February 26, 20233 yr I have a 300mbps connection and can still get blocky photogrammetry sometimes. I expect in that case it’s more a server issue or maybe congestion with my ISP. BTW, if you’ve ever wondered how much bandwidth the sim is using, @Lorby_SI has a really handy tool for that: https://www.lorby-si.com/downloads.html Yet another case where I go ”I wish someone made a tool for xyz” only to find out that Lorby already has 🙂 Dave Current System (Running at 4k): ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F, Ryzen 7800X3D, RTX 5090, 55" Samsung Q80T, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, EVGA CLC 280mm AIO Cooler, Brunner CLS-E NG Yoke, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS & Stick, Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant & Add-on, VirtualFly Ruddo+, TQ6+ and Yoko+, GoFlight MCP-PRO and EFIS, Skalarki FCU and MCDU

The logistics seem to be that the textures don't work on steep slopes, not least because the imagery is not there. Satellite and even aerial photography is (obviously) taken from above and the image of a steep slope will inevitably be shorter than the slope itself is high. In the past, for POIs, the problem has been solved by making models of the steep slopes and then texturing the models. This was done, for example, by Frank Dainese, for Orbx Monument Valley. Another area I had hoped the AI would have sorted out... i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea
February 27, 20233 yr Quote Orbx Administrators 549 Location: Melbourne, Australia Posted Friday at 01:45 AM With the release of our NZ Mesh product a couple of years ago, customers have been enjoying the improved DEM and our approach to custom terrain meshes. As we know, the New Zealand World Update uses the same LINZ source data as we did for our NZ Mesh product, with about a third of the country being covered with 1m LiDAR data, and the remainder with about 10m resolution. Our package is pre-compiled at 10m while the New Zealand update version gets streamed at up to the full resolution of the source. This means that the sim will load and cycle through three additional levels of detail near the user aircraft, which can cause visible ground changes. In addition, we use different algorithms for generating the embedded LOD levels, which usually helps with retaining terrain shapes at mid to far distances. With that in mind, we are temporarily removing NZ Mesh from sale on OrbxDirect and the Microsoft Marketplace. Customers who already have purchased the scenery will still be able to access the product to install/reinstall. Once the NZ World Update is released, we welcome feedback from existing users on their NZ Mesh experience with the update. As it's a sizeable area to assess for pros and cons, this will be valuable to us and help us determine future plans for NZ Mesh.
February 27, 20233 yr Hoping someone could verify a glitch for me please. I've been flying around Canterbury NZ for a while, and in the last few days (coinciding with WU12), some windsocks have reversed. The issue exists with or without WU12 (NZ) being installed. Only at smaller aerodromes. Can some kind members please check NZWL and NZRT and let me know if windsocks there look correct, or are 180 deg out of sync. I'm trying to establish if this is an issue with my setup or global. NB, i do not have any overlays or custom content relating to these aerodromes. As far as I am aware, they are just stock. Any assistance appreciated. Thanks, Mark.

Now... some updates through the game, some through the store first (MS Store version that is), sometimes the Xbox thingy requires an update before you can update the rest, sometimes it's in the market place, sometimes it in the content manager. Where still talking about the basic game here not 3th party content. PS: Wait until you get a bit older and fog is starting to crawl into the memory part of your brain, you'll understand by then. and that is why i wrote it down on paper, easy..that fog is no excuse.

Helps that this country is naturally stunning, but that makes the effort and visualisation in this WU even more special as the areas I've seen they've nailed it so to get is as close to reality is top work. Looking forward to many more flights around this country in the coming weeks, grabbed updated freeware airports as well so I'm good to go. Yes, I am thinking of going all in on New Zealand now and grabbing all available good freeware, and good payware where I can (NZA etc.). It will be my most complete country, as I already have quite a bit. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio. February 28, 20233 yr What I liked about ORBX is when they release Mesh mods they have a map showing the entire region covered, MSFS did do something similar IIRC with the first USA world update. What I'd like to see with this NZ WU is a similar map showing both the 10m DEM and 1m DEM areas, if anyone sees one please shout, thanks. February 28, 20233 yr There is one element that they keep on missing in the World Updates: Trees. They just leave it to the default AI parameters which still results in trees growing where there are none in reality. Like Above 1800 meters in Mountains for example. Some kind soul did fix this all manually on his own for Switzerland, but I do question why ASOBO can't do that with each region they touch up for a world update. In Germany I still see trees growing out of mowed fields, where there should not be any. During my decent into Queensland as I was flying over the snowcapped southern alps I saw many ridges, way above 3000 meters where the AI still drew trees. Why can't they either teach the AI to take height into account or fix all this by hand? Edited February 28, 20233 yr by Farlis
