And the best reason for not buying a 4090...

They are now listed on a local website here and this is the cheapest option (although showing sold out) for $2,823 incl tax !!!!!

Who on earth would want to spend nearly 3K on a GPU

A 13900KS at 6GHz with some really fast DDR5 and a 4090 might be my next build...I have a 1600W EVGA Platinum PSU still sitting new in the box (I picked it up at a deep discount bundled with a GPU some time ago), and I have several monster-sized cases (Coolermaster HAF-X/HAF-932) available, so the 4090's size shouldn't be a problem.

That said, I'm happy to wait and see how the new generation of CPUs and GPUs shakes out in real performance.  My 10900K and 3090 are still rockin' the sim quite well at 4K, so there's no rush.

Is this a FSTLT topic or "Who is buying a 4090" 😉

The two topics are related though, especially when we're talking about 4K and 8K textures on dozens of AI aircraft being displayed.

I know lol

We always get shafted here in Canada for electronic pricing !

Makes my $1,200 3090 seem like a sweet deal 😀

TLOD 300 on a 1080 is pretty high.

1080 Ti - big difference hehe.

TLOD is more CPU dependent in my tests anyway.  I like to not be able to see the harsh line of where objects render.

I suppose that is true. I honestly haven't done much performance testing in game except to find airport specific issues.

I'm finally getting a new system after 7 years.  The supplier for the guy who's building it for me is receiving 200 RTX4090 units next week so getting one should not be a problem.  We'll figure out the manufacturer when he gets the pricing.  The other components are:

2 x SK hynix Platinum 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen4 M.2 SSD
2 x G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB Series 32GB
Samsung 870 QVO 4TB
MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk
Intel Core i9-12900K 5.2 GHz Unlocked
Corsair RMx Series 1000 W Power Supply
Fractal Design Meshify 2
Liquid CPU cooler

Looking forward to getting it all assembled next week.

Hope to be doing the same soon...

I'm also from the N. Hollywood area.

And I thought I am stupid by ordering a car for 90k. Seems there are even worse ways to burn money 🙂

We got a electric clipper about 7 years ago.  Granted, I'm mostly bald lol, it's saved me tons of money.  We also cut my boy's hair with it hehe.

Same here.  A friend of mine uses a "Flowbee".   Combination mini shop-vac and hair clippers in one. 😁

I tried it,  works pretty good.

Why not wait a week and get the 13900K?

Is this a FSTLT topic or "Who is buying a 4090"

are software and addons somehow related to hardware? will FSTLT users perhaps benefit a lot less from a 4090? is a CPU upgrade more efficient? silly questions.

ok back to topic:

Because MS2020 is CPU bound, I plan on upgrading to AMD Ryzen 9 - 7950X as soon as they become available here in Auckland NZ 🙂

It's not CPU bound at 4k with a 3090 and 5800x3d,  it's GPU bound.  Just for sake of reference.

I drive my 3x1080P screens because that's all the 1080Ti can handle. They really are 4K 65" screens. Hopefully the 4090 will be able to drive them all at 4K at a reasonable frame rate, or frontal at 4K and side at 1080P.
