This is the best state MSFS has ever been in

Despite having a machine capable of all ultras, I've stuck to "high" settings, save one, for the past entire year of updates. The only one I used "ultra" was for clouds. So, after SU5 and now 6, I've been getting FPS in the mid 40's, inside and out of the FBWA320 at whatever current dev mode is available. Cloud settings for live weather, so lately on the west coast between Seattle and San Diego, scattered at most.

So I thought yesterday, let's try everything on Ultra. So I did. Gosh, a drop to the very high 30's in FPS. I flew FBWA320 about the Los Angeles basin, a VERY challenging area in the past by the way. No stutters! Smooth as glass but with ultra visuals at those high 30's. Yes, I'd say MSFS is in very good shape ... at the moment anyway. I'm very happy with it.

In its current state it is the greatest flight simulator available to the general public in the history of the known universe.

It’s definitely better than X-Plane, P3D, and all previous versions of MSFS.

Some of the military combat simulators are pretty nice, but as far as civilian flight, there really isn’t another game in town any better.

Yes, it's so smooth now!

Generally? Perhaps

All I can say is I've settled for MS2020, I probably won't even bother paying for another simulator, with the recent WU6 update, most settings in ultra (no live traffic), frames locked @ 30 and with my not_so_new pc, I'm having a blast. KUDOS to Asobo for their hard work, even with its minor quirks, this sim has it all and will get better in time.

It's come a long way since its release (at least in terms of scenery in this area):

We are definitely getting there. But we've got at least another year of development in front of us to get this to a polished state. But this is headed in the right direction, no doubt.

Maybe we are all actually living inside the sim and don't know it.

For the first time, I have no appetite to fiddle with the settings any more.

Everything is just how I want it (apart from the odd bug of course).

So I would say yes.  With the SU5 optimisations and now the new customisation settings, it is in the best shape it has ever been in.  The bugs will get fixed.

PS.  Meant to say the G1000NXi is also adding to this feeling of general improvement.  I still think those guys don't get enough credit.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

To me, it's always been headed in the right direction even thru its various fits and spurts.  It's just a massive effort that takes time to fully develop that's been obvious from day 1.  What is very polished today, and it is by far the biggest piece to get right be it on console or PC:  the core scenery engine.  The rest, the SDK, fine-tuning flight models, and even the weather to a considerable degree, are smaller pieces to have to get to a fully developed state.  It makes me feel good to finally hear so many positive comments for a change to help offset the litany of hysterical reactions when things aren't perfect, or go back a step or two.  It must be so hard for project managers and individual programmers who pour their hearts out to code something well to tune into some of the threads here full of 90% derogatory unappreciative comments about the people running the show and producing the product at Asobo.
