I learned nothing in this world is forever. I decided to use what I have now as much as possible, and this is actually darn good, even more if I see it from a perspective coming from FS4. I doubt MS will abandon MSFS within the next few years, and given I'm 70 right now it's a good question if the EOL of MSFS or the EOL of @pmb will come earlier. Until then they can just regularly change the product. This will make changes to add-ons necessary and enter Random Addon V2, which has to be bought again. My slightly pessimistic two cents. Your slightly realistic two cents! For a product stated up front as a 10 year project, once very complete and stable, I think monthly subscription is a giant no-brainer. I believe they designed the architecture to grapple with steadily improving hardware, including Xbox, and to accomodate this we will see streamed satellite imagery improve as it will over time, w/o the need for a major rewrite. Same same for the clouds and weather system. Right now it's tuned to what a range of hardware can manage but that changes over time and as we move on we will see cloud detail/complexity improve as hardware permits. They don't need a new version because they have built-in accommodation of improving hardware capabilities over the next....8 years. I think this is the basis for Jorg's sheepish smile: he knows a little more than anyone here does about their inner planning and projections for MSFS' future. Just checked to see if there were any Best Buy related offers on any of my credit cards, found that Amex has one offer. "Get 1 membership reward point per dollar spent". I try to route my monthly bills through my Amex card and I always pay it off before the end of the month so no interest ever accrues, but I still get the reward points. Amex lets you apply those points toward purchases you make, so last month I got a free PMDG 737 out of my efforts. 😁 A 4090 should give a nice stack of points to spend. From Guru3D: Quote The pièce de résistance then ...we received a press build supporting DLSS3 and DLSS Frame generation of Microsoft Flight Simulator. The last time I tried this game I was hovering at 35~44 FPS in Ultra HD with an RTX 3090. The raw shader performance of the GeForce RTX 4090 pushes this to 64 FPS. But then the real magic; below we have also added a video have a peek. The results are outstanding. We're flying around in Ultra HD at 125~150 FPS effortlessly, the scenery is stunning with ultra-quality settings. All resolutions show the same framerates, meaning there's a huge bottleneck somewhere. Still, you cannot complain; that's over 2x performance with the flick of a switch. They did their testing with a Ryzen 9 5950X. They compared TAA vs DLSS3 in UHD (3840 x 2160) and the results are quite impressive: In terms of power consumption, they mention ~425 Watts for the founders edition (average). They mention both this (especially in the light of high electricity costs) and the overall price as drawbacks. And there's also the size: it might require a case upgrade. Another thing to keep in mind is this: Quote First off, let me state all AIBs will deliver a power adapter cable, these however require 4x 8-pin power connectors headed from your PSU. Now, we tested this, but if for whatever miracle reason your PSU would only have 3x 8-pin headers, that'll work ... however, your TGP is then locked at defaults, ~425 Watts so you can't overclock. Quote Connecting the fourth connector will offer maximum power from your product and opens up tweaking ability on the power limiter. Any (proper) 850W PSU with enough 8-pin headers will work fine if you don't do crazy things with TBP. Most cards will offer you roughly 500 Watts on the power limiter max. I would not 3ant to go higher either for two reasons, the performance versus efficiency is really bad with such a high TGP. Secondly, the fuses of your PSU might not like it 😞 We however assume that if you purchase a 1599 USD graphics card you'll pair it with a proper power supply. In their conclusion they write this: Quote So for this graphics card to make any sense, you must play games in Ultra HD or at the very least start at a monitor resolution of 2560x1440. Quote Take Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 combined with DLSS 3.0, you can fly at 100+ FPS in the highest resolutions now. Quote Should you buy this product? Well, from a more economical point of view, you would be better off with a to-be-released GeForce RTX 4070 or 4080. This can even be considered a colossal waste of money, but it's also a colossal product for your ownership and gaming experience. One central question remains; is the 4090 an attractive enough card for the general public? You'll be able to find one in retail in the south of the $1700 range if you go for an AIB card. In the end, the product impresses big time and will satisfy you for the years to come, but at significant cost and energy consumption. ... 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

October 12, 20223 yr Man, Asus must have fell and bumped their head. The STRIX is $200 more than the closest card, and the closest card is watercooled while the strix is aircooled. I usually buy Asus, but they can take a long walk on a short pier.
