October 23, 20223 yr My take is that MSFS weather looks a whole lot nicer and is sort of accurate. Xinviro is a lot more accurate and looks just ok. I would rather be entertained with the movie Tombstone than a realistic look at the OK corral battle between the poor rural Democrat Dixie cowboy faction, and the middle class Republican Yankee townsfolk Earp faction. I like MSFS weather a lot better. It's sort of accurate and looks grand! 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. October 23, 20223 yr Nothing in their promo video to justify buying (again) for me. Also, as with others, I’d prefer not to have to deal with Magnus’ prickly customer service manner. i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea

The first video linked in this thread, he reads the metar and looks at what MSFS produces and said way too much dark and dense clouds. Then he loads the same with xEnviro and praises it's accuracy and says it matches the METAR even if the clouds are sparse and not all that impressive. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. I don't know what video you are talking about, but if it is the Q8Pilot's stream video, you better watch it by yourself and make your own conclusions. Also, if you can, watch the Virtavia stream on YouTube. On both streams I watched the comparisons for 7 or 8 airports and I believe not even one had correct weather with xEnviro. Where there should be rain it had no rain, where it should be snowing there was no snow, where visibility was 9999 it had visibility zero, where clouds were broken it had overcast and so on. If that is being accurate... October 24, 20223 yr If it’s using METAR as the source then it cannot be better than MSFS weather no matter how imperfect that one is. Time when a weather simulation is judged by how closely it fits METAR has passed.
October 24, 20223 yr Author The developer had posted on FB that the revenue from sales in XP11 had dried up, and released this port over of Xenviro to generate cash. Read what you may into this. October 24, 20223 yr When we were all in P3D land, I wished XEnviro was a P3D addon. But, to be honest, looking at the comparison pics between MSFS and XE, I much prefer the MSFS look - and I don't think MSFS does a bad job of real weather either. Edited October 24, 20223 yr by ErichB

Unfortunately, it seems that XEnviro's Facebook page is for members only and it's private, so I can't see any of their postings. It would be nice to read exactly what they wrote about this though. Synthesizing weather from METAR reports is old tech, MSFS has taken the revolutionary approach to generate Live Weather based on a forecast model, thus creating a living, breathing weather environ.... Wait! Wasn't there a Sim Update 7 roughly one year ago introducing weather synthesis based on METAR reports by user demand, thus creating cumuliform clouds everywhere, sacrificing stratiform and overcast layers in the ongoing attempts to plausibly "blend" those synthesized data into their Live weather simulation, giving us sudden transitions and disrupting the plausibilty of Live weather ever since? Must have dreamt that one, because why would they if there are several third parties like this one who have done so for a long time and have proven that this approach is not trivial and comes at the cost of a ton of compromises? October 24, 20223 yr So, what the developer is basically saying: My first priority continues to be Xplane, but I'll make a quick detour to MSFS in order to vacuum up some cash. Nice! Definitely appreciated.😬

Thanks for posting XEnviro's Facebook post! If XEnviro is developing for XP 12, that's a weird decision because XP 12 doesn't seem to be doing so well according to the latest SteamDB charts: (assuming more XP users buy XP 12 from the LR website, what's important above is the comparison of the peak XP 12 users relative to XP 11 users in Steam). As for developing for XP 11, well, that's kind of a dead end because over time, users will gradually leave XP 11. I think XEnviro needs to think up other products for MSFS, but perhaps not a weather related product since Asobo has no plans to expand the weather SDK for MSFS. Just an FYI if you didn't know: A lot of X-Plane users do not buy it from steam due to slow updates.
