Which version to buy

Featured Replies

Going to finally buy MSFS2020.  Got new computer.  Card did not have 30380 so he just put in 1 1080  Eventually when stock starts coming in will change

Should I get the Deluxe version or premium version of 2020

The current versions we have now are being discontinued in favor of the "Game of the Year Edition" that is releasing on November 18.

Is it done yet? When will it be released? Will it be freeware or payware? How much will it cost? Any updates on the progress? Will it work for Xbox? Can I be a beta tester? How's the performance in VR?

So will this version include all the things that were in the Premium version, or will they be dropped/

Bob,

Your question lead me to some research and all I found was this:

“Microsoft Flight Simulator Game of the Year Edition will be available as a free update for existing players on PC and Xbox Series X|S

MSFS

That's what I thought, it was just an update.

Why not Standard?

Bert

The standard version works just fine and is a bargain if you already have an xbox game pass.

Specs: 11900K (5ghz), 64GB ram 3600mhz, RTX 3080 ti

I got the impression from the OP that he thought the Deluxe Edition was more demanding on a computer than the Standard Edition and that the Premium Deluxe Edition was more demanding still. That's why he provided the details of his new computer build. The answer to his question, of course, is that the settings you choose, rather than the version you buy, determine how well the sim will run on given hardware. The version differences are simply in the number of aircraft and custom airports rather than performance demands.

Processor: Intel i9-13900KF 5.8GHz 24-Core, Graphics Processor: Nvidia RTX 4090 24GB GDDR6, System Memory: 64GB High Performance DDR5 SDRAM 5600MHz, Operating System: Windows 11 Home Edition, Motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX, LGA 1700, CPU Cooling: Corsair H100i Elite 240mm Liquid Cooling, RGB and LCD Display, Chassis Fans: Corsair Low Decibel, Addressable RGB Fans, Power Supply: Corsair HX1000i Fully Modular Ultra-Low-Noise Platinum ATX 1000 Watt, Primary Storage: 2TB Samsung Gen 4 NVMe SSD, Secondary Storage: 1TB Samsung Gen 4 NVMe SSD, VR Headset: Meta Quest 2, Primary Display: SONY 4K Bravia 75-inch, 2nd Display: SONY 4K Bravia 43-inch, 3rd Display: Vizio 28-inch, 1920x1080. Controller: Xbox Controller attached to PC via USB.

The deluxe and premium versions simply have more aircraft and hand made airports.

SO ...

  • if you actually use most of the new aircraft or fly to most of those airports it is a bargain - just a few dollars per aircraft/airport
  • if however you rarely fly any of them it is a waste of money

TLDR - the answer depends on whether YOU are likely to actually fly the aircraft in the upgraded versions, People on forums telling you it is good value or a waste of money is irrelevant

Here is a list of what aircraft are included in each version:

https://www.polygon.com/microsoft-flight-simulator-guide/21403173/all-planes-list-get-new-planes-standard-deluxe-premium

For what its worth, personally I fly the Beechcraft Baron, Steam Gauge Cessna 172 from the Deluxe and the Cirrus SR22, Pipistrel Virus and Cessna Longitude from the Premium Deluxe a fair bit so for me the full version was well worth it.

Game of the Year version is not really a new or separate version!   It is basically new content coming to all three of the current versions.  Just get Premium version it is worth it.

The way I read and understood it, the current "standard" version will be replaced with the new Game of the Year version.  The Deluxe and Premium will remain.  For everyone who has purchased the existing version, this includes the Deluxe an Premium users, as the standard version is included, will get a free upgrade.

Congrats on the new computer! That's awesome.

On the different versions, the only differences are how many various airplanes and complex airports that are included (as far as I know).
You'll have to check the various versions for what content you really want or need.
There's a new update coming that is adding a bunch of new planes, but that update will be free for everyone regardless of version.

On the technical side there's no difference between the versions.
And there's a ton of freeware and payware addons and mods out there, so even if you don't buy the most expensive version, there's a lot of good content to find out there for free. Check out flightsim.to

AMD Ryzen R9 9950X3D | Asus Astral RTX 5080 OC | 32 GB DDR5 6000 CL30 | 3440x1440 G-Sync | Logitech Pro Throttles Rudder Yoke Panels | Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS | TrackIR 5 | Oculus Rift S

I would go for the Premium version.

I have seen a lot of user wanting to upgrade because the eventualy miss out on some planes or airports.

I cant remember ever seeing somebody (with valid reasons) who wants to downgrade.

You have already highly invested in a new PC. I think this should not be a question for few bucks , as you mentioned 🙂
