October 9, 20223 yr when they launched MSFS back in 2020, they said they were in here for the next 10 years, and considering the enormous success they had/have I don't see why they would quit MSFS next year. with x-plane I don't know ... Naivety showing with this comment. Microsoft pull things all the time regardless of their success. A bit like Netflix half finished shows that are abandoned. Xplane has been around for decades and isn’t going anywhere soon. If I were a betting man, I’d stick my money on xplane still being around in ten years rather that msfs.

Before MSFS was launched everyone was saying at last a flight sim that will not need an expensive high end gaming PC to run it, and tons of addons, Just need a basic PC. And we now have threads about a GPU that cost more than a PC before MSFS was launched. PC hardware manufactures love it they now know whatever the price some will pay 2000+ 30 Series going out of stock. Edited October 9, 20223 yr by G-RFRY Raymond Fry.

And companies essentially based around a single individual have all sorts of continuity risks and unpredictable outcomes which larger organizations do not. The bottom line is that all three major simulators are at risk of cancellation if their underlying financials are poor. Only one suffers from the additional risks around key contributors and low capitalization. Cheers Luke Kolin I make simFDR, the most advanced flight data recorder for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane.

As @rka states, this still has been true for me, too. I get smooth 30-40 fps with pretty (too) high settings, only down to the high twenties in very demanding scenarios. All this with a 3440x1440 screen. And look at my system which is certainly no longer state of the art. All this was true until the day I bought my VR googles (Reverb 1). They were a complete game changer, to the better for immersion, but to the worse for performance. I am glad when I can keep 20 fps in KSFO and similar now, but I just can't let them go anymore. It's only VR driving me into buying a new system right now. October 10, 20223 yr Will MS keep pumping money into MSFS forever unlikely, FS like Windows had an annual injection of funds from the customer as each version is launched, and with windows it still does after saying W10 will be absolutely the last version of Windows THEY LIED, 10 billion invested in windows Mobil nearly 8 billion buying Nokia Scraped a few years later a 10billion right off. They run a store in the product. This will generate money for them as long as the product is attractive. No need for a new version each year. No pumping money into the product. True up to a point when all the world is done and updated the sim is complete then only addons will generate income, Just like other sims that we have we have purchased most of what we want sales will drop off, why because flight sim is still a niche product, this why top game studios can spend millions on the latest games they get income from a new version that makes use of the latest hardware. when they get sales over 100 million copies, they can do that. What we're seeing here is the introduction of gaming as a service. The next iteration will be billed monthly IMHO. Until then they can just regularly change the product. This will make changes to add-ons necessary and enter Random Addon V2, which has to be bought again. My slightly pessimistic two cents.
