff, this time round we are the old wise men......

You can say what you want, doesn't make it particulary wise. It does make it 100% elitism, just like as of late we are used to on Avsim.

New people are always welcome, without new people this is all gonna end pretty soon. And we all started with nothing, no particular knowledge, no particular skills in aviation, perhaps even used to how planes behaved in movies (which aren't exactly a good representation, in general). If you don't want to deal with them, nobody is forcing you.

There is a difference between not knowing anything, but being smart about it and not knowing anything, but being dumb about it. This starts with a blatant disregard for basic othography, continues with utter inability to do even basic research on the subject before asking and culminates in the expressed expectation to receive a reply within hours.

Just to clarify - would the be questions in the X-Plane forums, or just all the forums in general?

... from a redundant flight simmer who plays with planes in FSX:SE..

My attitude is rooted in having spent 12 years with FSX. Go figure.

Asking questions is fine, but there is due diligince to be paid by the new users. I think it is rude to wade into any community, spam the most basic questions and expect to be spoonfed how things work instead of reading up and at least trying to figure out things.

...

In addition, and I may be a bit of a dinosaur in that regard, but if someone (language barrier considered) fails at the most basic levels of orthography or writing intelligible sentences...I can´t help but form a certain mental picture of that person 🤐

So much this.

Its the questions that were already answered 50 times in the thread, readme, documentation and about 5 minutes ago that sends him roaming the tinterweb pipes with a frying pan.

If I had moderator/admin rights on Discord, the channel would be a whole lot emptier.

Before you judge new users for asking a question, please think of how you'd feel entering a new community and wanting to be involved. Don't judge, it was you once. If the new user is simply trolling then that's normally fairly obvious.

Really wanting to get involved is usually done with questions that are a viable basis for a discussion and not ten seconds of furious typing and blindly hitting "Send".

I think it is important for X-Plane to wait until the novelty of MSFS has worn off a bit more so the community is receptive for news about other flightsimulators.

How is the novelty going to wear off when graphs are pointing up. They get about 20 new add-ons a week. Already up to 795 products available or in development right now. They release frequent patches and content updates. They keep users informed.  They have sold millions already and similar coming for xbox version. X Plane is taking a good old beating right now. And there's nothing but crickets!

I am here because I am a paying customer of XP and own many awesome XP add-ons, payware and freeware. I will hold all devs accountable for their products, code and bugs.

In that case, I certainly hope you're holding Asobo accountable for the countless bugs in their product.

That was certainly true on release but most have been fixed. I do not experience countless bugs? I suppose it really depends on what you define as a bug as opposed to an omission or simply something in need of improvement. Like the cockpit shadows in XP for example.

Here we go again.  You all just can't help yourselves.  Not even going to bother, because I have better things to do than engage in debates about CHOICE.

I'm gonna step in between your love hate triangle for a second, and try and be the voice of reason.

To say, there is absolutely nothing wrong here, its truly fantastic, shadows, perf, flight model, scenery all verging on perfection.

This, besides performance needing (a good chunk of) work, absolutely breathtaking - truly wow material to leave any other simulator (including MSFS - at least for now) in the dust, I can never go back to 2D, If you have only ever seen 2D you cannot appreciate what I'm saying, because the best I can do is a screenshot, its like trying to explain the mono lisa to someone by showing them a picture of her left eye (identical settings to above)

This, on the other hand, is a steaming pile of words developers use to describe computers, its been an issue for like the entire duration of XP11, and we shouldn't dismiss it as OK (or mis represent it as a "cockpit shadows" problem) or stand back and forgive it as long as XP11 has life in it.

About the only way I can share how frustrating that is, is to share a video of a day in the life of an average Microsoft windows user

Pitchforks? Puny weapons.  😀 If you criticise X-plane and fail to bow low to its Dear Leader may God have mercy on your soul.😂

Naah, X-Plane community is always aware of X-Plane shortcomings. It's just when trolls from MFS come here that they get rightfully spanked.
