Looking for bush flying recommendations?

Hey all,

I've never been a bush flyer in FS (been simming since 2003). I've always been a point to point GA or Airline flyer.  But having seen the Juan Browne videos on YouTube, I fancy trying some bush flying, in small aircraft like the cubs or Aviat (rather than for example, Caravan and larger bush work).

Can anyone recommend either;-

  • Some regions, areas, airfields in the vanilla sim, or
  • Some payware or freeware mods that provide a suitable bush flying arena?

I've been looking at the Okavango Delta package in the Marketplace, which looks superb, but before I pull the trigger, I wanted to get some advice from you wonderful people. 😃

As many have mentioned, Idaho has a big network of backcountry strips and the Idaho Transportation Department maintains procedures for many of these airports and they also publish an app for iPad and Android that has all this info as well...
https://itd.idaho.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Airport-Facilities-Directory.pdf

https://itd.idaho.gov/aero/

The facilities directory has dozens of strips and details procedures for getting into/out of the strips. Use this for real world flying and can make trying to operate at the strips in the sim much more enjoyable as well.

There's a ton of these strips done up pretty nice on flightsim.to as well if you find a few you like, do a search and you'll probably find improved versions.

Did you give some of the default bush trips a shot? The early ones are quite good and varied in my opinion.

A payware alternative that I have really enjoyed:

Let us know!

If I can add a million to that! All three of Michael's Bush Trips are GOLD! Highly recommended!

Make no mistake, there are many good free- and payware addons but the vanilla sim has a lot to offer for bush flying.

Another example for my « bush methodology or how to find a landing which will use up your adrenalin for a day» 😁. Oregon, between Baker City and 7OR0 Minam Lodge, a small strip on a 349° MH from KBKE, on the outskirts of the  Wallowa Mountains. Short flight, a lot of flight profile management.

Simming since 1981 -  [email protected] GHz with 16 GB of RAM and a 1080 with 8 GB VRAM running a 27" @ 2560*1440 - Windows 10 - Warthog HOTAS - MFG pedals - MSFS Standard version with Steam

NeoFly, and select Bush in the missions, you will discover how full of undiscovered and unknown small grass etc. airports it is all full. Europe is full.

+1 to the recommendation for New Zealand

Since I started exploring this paradise, it has only been GA flights for me, I will move my simulator life to NZ and I am currently looking for my upcoming home base in the country, but it will not be an easy choice as there is so many beautiful places.

Just dropping by to thank you all, for the fantastic suggestions - I've been checking them all out and wow, there is some fantastic content!  I'm not a fan of the native MSFS bush trips as I'm lazy and want my GPS and Map to be working properly in flights 😄 .... but I love the pre-planned flight plans available, and am currently in the middle of a "Wild West" tour, courtesy of @johnbow72 👍

I tried NeoFly yesterday and whilst I loved it, I found I was getting huge stutters while flying with the NeoFly app running in the background.  When I closed it, the stutters vanished.  I googled this and found similar reports for the latest version - I believe the team are working on it.

Thanks again!

This site is an absolute GOLD MINE find for me!   Love it. This is what I prefer to the native "Bush trips" ; just great flight plans, between fields I would have never thought to have visit.  And there are lots on there - fantastic, thanks!

That's indeed nasty, but can be overcome. I load the attached flighplans into an external GPS (FS-FlightControl or Little Navmap) on my networked computer -  and voila, I'm GPS-flying again (don't tell Asobo, otherwise they will block this 😉).

Besides, the bush trips have a few nasty bugs. From time to time a leg starts at midnight - not that proper for VFR bush flying. And sometimes the Navlog ist empty. Both can be overcome by tricks, though (see the official forum).

Kind regards Michael

Agree , nice flight ideas. The Amelia Earhart world tour looks interesting

Papua New Guinea is the BOMB! I have done north America and don't care for it much, most strips are at sea level or as low as can be given the terrain (ie mountain base, river). PNG has elevation changes up the wazoo, unpredictable winds-weather, every strip seems to be a completely new and beautiful challenge. And for some strange unknown reason it is extremely well depicted.

Excellent You Tube channel ---> https://www.youtube.com/c/MissionarybushPilot

--- Any similar geographic suggestions would be greatly appreciated ----
