I'm more interested in the 13900K, and AMD's next one, whatever that is.  I want IPC and a big L3, and I'll go for whatever gives that to me.

If the 4090 (DLSS 3?) turns out to be a huge advance over my 3080ti then...maybe.   No amount of money is too much for my flight sim setup.  It's my only vice.  (well, not quite heh)

Hell no. That graphics card is an insult to one's wallet and a waste of energy. Skipping (don't need it anyway).

CASE: Fractal Terra Silver CPU: AMD R5 7800X3D 5.0Ghz RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 GPU: nVidia RTX 4070 Ti SUPER · SSDs: Samsung 990 PRO 2TB M.2 PCIe · PNY XLR8 CS3040 2TB M.2 PCIe · VIDEO: LG-32GK650F QHD 32" 144Hz FREE/G-SYNC · MISC: Thrustmaster TCA Airbus Joystick + Throttle Quadrant · MSFS2024 · Windows 11

I will happily spend fiat currency units printed out of thin air in exchange for high performance PC parts. Waiting for the 4090TI and 7950X3D\7800X3D.

My EVGA 2080ti Black Edition,   next to my Asus Strix 3090.   I thought it was big.  The Strix 4090 is 360mm long!   (14.17 inches)

Also. AIB's are getting ridiculous with their redesigns of the 4090.

I've got a 1080 ti.  If I can find a used 3080 ti for less than 400 USD I'll consider not moving up to a 4080 16GB.

I'm sure you'll be able to get that in a month or so when the 4080 releases. Plenty of people will be dumping their cards. I bought a brand-new 3090Ti (EVGA FTW Ultra) for ~$1100 US from an actual store. This was before EVGA announced their departure from the GPU business, but hey, I've never had a GPU fail on me in 20 years so I'll take my chances (and EVGA has said they have kept back some cards for warranty purposes).

Just wait a bit and deals aplenty should be around.

your call man, i had the 1080ti (God rest his soul i loved that card )  this 3080 12 gb did make big difference to me , but i wanted 4k and all the jazz , happy hunting big decision for you my freind

Every time I upgrade my system I use the old parts to upgrade my younger brother and 2 nephews.

I own a 12900K,  and I own a 5800x3d.   Ran the 12900k with DDR4 and DDR5 Z690 boards.

12900k is $449. 99 today at Microcenter.  5800x3d,  $379.99.

The x3d outperforms the 12900k by a substantial margin, it doesn't care if you run word not allowed ddr timings because it won't affect it's performance,  it uses much cheaper motherboards.  It outperforms the 12900k while drawing approximately half  the wattage,  so it's cheaper to operate and heats your room much less.  Also means that it requires a smaller power supply,   leaving more watts for your GPU.    The 12900k was like having a space heater in the room.

If you don't regularly do heavy compile workloads like 3d modelling or photo / video editing,  the x3d is the way to go.

It's not my intent to rain on anyone's parade, but dollar for dollar,  the x3d is the only thing I'd consider.   The 4090 is a perfect match.

I wouldn't touch anything else until AMD drops their 7xxx X3d chips in January,  and maybe see if Intel responds in turn.

I still don't feel a need to upgrade.

MS/Asobo have optimized the sim very well for my outdated but still very powerful 1080ti/8700k.

I no longer purchase nor play any other game titles.

If you are on a single 4k screen the 4090 is going to be wild unnecessary overkill.

Not really. I recently received, as a birthday present, a very nice 120hz LG C1 OLED tv from my amazing wife, which I use soley as a monitor.

As soon as it's available, I'm going to order a brand new PC with a 4090 and a 13900k and maximise my fps to make use of the 120hz screen. With VRR and DLSS 3 it should run as smooth as silk. Hopefully it will last me at least 5 years.

Yes, it's pricey, and I agree, somewhat overpriced, but coming from a build with a GTX1080 and a 6700k that has served me very well these past 7 years, I think I deserve a treat 😀

I upgraded my 7700k system to 5800X3D two weeks ago and the gains are incredible in MSFS. Even my 2070S is producing a decent performance, but running 5120x1440, I want that 4090 and not upgrade for the next several years. I’m pumped.

I totally understand the owners of the 3xxx series GPUs and not being able to justify the spend. We know you still want the 4xxx series, don’t lie to yourselves. 😀
