Four things that make me very happy in MSFS

Featured Replies

Weather
Adobo (etc) have clearly burnt the midnight oil since release to improve the real-world weather. It is consistently on the mark, and their ability to accurately portray cloud cover – and fog, including accurately placed isolated patches – is remarkable. Little hidden valleys have different (and in my experience realistic) temperatures and wind strengths and directions. Buffeting has improved a lot since launch and flying in the lee of a ridge line with a moderate breeze keeps you focused.

FW P149
It's just brilliant. Makes me happy every time I fly it. Months after release (and an on-the-spur buy which I did not expect to enjoy) I still haul it out and fly often. Great flight every single time.

H145
I dismissed the much-discussed pay-us-now-while-we-build-a-bigger-H135 model of the developers. I watched the YouTube videos and paid little attention to the 3D model (which always looks good in a 3D app and, besides, a few dollars buys a nice looking 3D model off a commercial site ... so really no big deal). But the lead dev sounded professional, the videos were well thought out, well put together. This I took as a sign of their approach. I'd love a high-fidelity H135 so I somewhat reluctantly (FOMO!) paid for the early access long before release. We are only on Beta 2, then two more variants of the H145 will follow afterward, and all I can say is I love it. Considering the constraints with heli flight in MSFS this is really, really good. I think it's well worth the money, and I mean it is in it's current state (not to mention the other goodies that will follow). Fly it often, love it every time. And the modelling is extremely good (and cannot even begin to be compared to their free H135).

Milviz Pilatus Porter
I have the Corsair, and as we all know that has been well received (justifiably). I resisted the Porter because of the mandatory default G1000 statement. I bought it on a whim and ran it without removing my install of the G1000 NXi. Handlfying only, a few numbers were off etc but here's the thing: it feels like a PC-6. I've added the PMS GTN 750 mod which makes a huge difference (AP!). My preference in MSFS is small and light aircraft and I love bush flying. While we wait for a DH Beaver the Porter is just epic in every sense. I want it to work fully with the G1000 NXi avionics, I want it to save my preferences for seats and external tanks and I want the prop disc to not look like a vinyl record. But this I can live with for a few weeks ... the Porter is without a shadow of a doubt in my top 3 favourites (and I have quite a few add-on aircraft to compare it against).

I am not doing a 1 to 4 as I can only agree with everything that has already been said by everybody else up to now, and I find it hard to choose 4 out of probably 20+ individual aircraft and other things I like about the sim.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Almost thou persuadest me to reinstall. Thinketh I shall.

1. DC-6

I don't know maybe

Replay, flybies, and advanced animations in the future.

  1. Visuals! A year and more later, and I am still/often amazed. Far different from the underwhelm-ment I felt the last few years in legacy sims.
  2. Performance Did I mention I am amazed?
  3. Freeware Community See above.
  4. Pace of progress Despite the complaints, I don't think we have ever seen a sim explode and blossom this fast. I expect amazing things.
We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.
