Some products are regressing with each update

Featured Replies

Anyone notice some add-ons are actually getting worse with each new updated compared to what was originally released?  Two examples stand out to me:

1.  Fenix A320 - Version 1.0.2.104 had great sounds a nice flight model and overall was a great product.  With each subsequent update the sounds were reworked for the XBOX gamers among us. Now when in the cockpit it sounds like you're sitting right over the engines as if you're in the cabin.  Actually, moving to the cabin still sounds right compared to what you hear in the cockpit.  The latest update brighten the cockpit to accommodate some among us who feel cockpits are too dark now.  For those of us that don't share this view it looks washed out now.  These are just two examples, but the list goes on with this product.  Honorable mention would be the flight model that took the product back instead of forward when it comes to flares upon landing.  There were some nice advances along the way but overall, what was released originally was better.

2. FSRealistic - This product was great up until v2.0.4.  Subsequent release changed the sounds where they don't stand out or toned down to a point the additional effect this product was trying to achieve is no longer there.  I know sounds can be subjective but again I feel for those that don't have the early installs of this product.  I had to do a reinstall tonight after trying the latest release.

I know there's other products people may be aware of that suffer the same scenorio. It seems unfortunately we need to hold on to our old installers if a sweet spot was had with that version.  The problem with that is over time those old versions could have compatibility issues with newer updates to MSFS.  Sometimes you wish developers could leave well enough alone and/or know when they hit that sweet spot and just update the product as needed.  As of now just because there's a new update doesn't mean it's a better version.  Caution is needed and a roll back may be in order.  I'm seeing this more so now than ever before with our add-ons.  I'm interested to hear other's thoughts on other products we have in the community.

Probably a slightly hot take but I'm in general agreement with the Fenix plane. I can't really fly it anymore due to constant CTDs. Never had that issue with the first couple versions. Landing is still not right either (when I'm lucky enough to get that far without CTD), as you mentioned.

On the contrary, the PMDG 737 has aged like fine wine.

I have had the opposite experience with the Fenix A320. I feel it has gotten better and better and I have done a ton of flights with it and all the new upgrade stuff is working really well for me.

Nope. MSFS was never before so good as it is by now.

I want to add: Some people seems to search for reasons to complain. Maybe they are bored. I dont know.

As for the Fenix, for me at least, it has been getting better and better. It was good from day one, but suffered worse performance than anything else. Now, performance is stellar, and I find myself flying it almost exclusively.

(Granted, that is to a significant extent because the Airbus stick and throttle takes up *way* less space than the honeycomb alpha/bravo... 😉 )

Don't own the Fenix so I can't really give an opinion.

FS Realistic has been getting better and better with each update.

I will second the PMDG 737. It's great since release and I still love it.

PMDG worsened a bit in the last update especially regarding autopilot and autothrottle behaviour, but I think they are aware and hopefully a fix is coming soon.

Don’t have the Fenix myself so I’ll have to await the opinion of all those masses of Xbox gamers who are flying it🙃
