@Bdub22 maybe this to pass the time, not sure if it will be 100% matching with the MSFS version but probably very close. That dude certainly made some extraodinary documents (can't imagine the time it took) --> https://www.mudspike.com/chucks-guides-p3d-leonardo-md-82-maddog/

Thank you thank you thank you!! This is exactly what I was looking for and will make this flight go by quicker. Flying KEWR-KLAX and its the first time on a 787-10. What a beautiful plane, inside and out. So comfortable right now.

Of those who have flown this aircraft on FSX/P3D is it easy to fly for a 737 pilot?

It is more complex only because the real life aircraft is a bit more complex compared to a 737 (PMDG). Talking from a simmer perspective of course having flown both extensively.

In terms of flight, the Maddog is definitely less forgiving because it is aerodynamically slippery and with those smaller wings and longer body the turns and the climb/descent profile need careful handling or she gets ahead of you and messes your progress. The 737 is more forgiving.

Also the autoflight of the Maddog is more complex with many options on the panel. Overall I think the number of options are the same as the 737 but the way they are laid out I always felt they confused me.

Easy for a 737 pilot? I guess??? Depends on how deep you were into the “study level” 737’s. At the end of the day it’s an airliner doing airliner ops so that part sure. The FMS and ap have its own logic. Plane is way more analog in all aspects than the NG. Demands a bit more from the pilot in actual flying it.

I guess it was personal opinion. I just found the 737 more forgiving and easier to master and keep up to date with checklists. The Maddog I always found I had to do extra steps and had to be more diligent with checklists.

Actually, it is really a quirk of flightsimming. In real life a maddog pilot would not be swapping around and flying a 737 all the time so he would master the aircraft. RW pilots loved the Maddog but they named it Maddog for a reason...

According to my friend who flown both MD-82 and 737NG IRL, MD-82 is harder to fly, but more fun!

Because it resembled the F104 Starfighter 🙂

I'm not sure about that. But MD-80 cockpit voice resembles  computer voice from original Star Trek 🙂

"Bitching Betty" is one of the things that annoyed me about the TFDi Design Boeing 717, and I suspect that it would be the same with this plane.

Ok so let's get some flavour for the aircraft, a feel for it in flight, a taster of what she sounds like and...a bit of Sam Chui's excellent video's this time on a trip from Dubai to Nairobi via Mogadishu and with a couple of other wayward stops in between The first two sectors from Dubai to Mogadishu are flown on an MD80 ex Alitalia and the last two sectors on a DC-9 -32 ex Iberian Airlines.

Africa milk runs are fairly rudimentary and some of the passengers don't seem too keen on cameras in their face...looking at you Sam 🙂

The Captain of the MD80 is from Venezuela and he gives a run down on some the Alitalia mods to the MD80. Listen for the bells and look for the lights on the flight deck, and wonder, why that DC-9's master caution is flashing......?🤔 .  Again, some interesting airframes just sitting out there in the desert.
