PMDG 737-600 released

Just bought and installed the 736. Loaded up the SWA colors... luv the old colors. N--I--C--E.  This is the first PMDG aircraft I have bought since I picked up a 747 for FSX in a bargain bin for $19.99, ha!  Sure a lot has changed since then  😄.   Hope will see some fun liveries (real or not), Alaska, AirCal (snuck that one in), Aloha, Mexicana and America West to name a few.  It's gonna be fun.

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

If you do not care about BBJ or cargo versions, then get the 600. Unbeatable value at this price.

I was sitting on the fence about this one and then I thought why pay probably over double the price in CDN$ for the 800. I brought it this morning and have been having a blast all day. When you are looking out of the cockpit window it doesn't matter if it is a 600, 700, 800 or 900. A high fidelity addon is far more important to me and this checks all the boxes for a 737.

The last PMDG product I purchased was the 777 for FSX at nearly $100, the 737 - 600 is a real steal at just over $40. I actually think it is one of the cheapest addons I have purchased in my flight sim history!

Like Christopher said if you are not worried about the BBJ or Cargo versions and you want a great 737 for MSFS this is hard to beat.

I just want to add that since buying this yesterday it has been an absolute blast. The last PMDG products I owned were way back in FSX and purchased about 14 years ago. MSFS feels like a new simulator now. Such a joy to fly a 737 again and I love the shape of the -600. I actually prefer its' look to the -800. It kind of has the old -200 retro vibe about it.

@RJC68 @steve310002  I totally concur with this. for 29 quid in the UK, this is an absolute blast, and is getting me ready for the -800 in any case, as I am sure the systems will be 95% the same.

I think it is a bit of marketing genius by PMDG at that price, as I definitely won't be on the fence about getting the -800 now.

The modelling, sounds, systems, the way it flies so smoothly, and performance in the sim (FPS) are all great.  I am impressed with my purchase at that price.

I notice you have to stay well on the trim at thrust and speed changes, but that is to be expected.
I am looking for a decent autopilot tutorial now, as I have hand-flown all the way up to now - it is a dream to fly, and I can get it down just past the piano keys every time - feels great!

I understand the new autobraking, but I am struggling a bit with reverse thrust.  I have 'toggle reverse thrust' set to a key on my Thrustmaster, but I can't get it to work.  It is working fine on other aircraft I tested in the sim.
Is it something I am doing wrong?  In outside view, I see the reverser doors start to open, then they close again.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

After after you land and press the reverse thrust key, I think you need to increase the throttles to full. When you slow down, press the reverse thrust key again and give the throttles a bump to get them out of reverse.

Thanks MD - I will give that a try next time I am in.

Yep this and difference between TOGGLE and HOLD reverse thrust is exactly that, when you land in TOGGLE mode you just press your assigned key once, in HOLD mode you have to hold the keybind to maintain reversers on.

...for me, it was the excellently depicted use-case, presentation, and humor (linked previously I know) by 737NG Driver that sold me!

(I not so secretly hope that some of that coffee-money goes towards a nicer mic!) 😛

I'm happy with the 700.  But who's going to grab this one?

I don't have any B737 for MSFS yet, but it's correct to assume that in order to have the -600 you must have purchased the -700 already?. There's no mention to it in the PMDG's release notes.

Cheers, Ed

Luckily no. They are standalone releases.

I think I'll buy it. I already have the 700 which gives me good leg range for BBJ flights anywhere in the world and I use the freighter for emulating Fedex flights with a focus in Europe.

But, the 600 is very limited in what real airlines it can be used for and I don't really want to be pinned down to airline schedules anyway. So if I buy the 600 that kind leaves the little guy sitting in the hangar awaiting the scrap yard!! Unless...... I reimagine it perhaps as a 500 flying for some African operator that may or may not have some suspect airfields that need some 'supplies'.  I'll just imagine it has a cargo door.  Hot weather ops in Africa is one simulation. Another idea is that the 600 compares favourably (always  a bit better though) with the 300 in terms of dimensions, power and capacity. If I 'm looking for a bit of adventure (and I am) then I have heard that in real life,  Buffalo have just bought an ex Swift Air 300.  It is a freighter which the 600 is not, but it provides a plausible excuse to experience cold weather ops and get into some some pretty basic out of the way and sometimes frozen airfields in Canada!  All I need is a Buffalo paint scheme for the little guy and I'll be set but failing that it will have to fly around in Janet livery. Here's what was on one of Buffalo's recent YT video's:

So yeah, the -600 is a buy for me. Pity @Steve Dra is not doing anymore -600 liveries 😞.

No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.

Sorry Goose, but it's time to buzz the tower!

Yeah I'm very busy with another project at the moment...and may still have a 600 or 2 in the hangar (way in the back now), but sadly can't take another request at the moment.

What I'd do is request it here: https://flightsim.to/requests/liveries

This part of flightsim.to lets painters get reputation points for painting requests, and keeps them organized, so with the dozen's of painter's out there all wanting to grab "rep points", you get enough friends to say "I want this too" and I bet some great painter picks up your request.

Steve Dra

Thanks Steve, I'll give that a go. I expect you are busy with 800 liveries at the moment so good luck with that and I look forward to seeing some more of your great work. 👍
