Fenix and performance

I'm getting great performance flying the Fenix Airbus. Below is what gives me a solid 30 FPS the entire flight regardless of the scenery, weather or AI models around me. Maybe this will help others. I use to set my Sony 43in 4K TV to 30hz for the longest time.  That is what I have used in P3D for years. Now I run it at native 60hz and make my adjustments else where. My TV does not have G-Synch so this is not a key to my settings. Something new I have done is turn on my Integrated GPU which for me is the Intel UHD Graphics 630, so the Fenix A320 displays can run off of it and leave the rest of MSFS2020 running off my 3090. I tried the other Render Displays On in the Fenix App but my FPS would flux slightly. Except for the Fenix, nothing else uses the Integrated GPU so when I'm flying planes like the PMDG the IGPU load is 0%. My GPU load for my 3090 will range from 50% to 99% depending on the scenario.

I know some of you are looking for as many FPS as possible but I find 30FPS in SIM is very smooth. When I fly with others online they will report stutters and pauses as there frame rate fluctuate while I have a smooth experience and my FPS remain a solid 30. Maybe my settings will help someone out.

My Settings are as followed:

Nvidia Control Panel I only change Power management mode to Prefer maximum performance.

In MSFS2020 I leave V-Synch ON and changed Frame Rate Limit from default 60 to 30

I've loaded up at Chicago Midway Airport (KMDW) which is a VRAM hog but my 3090 can handle it with no problems. Most other times my VRAM is between 8mb -  10mb depending on the aircraft, scenery and weather.

I got excited reading this until I noticed you have one of the fastest PC setups available on the market today.  Honestly I would fully expect you to be able to get consistent 30 fps if locked to this rate with this system.  On my box I am locked at 30 and am worried that I will in mid teens at best and probably single digits with AIG and JFK.  The FBW product flirts around 25 ish in this scenario.  I wish I could find more info from users more in PC range vs top end systems shown here.  Good info from you anyways, thanks.

CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB

If you set displays to "performance" and to GPU, you'll have FBW-like performance, even slightly better, in my opinion. That will get you through the heaviest of situations; also you can always tone down terrain LOD in those situations or reduce AIG traffic percentage. I do have a 5600x and a 1080ti, and can get 23 FPS at KFJK with 100% AIG traffic (= about 200 AI aircraft in the area), all graphics on ultra, terrain LOD 200, and displays on "quality". So there's easily enough headroom to go up to 30 FPS, if I wanted to. Mostly I just quickly change displays to "balanced" and am fine (takes 1 second and I change it back on cruise).

Are you telling me that the highest settings of the Fenix has less FPS than the FBW?

I don't understand your question. "Performance" is the lowest setting.

Why post all this detailed information but not your screen resolution which majorly impacts FPS? 🙄

yeah sorry. 4K with settings high/ultra. terrain level of detail 200.

I was mainly intrigued that the mainthread timing was substantially lower on the posted pics, then on my setup.

The 2080 Super is no weak card by any means

In 2022, it’s a weak card. RTX3000 series cards are nearly two years old and they’re top of the line.

But it's still a 2000 series card. I feel like calling them weak cards is like calling the MD-80 weak when there are people out there flying a Piper Cub in the Vegas summer.

Some people don't even have a 1000 series card and are enjoying MSFS. It's all relative.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

I watched a lot of videos on YT regarding the Fenix A320, and I didn't see one with smooth and fluid fps. Stutters all the way, notwithstanding the lock at 30 fps with rtx 3080 and above videoboards,

YouTube videos aren't the best source, since the recording software often adds stutters. 320SimPilot, for eg, always says this - "Any stutters are from my recording software, I don't see them".

On my machine (5600x, 3080Ti, 32GB, NVME), I can easily run at 4K Ultra with no stutters. My fps varies from 28 (at the very heaviest payware airports with lots of traffic) to 50 (in cruise), and most of the time I'm averaging 35fps and it's perfectly smooth and playable.

The generation is actually not particularly relevant here these days. The 2080 Super is actually slightly faster than a 3060Ti, and definitely no slouch of a card.

Please take a look at this my FBW A320 video, autoland at EGLL, ultra settings. This is a good example to show a smoother simulation, and YT can show it.

Man, that is so good to hear! I was fretting about getting a new card and upping from the 2080 Super to a 3090...but means a whole new world of hurt as new Mobo needed, PSU, the card itself and all the time needed to reinstall everything... ill stick with what i have i think!

Yes, don't upgrade now. Wait for the 40x0 series which should be out later this year. In general it doesn't make sense to upgrade every generation, unless you have a specific reason or have lots of money. Two generations is where you see the real improvements.

And in many of the videos, the host explained that streaming the video caused performance issues which is quite common. The Fenix runs smooth as silk on my not very expensive PC locked at 30 FPS.

I'm surprised with the Fenix A320 performance on my PC. Seeing so many people with PC's with excellent specs complaining about performance, I thought Fenix would run like a slideshow on my PC.

My specs: Ryzen 5 1600 AF, RX 570 4GB, 16GB RAM

It's important to note that these specs are below Fenix's minimum requirements and even so, I'm getting between 31-34 FPS, on medium-high settings. This is exactly the same performance I get on the FBW A32NX dev version and a little less than I get on the PMDG 737, around 35 FPS.

The only adjustments I made were changing the display quality from quality to performance and the livery resolution from 8K to 4K. Other than that, I haven't changed anything at all.
