September 9, 20214 yr So I had originally intended to leave the new "Off screen precache" setting on Medium, but obviously had to have a little play with it. Oddly, I found that setting it to Low resulted in absolutely awful, stuttery performance (as a result of very high off-screen precaching). I then tried High and noticed that my performance seemed around the same as it had been on Medium but with smoother performance. I finally tried Ultra and was amazed to see FPS did not drop and the sim was as buttery smooth as I've ever seen it. BTW, this is with a humble i7 4790k 3.8Ghz, and a GTX 1080. So..... better performance in Ultra than in Low for this setting. Anyone else seen anything like this? What it suggests to me, is that the whole architecture of off-screen precaching may just not be effective in the program. Theoretically, there should be benefits to not loading 360 degrees of scenery in..... but perhaps the caching process of loading it in while turning your view just leads to worse stuttering. (Worth pointing out I'm a TrackIR user, so my head turns, from a rendering perspective, are very fast. I'm not complaining at all - I'm just amazed to be running on Ultra with no off-screen shenanigans, and getting better performance that on Low! September 9, 20214 yr I suspect that LOW would only be a benefit if you have something crazy like an old school 1050TI with only 4GB of VRAM .

September 10, 20214 yr Isn't this new option meant for "panning" reasons only? It is my understanding (I may be terribly wrong, though) that when one (I) only uses a view out of the front of the cockpit, this new option should only have little to none effect. I so far haven't seen any performance improvement (i.e. higher fps) when using any of the new settings. I only see a way smoother panning (in the rare cases that I do pan around 🙂 ) when I use the ultra setting. Can any of you shed some light on this matter for me, please? Or is it best I just stick to my current setting (medium) and leave the other options alone? Thanks. Until the add the missing slider in the next hotfix, you can enable ultra in VR by manually editing the userconfig.opt file. Terrain LOD: 170 Object LOD: 170 Res: 1920x1080 Render Scaling: 130 Most other settings are a 50:50 mix between High and Medium. I have no Low settings, other than Depth of Field (which I actually have OFF rather than Low - hate that effect!). ... I should add that I could drive higher settings than these and still comfortably get 30-35 FPS, but with TrackIR I find there really is a significant smoothness uplift, when you get above 40 FPS. With the above settings, I'm normally somewhere between 45 - 65 FPS, depending on scenery and aircraft complexity/intensiveness. Really amazing visuals and performance for an old i7 4790 and a GTX 1080 (standard, non-Ti) ! 😎 Edited September 10, 20214 yr by JYW Bill 😎FS2024 • Currently in 'GA mode' : A2A Comanche 2024 & Aerostar • Black Square C208, Bonanzas, Barons, TBM850, Dukes • COWS DA40 & DA42 • FSW Legacy, C24R Sierra & C414 • Echo Falco F8L • FFX HJET, Visionjet and P180 2024 • Got Friends A32 Vixxen • FSReborn Sirius TL3000, Sting S4 and Piper M500 • Flyboy Rans S6S • Skyward DA50RG • SWS Zenith CH701, RV-8, RV-10, RV-14, PC12 • Milviz C310R • Air Foil Labs Bristell B23 TrackIR • BeyondATC • PMS GTN Payware • RealTurb • Axis & Ohs • FS Realistic Pro9800X3D • RTX 3080 • 64GB DDR5-6000NPPL licence holder in the UK
