Sim Update 10 beta is out!

That shimmering effect is something you notice (and are annoyed by) when it's there, but you don't consciously pay attention to when it's absent. Before SU10 I was using DX11. Now, with SU10, I'm using DX12. I don't know whether DX12 might account for this improvement.

I'm using DX 11 and no DLSS (my GTX1660 Super doesn't support it) and not noticing the shimmering. Guess something was changed with this SU10 beta regarding that aspect.

Yes. The UserCfg has two fields, one for regular settings and one for VR.

Ok 👍🏽

I never liked FSX / P3D WX addons and promise that I'll never buy one for MSFS.

Too expensive.  Should have been part of the base sim.

"Added new parameters to [FLIGHT_TUNING] section to control the static friction at high speeds and set how sticky the wheels should behave when rolling at higher speeds. These parameters are not used yet on any aircraft"

Strange terminology.  Shouldn't that be rolling friction?  I thought static friction is when you need to add that bit of extra power to get the aircraft rolling when it has been stationary.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

Just as a test, I rolled back the beta to SU9: it was awful.

SU9 had more shimmer, more stutter, far less fps, and for some odd reason everything looked pale and wan.

So I reinstalled SU 10 beta just now: FPS jumped up so much I can lock at 50% Monitor Refresh Rate (SU 10 beta) instead of 33% Monitor Refresh Rate (SU9). And that was without DLSS nor DX 12 turned on. And zero stutters, zero shimmer and the scenery just  'snaps' and looks better at the very same Graphics settings.

The only downside is slightly more degrees C in the CPU as displayed on Core Temp.

(I don't get those artifacts either in hours and hours of flight. Except once right at first. I stopped overclocking cpu and never saw another. Who knows, maybe heat caused that one artifact).

Your appreciation of SU 10 may vary.

May I ask how you performed the roll back?

I have the steam version. Went to Library , right clicked on FlightSim, selected Properties, Beta, chose None. Immediately the small 200 Mb file downloaded. Then selected Start for MSFS. It opened and ran after Searching for Updates DL a bit more (a few GB). That was easy.

To get back to the WU 10 beta after a rollback, you redo the steps above and chose the beta instead of None. But now it couldn't update to the beta. So I had to 'verify MSFS in Steam. This means a complete reinstall of MSFS including everything ever  received thru the marketplace.

Summary: Going forward the first time to the beta from SU9 is really quick. And later on proceeding to the released version from the beta has been quick in the past with other betas.

But going back to beta after rolling back is very tedious (hours to do). So I would not roll back.

Thanks - so not a task to be taken lightly. Fortunately, I don't have a pressing need to roll back, was just curious as to the process. Regards.

It's due to better multithreading. It's not a downside, it's what we have been asking for the last 15 years! 🙂

I had a need, sort of, "The only downside is slightly more degrees C in the CPU as displayed on Core Temp."

I don't have much headroom in cpu temps and wondered if the temps were less in WU9 compared to the beta. Turned out they are. But not by much, 3 degrees or so (in my case 81 vs 84C in New York City). It's in the 70's elsewhere in heavy scenery including Iniscene Heathrow. My water cooler may be deteriorating again. I replaced it 10 months ago when this was happening before.

Your water cooler is likely completely intact. Your CPU is just working more. That is a good(!) thing.

More work on the CPU means it generates more heat. That's what CPUs do. Use power to calculate stuff and generate heat as a byproduct.

I hope so. My Prime day stash was spent on a cpu and gpu. (But nothing all that expensive. Ryzen 5 5600X $175 and RTX 3070 $555 (not the Ti because I only have a 600 watt Gold power supply). (Would have totaled about $1300 a year ago).

Don't oc the 5600X. Open up the max power consumption, but don't fiddle with the core clock. Optimizing your fan/pump curve might also improve things.

I have a 5600x and the Arctic (cheap) water cooler and I never even reach 70 degrees Celsius while running at the advertised 4,65 GHz under load
