Hi all,

Been away for a couple of years ,and lost touch with new releases as my old pc would have struggled  with MSF. Used to run fsx but new pc arriving soon that  should run MSFS in high detail

What  are the must buy aircraft add on s ?  I used to love A2A ,spitfire,Cessna,COTS , Majestic  Dash 8 ,Real Air Duke and LANCAIR LEGACY. Aerosoft Twin Otter.

The Just Flight Hawk looks like a good purchase. Any other recommendations to start my research?

Thanks for any help

 Cheers

Steve

Not payware , but since you mentioned RealAir, I'd recommend the Rob Young (of RealAir) Beechcraft Bonanza mod.  Well there are actually two Bonanza mods, both are good, Rob Young's is for a turbo variant, whereas the other mod is for the normally-aspirated one.

As for payware, you did do well mentioning the JustFlight Hawk.  I also like the JustFlight Arrow III/IV, and others speak well of the JustFlight Warrior, but I don't own that one.  I'm waiting for their Piper Tomahawk.

There is a good free mod to the default Cessna152, by JPLogistics.  I recommend it.

MilViz has their PC-6 Porter out, it's really good.

FlyByWire has modded the default A320 to the point where --pardon the hyperbole -- it's really a new airplane.

WorkingTitle have modded the default Cessna Citation CJ4 similarly.

There are some other aircraft, like the Piaggio P.149 and there is a nice little Nieuport 17 as well.  No Dash8 and no Twin Otter yet.

I quite like the FW P149, but frankly, the default aircraft can be made to fly nicely.

So, before spending money on addon aircraft, have a look at Rob Youngs Turbo Bonanza with the G1000NXi to get you started..

Thanks for the quick reply. Looking forward to getting back into it.  Just checked it was 2017 since I last put any real time into fsx , and I thought it was 2 years.  !!

The Just Flight Pipers are great, I prefer the Warrior myself, the C-152 with JPLogistics enhancement mod is really great also.

Get the PMDG DC6. Is the gold standard of MSFS aircraft.

JustFlight Hawk is fantastic for those low and fast flights. The Arrows are great for GA. The Caproni C22 light jet is very cheap, and lots of fun. Wait a bit and the Milviz 310 should come out, and the Aerosoft Otter. I too miss the Turbine Duke and the Lancair... and of course A2A but I gave up on them.

Ahhh you listed many of favorites too....  Unfortunately none of the high fidelity planes really exist yet - sim is too new imo.  Probably the most in depth since you listed COTS, is the PMDG DC-6.  Aerosoft IS making a DHC6 for this sim.  Rob Young has released a really lovely modification of the default G36 Bonanza that you'll need for sure.  No Lancair Legacy yet but there is a RV14 in the works.  No great twins yet.  Milviz is working on the 310, Flysimware is working on a C414.  Carenado put out some lite but fairly enjoyable products...  (again you just need to keep your expectations real with those lol).  Just Flight released their set of Arrows and Warrior I think.  I've got the Turbo Arrow - pretty decent - honestly I don't fly it as much as Rob's Bonanza though.

Most importantly you'll want the free G1000 NXi (in the in-sim marketplace), WT's G3000, CJ4, and G3X mods: https://www.workingtitle.aero/

Oh, forgot about Just Flight's recently released BAe Hawk - people are enjoying it - but I've not yet purchased it.  It may be the best jet simulation to date.

A2A has been sort of general in their replies to users asking if/when - they seem to have some hurdle to overcome in regards to Accusim.  At one point they were bringing their Aerostar to MSFS but you may have heard Scott had to make an emergency gear up landing and they no longer own that aircraft.  I was bummed to hear about the gear up and also that it wouldn't be coming to the sim.  (Though I vaguely recall Scott mentioning it may someday come because they did grab a lot of videos and data on their flights).

Majestic?  No clue about them.  I saw on Facebook they had supported the FlyJSim XP11 Q400 recent release.  I'm not sure if they had a hand in it or what.

PMDG?  They claim they'll have a 737 for us end of this year.  Hope we see it!

Heard of Fenix Simulations?  They have a crazily detailed A320 coming out - not sure when either.

If you want to avoid spending money and just get comfortable with the sim, checkout these freeware mods/planes:

C700 Longitude (again works best with G3000 mod above): https://flightsim.to/file/3655/asobo-cessna-citation-longitude-flight-dynamics-modifications-project-version-1-0

C152 JPL mod: https://flightsim.to/file/2246/msfs-c152-community

TBM mod: https://flightsim.to/file/8288/tbm930-improvement-mod

R44 helicopter (this one is a WIP like most of these freeware mods but is super nice) https://flightsim.to/file/20566/robinson-r44-raven-ii-helicopter-project

H135 heli (they've got a payware 145 which fairs well in reviews) https://flightsim.to/file/8970/airbus-h135-helicopter-project

I fly this a lot, the GotGravel Vertigo (it's kinda fake but fun - maybe similar to Mike Patey's turboprop Lancair Legacy) https://flightsim.to/file/13052/vertigo-turbo-prop-racer

And checkout his Savage Gravel for bush flying fun https://flightsim.to/file/5061/savage-grravel-monster-truck-in-the-skies

This Van's RV7 just came out yesterday....  fairly basic but the author is working on it constantly I guess - uses the G1000 Nxi (the most capable in-sim avionics at the moment) https://flightsim.to/file/23192/van-s-rv-7

You'll notice I posted those links....  checkout that site as its probably the best one for addons.

Oh almost forgot....in case you do get the airliner itch....FBW A32X is free and pretty dang nice: https://flybywiresim.com/a32nx/

Good luck!

Ryan, I would think the premiere free add on would easily be the Working Title CJ4. It is to corporate jets what Robert Young’s Turbo Bonanza is to complex singles. The mod is up to date in all respects - avionics, navigation, power management and flight dynamics and a true pleasure to fly. Oh, did I mention it comes with comprehensive documentation and an extensive collection of YouTube videos. Be sure to visit and browse the WT discord.

All these mods make these planes desirable, but, you need the basic Asobo model installed for them to work. There are tons of repaints available for all of them and good freeware scenery upgrades for flying them in all parts of the world.

Overall a very comprehensive collection for anyone and everyone. A few light years ahead of FSX. The key to success is the active involvement of these teams working day and night for free for our enjoyment. Many, if not most of these devs, are eminently qualified to do the sort of mods necessary to fix the generally broken and crippled designs we have purchased as deluxe or premium models.

Aa you mentioned, www.flightsim.to is the place to go for MSFS add ons. A well organized website with an extensive collection of mods with almost daily updates.  You have to revisit the site often to stay up to date.

The Reno Air Race collection package should also be a kick in the butt and tons of fun and enjoyment, whether you actually race or not. This adds 4 premium planes to the mix and all come with a full package of repaints. Payware of course.

I would add the Sofly Flight Simulator Guide - Extened Edition might be the most Bang for the Buck for any new or returning flight simmer. The number of settings and individual choices available in MSFS can be intimidating and confusing and the Sofly Guide gives one a road map for success.  It is only available online in PDF form and requires quality time to read all the pages, but is constantly revised and up to date with all the updates and changes.

This is a very good time for flight simming indeed.

Ray

I mentioned WT at the very beginning of my post.  I believe their G1000 NXi is slightly superior in terms of navigation but yes the CJ4 is I, I guess, more complete aircraft.  And it's free like you say.
