What happens when MSFS goes EOL?

I meant MS Flight not Flight One. MS Flight was shut down 5 months after it was started ( 2-2012 to 7-2012) , and many people including myself got stuck paying for add ons even up to the day the plug was pulled on it.

Ah I understand now!

Maybe it'll move to subscription at some point

It's already subscription. Its called Gamepass.......

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

Well, I figure I used FSX for maybe a year. I then moved to P3D (v2) and stuck with that up to v5, over a period of maybe 5 years. During that time I discovered XP and had both P10 and 11, and got in to that for maybe the last 3 years. I bought a lot of stuff for all those sims and not much of it is going to get used any more.

Who knows what might have come along in another 10 (9?) years time. By that point we might all be looking at the next big thing and getting ready to put all this on the shelf anyway.

And anyway, enjoy it while it's here. I fully accept that I might be buying stuff that I can't use in ten years time. That pretty much applies to everything in life.

Ten years is a healthy amount of time. It may well carry on after that. Byut we may not care.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

Since many MS services are subscription now, that wouldn't surprise me at all.

I agree with this.  I have said before that this version is essentially a tech demonstrator for Azure.  I personally think that this will go subscription in 24-36 months.

For those of us in our mid-70s (and you know who you are out there), this is absolutely the last thing they would worry about. If I'm here when it happens ten years from now, I'll have a glass of champagne and toast to the good health of all concerned.

Cheers.

I just turned 81, and I am delighted with the way that MSFS 2020 looks right now. Couldn't ask for anything better.

I know EOL is a good few years away but what happens when Microsoft shutdown the servers?

I've still got a shortcut for P3D V5.1. + RTSS hidden away in a folder on my desktop..  There is a nice RV7A waiting there for me.. 😉

Who knows if we will even have a livable planet in 10 years.

If we do and tech still exists, it will not be anything like today. Hopefully not a RoadWarrier type future, back to the stone age with super tornadoes and hurricanes.

3D glasses that interact with your location etc., if things work out more optimistically, or something like it will make computers a thing of the past. Everything may be biological/digital hybrid. And sensory feedback in VR.

Bottom line enjoy what you have now or be bummed or exited about the future, it is up to you.

Lets just sim on as we go. Me I am about to jump into the F14 for a mach 2 flight. Enjoy...

Maybe by that time we'll have SSD's in the size of Petabytes and petabit internet connections where we can just download all that data onto our local machines and not have to worry about them shutting there servers. That would be nice.

That’s a good point. Whose to say we would even need petabytes then, what if it can be squeezed down to gigabytes. The point being there’s endless possibilities I doubt will need to worry about this… Am sure the big concern will be us all living on boats due to global warming an avoiding Skynet drones.

Non-issue really. If you buy an addon today you are worried it might not work in 10 years time? Will you even want to use it then? I  am sure I will be bored of the addon by then. Other better simulators may be around in future or certainly better technology so may not even want to use MSFS. I remember how worried people were when MSFS stopped at FSX. It was the end of the flightsim world! Here we are 15 years later and things have never been better.

I can't see the ortho support going away as that uses bing maps. If bing goes away, then yeah.

Honestly, i won't worry about it too much.

Something like this is out of our control.

As long as there is an interest to MSFS, there will be money to be made.

If Asobo says is is a 10 year on going development, chances are it might keep going as long as these might be a subscription based service to keep the mapping/server going.

Azure cloud is not going anywhere and could services is still in its infancy.

10 Year is a long time to worried about, a lot of things can happen.

So enjoy the sim and put your worries away.

Buy whatever you think it is wisely, as the default sceneries has a lot to offer, especially with the freeware community.
