sorry but I have ptsd from xenviro in XP. no thanks. they delivered like 20% of what they promised on the timeline they provided.

Precisely. And contradicted themselves all the way through. No thanks.

Since the API is not expansive enough it's hard to see how anyone can produce more accurate weather than MS themselves.

And Magnus is an absolute child. I was an alpha tester for xEnviro in its very early stages, my name is still on the website. I was on the Discord, when someone posted some incoherent nonsensical anti-xEnviro rant and I reacted to it... i.e posted one of those emoji reactions underneath that post you do on Discord, some confused smiley. So Magnus kicked me from the Discord and refused to talk to me. That is how they like to run things.

xEnviro in MSFS? Now that I was not expecting.

There are going to be more XP developers coming out with products in MSFS.  Add Airfoilabs and XEnviro to the list of XP developers that are now coming out with MSFS products.

I feel a bit uneasy about all this stuff.

I had Prepar3d with AS, REX, Envtex, PTA, UT2, FFTF etc. etc. I recall 30 pages threads with contradicting recipes how to marry AS, REX, and Envtex alone.

Upon release of MSFS, I was in good hope to get rid of all this global addon zoo and have an all-inclusive simulator where we can just go flying instead of tweaking. MS even supported this hope by promising they would deliver most of this pretty *soon* and keeping access to their interfaces tight.

Unfortunately, this was a pipe dream. While MSFS improved - sometimes with a zigzag strategy - they didn't deliver in several respects, only to recall those white-yellow/red airlines still with us, missing historic weather, and poor ATC. Some clever people hacked into their interfaces as they did before producing addons which will have to be updated with every SU (at least). If you take part in all the betas (I do) there is rarely a time where you can use REX Weather Force.

I am sure AS-MSFS is lurking around the corner, Envtex will look for its slice of the cake as well. Maybe FFTF for MSFS can fit the call for a dynamic LOD-adapter some people are uttering already.

Goodbye flying, welcome tweaking hell again.

Kind regards, Michael

I bought it for 70 euro's for xp11 years ago. It never worked for one minute with my vr headset although they promised working on it. The update timeliness took ages.

It looked pretty cool in xp however. It ate fps for breakfast to be honest. It was not bad but it was one of the most expensive pieces of software I ever bought and I only used it for a couple of hours because I only fly vr.

Let's see if they can deliver for msfs.

For me, the only interesting feature is "historical weather",

Bummer, right now that I settled for XP12 😕

This is the issue with 3rd party add-ons versus if the feature is implemented natively in the simulator.  3rd party add-ons almost always tank the FPS.  For that reason, I hope the MSFS team keeps prioritizing live weather and making it better in MSFS.  It will ultimately yield better FPS than if we have to use a 3rd party add-on.

@pmb

You are absolutely right. I've been tweaking for at least 15 years and just when I had it all figured out....there was VR and tweaking land opened its gates again. I must have been tinkering with settings, shaders, downloads, textures, overclocking and what not for at least half the time I was in my mancave..

Msfs gave me a lot of internal peace because at least it looked great out of the box and I didn't have to gather all ground textures myself

Same here.

And since their weather data only start at October 16th 2022 I will look at it again in one year. There is still hope Asobo include historical weather themselves until then.

The less global addons needed the better.

I wouldn't class a weather addon as "tweaking" as such as most of the time (well it was in P3D) you just installed, ran it and if you wanted live weather it pretty much worked without much hassle.

Now in MSFS there is still a locked down weather system so REX and this are going to have the same sort of limitations as each other I would expect. I'm not really sure if its worth the money at the end of the day.

Let's hope REX is thinking of incorporating historical weather into WF.

That's all what I recall from my experience in XP11. I finally got rid of it because of the performance hit.
