June 4, 20215 yr Author Bob, that's a good point... BUT. There is always a but. I have all that with P3D. I love it. BUT... at the end of the day, the CORE is not what "Sim X" can offer. Cause THAT core is modern. All this other stuff may not be available right now, but... it's coming. At least, in my experience, the major holdback was aircraft. Well, now "Sim X" is starting to slowly get there with aircraft. That is one major advantage of P3D slowly evaporating in terms of fresh development. GSX? Honestly? I bought it 2 weeks ago. Both levels. It told me that on half the flights I tried, the parking space I was in is too small for the aircraft, so no services are available. This week I uninstalled it. I don't care about money, but it's not something I want to keep using. To be honest, I see the ground services in "Sim X" to be less annoying and intrusive than GSX. So now what do we have? AS! I LOVE that I can request weather report at my destination airport so that when I am flying my newly purchased Sharklet FSLabs Airbus, I can stick that info into my PERF page... I can't do that with "Sim X"... For how long though? And is THAT a huge deal to keep 300GB of data on my SSDs? The reason I bring back the CORE sim is because the lack of any info from LM is giving less and less reasons to some of us to stick around. THAT is unfortunate. Because "Sim X" sure is better in some aspects and currently has the favor of developers. "Sim X" offers more out of the box than P3D ever did. So, again... forgetting Google Maps etc... is it possible for it to come up sufficiently enough to become relevant again? Just on autogen and Orbx whatever? And EA? Water? "Sim X" doesn't have water effects RIGHT NOW... but in a year? It will... Then what? When A2A comes and brings their stuff, what does P3D have to offer that "Sim X" can't?

June 4, 20215 yr Author Tony, I have a comfortable living I make in my career as an oncologist/hematologist. This comes at a price I wouldn't wish upon anyone. THAT price can't be undone. It's going home every day knowing that a lot of your patients are going to die. If I can have a hobby that can somewhat alleviate that pain, I am happy to spend whatever percentage of my income on it. But again, this isn't something that I would envy. There are lots of things in this life that money can't buy. For most people I encounter EVERY DAY, they wish they could have a remedy money could solve. I wish I could have a remedy to not feel like rubbish every time another patient passes away. Wanna trade places? I'd gladly be the pensioner with limited income. Hell, I MAY just become one in a few years... all depends on how much my nerves can take.

June 4, 20215 yr A ridicules post. Don’t confuse LM with the lone guy in the back office that has the part time position of running the flight simmer program. LM probably have forgotten all about him years ago. And could care less. They make airplanes and weapons. The lone programmer in the back offices main focus is getting EA to perform a little better in the upcoming hot fix. That’s it.

One of the allures of GSX was the jetway replacement. I suppose it just wasn't important enough. I also fly GA as much as I do airliners. For GA, A2A offers their own power unit on the ground. Most of the airliners I fly do as well. It just seemed redundant and not really all that great for me. I just don't find it to be as important as most others do - most of my focus is on aircraft systems. I just don't bother with ground services all that much. Even in MSFS, I rarely request baggage/service/etc... it seems a bit of a time-hog to me. Basically, I wrote it off as a purchase I didn't really need to make - unfortunately after the fact. But oh well... It's a good product for those who find it useful, so I don't mind that my money went to support the development and effort put into it. It's obviously very well-done... just not for me. Please don't be offended. 🙂

I feel that way, anyway, about quite a few add-ons. I dislike them initially (Chaseplane), but then love them longtime later. The only thing I tried, and kept trying, to like -- and not liking -- was TrackIR. I just have never gotten into it despite my many attempts to like it. In all honesty, at least for tubeliner flying, I'm not at all convinced that the "modern" (whatever that means) core is going to be functionally better for flight modelling than the tried and true parametric approximations that we've been using for some time. P3D is considered good enough for use as a professional-grade training tool in militaries around the world, to include the USAF. I think that in itself is testament to the continued viability of the ESP flight model that so often is excoriated simply because it is older. It remains quite relevant as a training tool...less so in its arcade appeal. I've said it a bunch of times here...I don't believe we are, or ever have been LM's target market. It's no shock to me that they don't have a PR dept dedicated to keeping us retail simmers fed and happy--the customers they're focused on buy P3D as a tiny piece of a much bigger package that includes aircraft purchases that run in the tens and hundreds of millions of dollars, and the logistics tail & training environments needed to support them. Knowing that, I'm grateful that we're allowed to ride the coattails of that kind of operation, as it can take a hit when economic times are tough and is much better positioned for long-term sustainability than any gaming enterprise. I think it's well-positioned for the long run despite retail-level interest that's currently waning in the presence of the new kid in town. Hat's off to you on your chosen profession...my sister was a palliative care nurse. I didn't really understand the world she lived in until GBM turned the tables on her and she suddenly swapped roles from caregiver to patient. June 4, 20215 yr I´m little surprised no one mentioned fluency in P3D V5.1. I gotta say I have one modest PC. For flying am usually using GSX, PF3, MCE, sometimes SLC, AS, Navigraph and UTL. Most of the time I am flying Aerosoft Airbus Prof. or Dash-8 (but this one is very easy on fps). I only use addon airports. I´ve never had more fluent experience before. No stutters, very fluent. If I fire up MSFS with FBW A320, MCE, PF3, SLC and Navigraph - it is far from fluent. Very stuttery. Also some textures are very blurry from higher altitudes. I feel that paradigm in flight simulation is shifting. I see lot of arguments why you should use P3D over MSFS and vice versa. For me I run MSFS on medium settings. And I feel it really drags me like I have been flying - with GA I get quite good performance. But on the other hand you dont get correct ATIS with weather addon (maybe with default weather too). In era without MSFS I wanted to have as possible "simulation" as it can get the way it suits me - MCE, PF3, AS.... . And now sometimes I have to talk mysefl to let those things as wrong ATIS go, same with not accurate live weather. But than - wow, that GA flying is really looking and feels good. So question is: was that much "level of simulation" needed even before? MSFS served us something different. It forces me to think about flightsim differently - maybe more relaxed gamey way. Let some of my habits go. And this is really challanging me - change :). Now - P3DV5.1 brings me much fluent experience with tubeliners. And this I really cant find with my PC on MSFS. So it might not look the nicest, but it runs fluently and stable on my modest PC. Finally after all these years for me in flighsim. Now choose which one to fly? 🙂 Someome mentioned here that it has always been that P3D don´t communicate. So what is the problem now? I think that the answe "We have always done that way" prevents us from going from horses to cars. Times are changing, thinkinking is changing.
