Fenix and performance

Featured Replies

For what it's worth, just flew the VATSIM event into Miami with a lot of aircraft around me, had 27 FPS on the ground with the Fenix. That was after 3h of flight. With displays set to quality. I'm not gonna complain!

Hey Guys,

I have been following the various threads regarding performance with interest as I am still sitting on the fence but getting closer to buying this every hour lol

I recall in a few of the videos I have seen that there are a ton of liveries included some are even at 8K, Could this be one of the reasons that some of you are having poor performance? I know I had some really high res liveries for the FBW A32NX that I downloaded and I used paintdotnet to resize them all to 2K and while you can barely tell from viewing externally it did help performance.

Just a thought,

Richard

For Nvidia users, turning on Vsync and locking FPS via Nvidia control Panel (and OFF in the sim), will give higher performance and increased smoothness than using those two settings in MSFS.   There are many technical articles online demonstrating that MSFS's vsync algorithm is very resource-intensive.

This is because MSFS uses a 'full fat' Vsync process, where Nvidia has a 'Fast' Vsync setting that uses 75% less CPU cycles but (to mine and others' eyes) looks just as good.   So Vsync off in the sim, frames unlocked in the sim, and Vsync set to "fast" in Nvidia Control Panel, and frames locked (I used 36) in there too is the way to go for most people.

Thanks much nice setting - vc looks better

I downloaded the Delta livery and realized it was 8K, went back and they had a 4K version, which I have now. It looks fine.

I am unsure how exactly this should hurt performance. Due to VRAM? You have a 1080ti just like me, this should be no problem.

I don’t have the plane, but that’s a weak card, so, I would suspect it’s that.

The 2080 Super is no weak card by any means. It’s last gen but still an upper tier card capable of running MSFS in 4k with decent graphic settings. I don’t have the Fenix but it looks like it’s much more important to have a blazing fast CPU. Last gen CPU probably won’t cut it. The latest update seems to balance that out, though by putting more load on the GPU from what I can read.
I only have a Ryzen 9 3900 and no integrated GPU on my motherboard unfortunately. So I can probably forget about running the Fenix with decent fps. My 2080S is my least concern.

Yeah, I second this. Made a big difference for me when I switched to NVCP a couple of months ago.

Whilst I haven't bought the Fenix (yet) this is exactly how I've set my sim up but locked at 30.  I have an old system i7 4790k, 1070, 16GB @1080P and I get mostly 30 FPS and smooth unless I'm running AIG with slider over 50%.

Will give this a try, I normally use 25HZ/25FPS but using MSFS Vsync.

Why would 36fps be a good spot to lock FPS if you have 30HZ (which i assume they have) ?

If i go with VSYNC in the NVCP should i lock FPS at 26-27 ?

Thanks

Speak for yourself!

I get random drops to the low twenties (which causes micro stutters) with everything on "High", terrain at 100, at 2k with FPS locked on 30.

This is with AI traffic "On" as I refuse to fly with it "OFF"!

This is with an i9-9900k OC at 4.9, with a 2080 Super and 32 ram on an Nvme drive...

Would love to know how the hell people are getting 30+ consistent FPS!

I have a 5900x +3080 and still can barley squeek out smooth 30FPS.  Your system will probably struggle a bit in both departments.

Hey Just tried this to see if it works, even though the in sim 30FPS vsynch works great.  Your method caused me terrible stutters so im going back to what works on my system. cheers

Just tried this with NCP set to fast vsync and 27 fps but it stutters when moving like a constant. Doesnt see this in MSFS vsync mode.

What can i try ?

Thanks

I have a worse 5600x with a worse 1080ti and get 30 FPS everywhere on the ground (unless I use a lot of AIG traffic and/or am in New York / LA / London etc.), LOD 200. And I have displays set to quality.
How about some context? You cannot squeek out 30 FPS in the middle of nowhere at 38000 feet with terrain LOD 100? I don't think so. You cannot squeet out 30 FPS at inibuilds EGLL with 200 AI traffic and LOD 400? Yes, but that's hardly on the Fenix. So without any other other basic information such statements are not of much help.

settings high LOD 200. I can get 45-50 FPS that stutters, what good is that?  thats why for me, smooth 30FPS is better then a stutters mess 45/50.

there really seems to be smtg. wrong on my end..

Every time i start a flight and it is loaded the fenix is cold and dark but EFB is not actibvating and it is not possible to get the plane out of sleep. I need to reset it every time via the Fenix app.....

Anyone of you experience this too ?

Carsten U

I'm getting great performance flying the Fenix Airbus. Below is what gives me a solid 30 FPS the entire flight regardless of the scenery, weather or AI models around me. Maybe this will help others. I use to set my Sony 43in 4K TV to 30hz for the longest time.  That is what I have used in P3D for years. Now I run it at native 60hz and make my adjustments else where. My TV does not have G-Synch so this is not a key to my settings. Something new I have done is turn on my Integrated GPU which for me is the Intel UHD Graphics 630, so the Fenix A320 displays can run off of it and leave the rest of MSFS2020 running off my 3090. I tried the other Render Displays On in the Fenix App but my FPS would flux slightly. Except for the Fenix, nothing else uses the Integrated GPU so when I'm flying planes like the PMDG the IGPU load is 0%. My GPU load for my 3090 will range from 50% to 99% depending on the scenario.

I know some of you are looking for as many FPS as possible but I find 30FPS in SIM is very smooth. When I fly with others online they will report stutters and pauses as there frame rate fluctuate while I have a smooth experience and my FPS remain a solid 30. Maybe my settings will help someone out.

My Settings are as followed:

Nvidia Control Panel I only change Power management mode to Prefer maximum performance.

LlEdbZa.png

In MSFS2020 I leave V-Synch ON and changed Frame Rate Limit from default 60 to 30

VBGUHcb.png

I've loaded up at Chicago Midway Airport (KMDW) which is a VRAM hog but my 3090 can handle it with no problems. Most other times my VRAM is between 8mb -  10mb depending on the aircraft, scenery and weather.
