After some initial setup teething problems, very happy with Tobii after being a TrackIR user for many years. Although I have the eye tracking off, as it interferes too much with the head tracking.

I used TrackIR 5 for a few years, then switched to a Delanclip Pro which I used until I went exclusively VR. I liked the Delanclip better - it was more sensitive to the track points while being less sensitive to things like the reflection of the monitor on my glasses. And it was cheaper, and used LEDs instead of silver balls, which is probably why it was so much less prone to tracking false motion.  Very good product.

My head tracker is my VR headset.  Don't fly 2D anymore, but when I did, I used the Track IR 5.

Used trackIR for about 13 years. Switch to Tobii a month ago. I like both. Tobii is the better product as you don't need the clip.

Got the TIR in 2005 still going strong, that little clip has been through hell including falling off my cap and out of a 4 storey window into a garden at night in the rain.

Using the thumb switch of my warthog  joystick which puts me in the ‘none’ category I suppose 😁.

I understand the angular rotation is not in a 1:1 ratio but I have always wondered how it feels like to rotate the physical head, say of 45° to the left, to bring your virtual head to a 120° left rotation, having your eyeballs all the way to the right corner to still grasp a clear view of your screen.

Maybe because I have a not so good eyesight. Too  cautious ? I may try the Tobii gizmo though with Amazon return policy.

Yep, there's no better option than trying it to validate or not if it matches your own usage and setup. It's not a one solution fits all.

Still using my trusty delanclip. Happy I bought it back then.

It's not as bad as you think and you can set your own response curves, for the moment i run quite aggressive curves on my TIR 4 which makes me turn my head only a few degrees to look around.
And once you get used to it, either set up aggressive or not, no way you go back to your thumb switch.

I wanted to put some input on this as I have tried all of the major methods over the last 5 years.

Track IR: Very good, nothing wrong with it. Its fully customizable but its only downside is having to wear something for it to be tracked. Most people would be fine with this but I just hate wearing things on my head (even headphones)

Smooth Track: This one uses your phone camera. Amazing head tracking but often needs reset to find your head position. Also unless not easy to mount and unless you have a backup you have to use your phone.

Facetrack No IR: Completely free and while it works its not very good Constantly gets off track or stuck

Tobi: Im using the latest version. In my opinion, there is no better head tracking on the market. It tracks your head and eyes and is just amazing in how it works. Never gets off track and you don't have to wear anything. Only downside is the height of your monitor. It has to be mounted to the bottom of your monitor so depending on what equipment you use for flight sim it may block the tracking if your monitor is super low.

I would really like to switch to Tobii, but several reports that your eyes get tired due to the IR submitter let me hesitate so far...

Greetings, Chris

"Eyes get tired" means that it's annoying or it's a physical condition? Personally, the only drawback is that the Tobii sensor disturbs my other laptop webcam 😉 with the IR signal. As @Victors Valliant mentioned, the sensor had to be at the bottom of my screen (compared to the TrackIR sensor positionned on top of the display), and I use it fairly low on my desk.

In addition of being my favorite head tracker after decade of TrackIR, the Tobii solution is also perfect for me for unlocking my Windows session without typing a password or code (thanks to Windows Hello).

There are reports from certain users that they «feel» the IR signal much more than with trackiR for example. And I have no need to hamper my eyesight in a longterm scale just because of an eyetracker. this gets too litlle attention imho. On the other hand, I would not be using it for hours each day...

I have, and use, both (but not concurrently). In X-Plane 12, I mainly use Tobii since the integration for XP allows me to pause the head tracking when I'm looking at some specific panel. Unfortunately, in MSFS, when you pause the head tracking, your view returns to the forward view which is annoying. So I tend to use my TrackIR in MSFS instead.

I often pause TrackIR using a mapped side button on my mouse. Never has my view reset to centre on pause. Used to be a setting on Chaseplane years ago to toggle this in P3D but not seen such an option on MSFS. Do you have an addon camera app like FS Realistic causing the TIR reset?
