Microsoft/Asobo proved they're pandering to console users

I honestly fail to understand why the LOD popping seems to be such a big issue for people. It's literally 0.5 - 1 second of scenery loading. Seems to me as extreme nitpicking.

Would you rather have absolute perfect visuals at 19fps? Or sacrifice some micro-LOD popping for 40+ fps?

For most people, the choice is very easy.

I think most would. I've seen countless videos of maxed out settings running like trash. I'd rather have my sim settings on med-high and have it running smooth. You cant even tell the difference unless you really look for it

I think most of the negativety here in Avsim as well in the MSFS forum is the idea now, the "hard core simmers" are flying side by side what they they call them "gamers" and these issues like popup or whatever issues, many excuses to vent themselves on Asobo and Microsoft. Anyway folks, get over that. If you don't like to be shared with Xbox simmers, just move back to P3D/XP or adopt yourselves to the new reality (which is actually not bad).

Anyway, my personal opinion on SU5, personally I am very happy about the performance optimizations, the popup thing I barely see it due to the LOD 4.0 that I see. The only thing that is annoying, if you switch the views very aggressively, it will stutter a bit due to loading the autogen at the new view, I hope this can be smoothed out in the future but overall, very good update !

I don't understand this either why people pop their loads ( Ha ha) over a bit of LOD popping, especially if the latter means an improvement in performance.

Yeah people want a super duper graphics with a monster like MSFS but with aging PCs, never understood this lol

To me it seems that there is some frustration for a vocal minority that a £450 console runs 'their' sim just as well as their £4500 rig. I think that is underlying much of the moaning.

Unified development for X-Box plus PC was on the base of MSFS from the beginning. You - or whoever - may like this or not but, as some others already mentioned, we wouldn't have MSFS at all without this approach. It just wouldn't be profitable. MS may introduce a few PC-specific features but will never leave the common code-base.

I think we better leave the elitist point of view that only users with a 3000+$ graphics card, a multitude of peripherals, and flying "study-level" planes exclusively being "true simmers". Them alone would never be able to keep our hobby alive, prospering and profitable over the long run.

Personally, I have been simming for more than 30 years now (since FS4), and I like the fresh look and approach of the MSFS UI, even though I don't intend to switch to an X-Box right now.

Kind regards, Michael

Spot on, Michael.

It's quite simple: if it isn't released on consoles, it's not going to be released at all. In other words, it's the XBox that keeps our hobby going over the long run.

This is one of the reasons why a lot of people don't have anything good to say about Avsim 😞

To all who complains about pop-ins, stuttering and bad lod distance, change both lod to 4 in user.cfg, it solved the problem completely for me at a cost of 5fps, which is less than I earned on SU5.

Actually I don't want to see the flight simulator dumbed down so much that people don't have to learn anything about realistic flying.  I am not a pilot IRL but I do enjoy learning about realistic flght simming.  I doubt many flight schools are jumping up and down to buy xboxes and controllers to train their students.  But who knows it's 2021 and anythings possible.

This is one of the reasons why a lot of people don't have anything good to say about Avsim 😞

When people don't have anything good to say about Avsim, they are making a sweeping generalisation based off the perceived behaviour of some moaners they may have seen on here, whom we all know exist, as being representative of all Avsim, which they most definitely are not. Needless to say really, sweeping generalisations are almost always just a lot of incorrect prejudiced confirmation bias based on something like that, which would possibly also mean when people criticise Avsim in this way, it's frequently a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Back on the topic at hand, as some have noted, going to XBox was always the plan for MS and was largely the reason there even is a PC version of the sim at all, and so anyone who genuinely thinks 'Microsoft/Asobo proved they're pandering to console users' has not only missed the point, they're not even aware there was a point, let alone missed it.

There are some things one can legitimately complain about in regard to MSFS, for example the fact that an update is completely mandatory, or that it is put out in a massive unwieldy single block many Gigabytes in size, forcing users to spend literally hours downloading data they already have just because a two kilobyte line of code in it has changed, or that some of their patches appear to have not been well tested prior to release. These are things which were/are bad about how MSFS is handled as a product and are without doubt, terrible ways to do things and even worse ways to treat paying customers, so they do indeed richly deserve criticism. But complaining about the sim being available for a console, or tweaked to suit it working well on one, is indeed the definition of being a boring old elitist flight sim snob, and as far as the advancement of flight sims and related stuff is concerned, that is about as welcome as a hole in a lifeboat. Fortunately, not all at Avsim subscribe to that opinion.

Totally agree. I think from now on, the serious testing will be on X box, and not PCs. If it works fine on Xbox, it's good to go.

I can absolutely promise you that’s not the case.

I see more moaning about the 'moaners' lately, which adds even more to the general air of negativity, but these people doing it don't seem to get it.

I have lost count of the amount of time I have seen the words 'whingers' or 'whinging' lately, but the guys using these words just don't see what they are doing (or maybe they do ).

Why cant people let other people have opinions without shooting them down and belittling them all of the time?

Now look, this has caused another negative post from me!  😆

If they do not like Avsim members they  should rather go to the haven of peace, positivity and cheerfulness that is the MSFS official forum 😈 !  .

Because the statemenht "Microsoft and Asobo are pandering to console users show a breathtaking level of ignorance about the PC/Console market development over the past 15 years or so.

Simple as that.
